I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.
My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.
I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the
students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.
I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.
My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.
*** Lesson Details *** I offer half hour, forty-five minute, sixty minute lessons, or longer on a weekly basis, but I do Not offer bi-weekly lessons. My lessons begin with the fundamentals of music. I believe a firm foundation in rhythm and reading is important because a student may switch musical instruments one day and the basics are universal and necessary. I have a deep love and appreciation for music which I hope to instill in my students as well. I am strict in the sense that I like students to polish their pieces before moving on. I like to keep them focused on playing well, not just playing.
A typical lesson will begin with scales to warm up, a review of the previous week's material, and a new assignment. Students will memorize pieces, be proficient in scales and rhythms, and all the while laughing and having a great time. I am known with my students for my creative analogies and flexibility to try new things in order to adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.
I primarily use the Suzuki method for Violin and Viola, because it offers progressive steps to mastering technique, style, and musicality. My curriculum includes the use of Winning Rhythms, Wohlfahrt studies, All for Strings Theory, Essentials for Strings, and many more beginner and advanced studies; including shifting and double stops.

Shannon has been a faculty member at various colleges,and is currently Adjunct Professor of Music at Jessup University and Brazosport College, and also has an active private studio, Leigh Studios. She is the College Music Society South-Central Regional President; and is an Advisory Board member for the Houston Flute Club.
Shannon received her Masters of Music degree in Performance from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She also studied at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and received her B.A. degree in Performance, and B.S. degree in Music-Business from Winona State University, and has studied with world-renowned instructors.
Shannon has received grants for her work, from the Minnesota State Arts Board, American Federation of Musicians, Rome Festival Orchestra, and the Winona Music Guild, and was the 1997 recipient of the Vivian Menees Nelson Music Award.
Shannon is also a sponsored triathlete and trainer/coach/race director, and gives workshops on the importance of healthy living, nutrition and exercise for musicians. She is a board member for The Lake Charles Triathletes. And she is a strong advocate for music, health, and triathlon. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :) I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. This is also determined by your dedication to daily practice (the more you practice, the quicker you will progress & the more accomplished you will become). In my lessons, my primary focus is helping students learn cello at their own pace, and developing their love and appreciation for music! Cello can be challenging, but anyone can learn with the right guidance! I have a conservatory training, and years of experience teaching people of all ages how to play. I am a multi-instrumentalist from Queens, NYC, and I was the cellist/guitarist for the first national tour of the hit broadway show "Waitress".
I trained as a classical cellist at the Aaron Copland School of Music, and I am a lifelong guitarist. Before starting my broadway career, I worked as a freelance cellist, playing with numerous orchestras around NYC, in addition to teaching many students in the Queens/Nassau County area.
I also performed in a 30 city national tour the with the Post-Rock band "You Bred Raptors?". As a guitarist, I was sitting in with a professional band by the time I was just 14, and would later to go to play many clubs around NYC, such as the Bitter End and Bowery Electric, with my own projects.

Nick is really the best instructor ever! He is very knowledgeable about different styles and techniques, but he tailors each lesson so that the student is learning on their own terms - not pushing a methodology or using cookie cutter plans. He is very patient and kind and will work with you at your own pace, whether you are a beginner or want to learn on a more professional level. He plays a ton of different instruments and has experience touring with bands as well as classical training. He's really a one-stop-shop for all your musical needs! Hire him! He's made my life a lot better by teaching me his ways.

I am a performer and teacher, specializing in cello and English as a Second Language. I graduated with a bachelor and master degree in music performance (cello) from Ball State University (Indiana). While a student, I had a multitude of teaching experiences ranging from music theory, music history, ear training, and English as a Second Language.
For the past three years, I have taught beginning/intermediate cello students. My teaching experiences began at a non-profit community music camp, Music for the Sake of Music, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. During this experience, I found a passion for teaching beginning students because of the fundamental need to provide a solid foundation. These early teaching experiences also inspired my teaching philosophy. Students can expect to focus on technique while simultaneously working on challenging and
exciting repertoire. Although there is an emphasis on strong fundamentals, I strive to demonstrate the fun and beneficial qualities of studying music. Music should not be a chore but rather a source of creativity and enjoyment.
I am open to teaching students of all ages and levels, although the majority of my experience is in beginning and intermediate levels. I've studied the cello for 14 years. I have experience in tutoring music theory, sight-ear (ear training), and music history. Also, I have been certified through the National College Learning Center Association, completing training that emphasizes engagement of students. Through this training I've learned how to help students learn independently and overcome challenges through trial and error. In music, these skills foster efficient practice techniques that often lead to a quickly developed technique.
During my studies, I was also a classroom instructor of ESL. I taught academic English to university students with various proficiency levels. In these classes, I taught between 2-15 students. This experince strengthened my classroom management but also taught me how to prepare lesson plans catering to individual students. I have received a graduate level certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and in doing so I have studied materials development, classroom assessment/creating assessments, and methodologies for teaching English as a second language. Lastly, I have tutored individuals in ESL, working closely to improve listening, speaking, and vocabulary.
As a performer, I have played in many regional orchestras throughout Indiana such as the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and Kokomo Symphony Orchestra. I also have experience performing outside of a classical setting, especially in recording. In previous years I have recorded on pop albums for independent artists and composers. My most notable experience includes recording with Tony Award winning actress and singer, Sutton Foster on her newest album Take Me to the World.

DC-based cellist Pecos Singer was the winner of the 2016 Baroque Concerto Competition at the San Francisco Conservatory and has performed on baroque and modern instruments across the US, the Czech Republic, Italy and Austria. Pecos has recorded for the Naxos label as a Fellow at the National Orchestral Institute and collaborated with the SFCM Baroque Ensemble in a recording project with contemporary composer Mason Bates for the world premier of Auditorium with the San Francisco Symphony. A finalist in the Coeur d'Alene National Young Artists Competition, Pecos plays on a 1921 cello made by Giovanni Cutugno, generously on loan from the Carlsen Cello Foundation.

I originally learned how to play the cello on my own in my school's orchestra. When I went to college and decided to bring my cello with me, I knew it was time to take proper lessons like everyone else. Brenda was able to help me iron out all of the bad habits I had developed over seven years of playing cello with no formal corrections. She clearly cared about me and my interests as a student. Christopher began playing the cello at the age of nine. Born in Chicago, he studied with Timothy Archbold, former assistant principal of the Peoria Symphony. In the fall of 2012, Christopher went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance at the Boston Conservatory, where he studied with Andrew Mark. During his undergrad, he was a founding member of the Dracard Quartet, who became the honors ensemble for the Boston Conservatory for the 2015-2016 academic year. They were awarded the first prize in the Senior Chamber Music division of the Massachusetts American String Teacher Association String Competition as well as performing in the Museum of Fine Arts’ Sound Bite Series in Boston. Christopher has also performed in masterclasses with Colin Carr, Levon Chilingarian, Joseph Silverstein, Rhonda Rider, and Tony Arnold. While in Boston he had the opportunity to sit principal cello with the MIT Chamber Choir and Orchestra in the fall of 2015. In addition, Christopher has performed in principal and assistant principal roles with the Boston Conservatory’s Baroque Ensemble, Opera Orchestra, Sinfonietta and Symphonic Orchestra. After graduating from the Boston Conservatory, he moved back to the Chicagoland area to be closer to family, and to pursue freelance opportunities. Christopher’s goal is to build a studio in the coming years, teaching all ages and levels. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys reading, cooking, walking his dogs, playing videogames, and visiting with friends and family.
