My experience as a performer and teacher spans over 25 years of every musical style. I believe in creating an environment that is focused on playing music well and where the student can have fun while gaining confidence. It is important to develop functional musicians with good technique, reading, time, and listening skills. We can cover all styles of music from early music to rock/pop, including jazz, classical (including orchestral), and other percussion as desired.
About Mariano
My experience as a performer and teacher ranges from early music to today's rock and pop, including various percussion instruments from around the world. When studying for my bachelors and masters degrees in music, I did course work in music recording, jazz studies, and music history. In addition,

I pretty much teach all common areas of percussion. These include timpani, drum set, marching percussion, mallet percussion, concert percussion, and some world percussion.

Alex was born May 31, 1987. Since both of his parents were band directors, he grew up in a very musically inclined family. When he was 15 years old, during his freshman year of high school, he started studying percussion. A year later he began studying under Chad Kohler and continued to do so until

I am thrilled to hear that you or your kid is ready to start taking drum lessons! I have been teaching drum set and percussion for ten years, and last year finished my master's in percussion performance at CU, after a music education degree in Michigan.
I start my students off with "repeat after me" style exercises, to develop technique, coordination, and musical tone on the instruments. Then, we can dig into playing the music (s)he loves! I'm always curious to hear if there is a certain band or drummer my student admires.
About Stephen
Hey drummers! I am a working drummer and percussionist in all major styles, from blues, funk, and jazz to classical and marching band. In my off time, I enjoy playing in the mountains with my girlfriend and our cat.

This is a play-by-ear approach. Virtually all pop music bands, regardless of genre, have for the past 65 years used drumming that is played by ear. This means, without the use of written music. Few venues today require drumming to written "drum" music charts.
We will examine drumming styles and approaches in basic rock-n-roll and learn to play along and perform similarly. This will also include the development of an ear for style, technique & method, and skills necessary to execute a full pop music performance. Student should have access to at least a basic drum set.

My 6 year old is well... a 6 year old but Dr. J is so patient with her and has already taught her so many new skills in just a few short lessons. He keeps the lessons fun but is able to refocus her on her lessons. Dr. J is an overall amazing musician that is very skilled in a variety of musical techniques. He is also very professional and extremely reliable (even in inclement weather). I would recommend Dr. J to any family that is wanting their child to learn how to play music.

Johnny is an awesome teacher. Instructive. Quick to find what you need to focus on. Patient. Insightful. Funny. Just what you need if your time is precious, but you can get in front of webcam for a few hours a week. He's helped me get those tones right and given me the confidence to grow. Really, really importantly he's always there for questions and support outside of the lessons."

Always challenging and keeps me informed about stuff that I need to know. Always relates things to other areas of percussion. Is really funny and nice. Always keeps me interested in what is going on during the lesson."
