The student must be self-motivated and consistent about his lessons by, self-motivated, I mean, that if it's a child, he should be learning because he wants to learn (not his parents, etc.} There is no one answer to this question (what can students expect from my lessons) because that would depend on the students interests. Ive studied clasical. pop. rock, classic rock, jazz and improvisation. If, for example, the student is an adult who is taking lessons because it's something he wanted to do all of his life, he'll pick a song that he likes and we can start working on it right away. If necessary, I'll transpose it to an easier key, but he won't leave my studio without knowing exactly what he needs to practice until his next lesson. I tell students (especially parents) not to push practicing. If the student isn't practicing at home, he has lost motivation. He can stop and come back when he wants to learn. I consider it m job to keep the student motivated by suppling what they ...
I have been teaching piano for almost 40 years. I have a NY state music teachers license, a masters in music therapy from NYU, and a bachelors in Music Education and AFFA certification. I try to keep the student self-motivated by using music that the student likes, as well as covering the basics. I use props which can be internalized by the student and gradually removed. For example, using stick-on letter names for the notes for a beginner and then removing them one at a time when the student feels ready. I am friendly and very easy going; I'm not a disciplinarian. If a student doesn't practice for some reason, we practice together at the next lesson. If a student doesn't want to practice at all, I can be very creative in motivating them. I don't believe in parents forcing their children to practice, because this tends to turn the child
off. Even though I tell parents that if your child doesn't want to play, please don't force it; I tend to keep students for many years (maybe it's because the student's self-motivation is so important to me and to their success). I also have a lot of experience teaching handicapped individuals as a certified music therapist. The music therapy has enabled me to be a better teacher in general because the therapeutic aspect comes up in all lessons, in one way or another. Music educators focus on the educational goals of music, while music therapists focus more on the therapeutic goals . A therapeutic goal might be increasing concentration span or self-confidence. These issues often need to be addressed in all lessons, and can only help the learning process.
*** Lesson Details *** I am a very easy-going teacher and aim to motivate you. As a music therapist, I have much experience in making each lesson a positive learning experience for you. Most of my professional experience is in teaching piano. Music intrigued me as a child because I saw learning to play as a great challenge. Because learning to play an instrument can be overwhelming to a student, I have learned through years of teaching to make it understandable - to break it down into steps that will leave you feeling a sense of accomplishment and thinking "I can do this". I prefer to teach piano lessons, all styles and levels, music theory, music therapy and beginning guitar. I also teach beginner vocal lessons, and lessons in how to keep the beat I must add that I have a busy schedule and if a student needs to cancel or reschedule a lesson, I need them to let me know at least 24 hours in advance, or the student will be charged for the lesson. I'm an animal lover and rescued a homeless cat who lives at the studio. I keep the studio very clean, but if you're allergic to cats, you may want to consider another teacher. Thank you
*** Studio Equipment *** Room before living room w/ piano computer, amp seating for parents, Baldwin Professional Upright Piano. I also have an enormous music library.
*** Travel Equipment *** I play for various events with the Korg Pa3x, where a one person band is required. I also play the acoustic grand pianos in several independent livings centers in Westchester County as an entertainer or to accompany sing-a-longs.

Roseann has a very pleasant personality and makes learning the guitar enjoyable and exciting for my six year old daughter. She gives clear and concise instructions that my daughter can understand and follow on her own while practicing at home. I would highly recommend Roesann to anyone interested in learning the guitar.
It is my goal to develop in each of my students a comprehensive understanding of music which enables them to play the piano with utmost enjoyment and musicality. Quality piano instruction is achieved through focused private lessons. Although with many students I emphasize classical repertoire, it really doesn't work with every student. Each student's curriculum is ALWAYS tailored to their interests and goals. I find encouragement is absolutely necessary but students must try their best. My teaching style consists of a fun, relaxed environment where students can feel like they can express themselves fully and learn much at the same time. Mastery at the piano is so much more than learning to press the right keys at the right time. Music is about expressing and sharing human emotions and feelings that are unspoken and is something we can all be touched by.
I've been banging on the piano since I was 3, but piano became more structured when I turned 7 and I've loved piano so much since then! I've been classically trained in the US and then later in Italy so all together I have 17 years piano playing experience. My favorite genre is Modern Japanese Classical music (fancy name for anime and video game music). While studying abroad with my Maestro in Italy however, I was only allowed to play classical music so I became even more proficient in that musical genre. I have been teaching Children and Adult students for 7 years. People aren't' intimidated when I'm around and I believe students benefit greatly when they are comfortable with the teacher and can feel natural around them. The teaching process is most successful when the students share their ideas, disagreements, goals; when th
ey are challenged and test their abilities. ***Lesson Details*** I am very laid back and love to laugh, but I do expect the students to be prepared and practice, this way they benefit the most from each teaching session. I believe students should be involved in their curriculum, so I encourage all to bring in pieces THEY WANT to play because this will make the learning process overall more fun and enjoyable. My trust is, if you practice regularly you can accomplish much in a short period of time. Whatever you put into learning piano, is what you will get out, whether great or small. ***Specialties*** - Modern Japanese Classical : Yoko Shimamura, Nobuo Uematsu ... (Video Game and Anime) - Classical : Joplin, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff ... - Italian Technique Training

My daughters, 8 and 6, took lessons as beginners from Melody for 10 months before we had to move. SHE IS AMAZING! Not only did she make the lessons fun and engaging, but they learned so much in that short time. I grew up playing piano, violin and French horn and I was very impressed with her approach/methodology and how much of herself she put into her teaching. For the last 3 months we were with Melody, the girls also took voice lessons. The highlight of our spring was watching the girls perform at the recital Melody had so painstakingly organized. It was astounding how much they had progressed musically and my husband and I were in awe at how well they performed in front of people. We were also impressed at the wide range of experience in the students Melody taught. Some had played for years and were clearly continuing to blossom under Melody's tutelage, while others were beginners like our daughters. Melody was always positive, encouraging and extremely patient (even when my six year old had clearly not practiced for a week straight or was tired and whiny). My daughters and I miss her dearly as our mentor and now our friend! We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Two of my girls had the great opportunity to begin piano lessons with Ms. Melody. It was just three months but my girls were able to join the Christmas recital which they enjoyed so much! It was unfortunate that we have to move overseas. We highly recommend Ms. Melody. She is a very good teacher.

My son was 6 years old when he started piano lessons with Ms. Melody and he always looked forward to the weekly lessons. For a short period of time, he learned how to read music notes and play songs beautifully. Sadly Ms, Melody has to move. She is fun, engaging, and firm in her teaching. We really appreciate her.

Dr. Desmond was a really great instructor! He was very kind and patient with me, he was able to teach me at ability level. He encouraged me to believe in myself and to practice in order to become a better player. He made me feel comfortable and and gave be positive reinforcements when I was doing well as well as positive constructive criticism when I was slacking. I look forward to continuing my courses with Dr. Desmond, I would recommend him to any one interested in learning how to play any instrument.

My son is a BEGINNER beginner. Rodrigo is a very nice guy and seems to know his stuff very well. I would give him 5 stars but I don't think he realized that my son needed the basic, basic 1st lesson (i.e. how to hold the instrument). We've only attended one session so this is fully based on that one lesson. I'm sure he'll adjust his teaching from here on out.

Mr. Rodrigo is a professional, respectful and super patient instructor. I could not made a better choice. I am looking forward to my next class @

Rodrigo is a great teacher, not only an expert musician, but he shares all his knowledge.
Piano is my secondary instrument and I've been teaching it for the past 2 years. I've helped my students develop a love for the instrument as well as general music theory. I go through the different aspects of music, how to read and understand the different signs and symbols, step by step and make sure to give students enough material to practice. The book I like to use is piano adventures as well as works by Teleman, Chopin, and Mozart to start students off.
For more advanced students, typically the focus is put on performance, composition, advanced music theory and musical tones and colors. Works by Bach, Debussy and Beethoven are emphasized.
Hi there! I am really excited that you've decided to take music lessons and are here on my page looking for an awesome teacher. I have lots of experience in music and I can't wait to teach it to someone else, whether they're a kid or an adult.
Currently, I am a global health worker, saving the world one place and illness at a time. I've spent a lot of time in school and music has been the one medium through which I have relieved stressed and made myself happy, inspired, and relaxed. While going to school, I also continued my music by being a teacher as well as taking a couple of courses and helping out with the university orchestra.
Started music at the young age of 8, with my first instrument being the Flute followed by the Piano. Because I began music with a teacher who was studying music academically, I have a very strong backg
round in theory, technique, and tone. At the same time, I really think its all about having fun and loving what you play/learn.
I have taught adults and children so I do feel comfortable with any age group. I also have a pretty vast repertoire of different books and pieces that I use for different levels and ages.
My philosophy is for the learning/teaching experience to be a complete collaboration between me and the student. I am tough with certain things because I know they're super important to master but I like to also bend certain rules so that my student is happy with the classes.
I hope to hear from you and if not, I hope you find a really awesome music teacher!
My 9 year old granddaughter joined her school band to play flute with no prior experience in either endeavor. The band instructor has little time to help the children individually and so my granddaughter struggled on her own. We found Lily and after only 3 lessons my granddaughter's abiity to read music and play the flute has increased dramatically. Lily's teaching style is very matter of fact, patient and encouraging. My granddaughter looks forward to her lessons and to spending time with Lily. We feels Lily is a wonderful teacher and a real inspiration to our blossoming flutist.

She is fun, helpful and always has a positive attitude. She always arrives for classes with tons of energy. I have learned a lot from Lilly.

i wish to learn music.
I've been teaching piano and keyboard for over ten years. I've developed a unique, project-based to help the student understand and develop the skills necessary for piano and keyboard in today's world. I teach the fundamentals of music theory and technique first, and then allow the student to choose specific areas of focus.
Hi, I'm Aaron, and I'm here to help you achieve your personal musical goals. In 1999 I received a degree in music composition, and I've been composing, performing, directing, producing, and of course teaching ever since. I believe every student is unique, with individual strengths and challenges, and with quality instruction and perseverance every student can use their strengths to perform the music they desire. I look forward to helping you get started!
I had a great experience learning from Aaron. I was a brand new piano player with no knowledge of the instrument or music in general. Aaron was very patient and diligent in teaching me how to set a musical foundation. If you have the pleasure of working with him you will see why he is so highly rated.
