I cannot learn something without wanting to immediately begin sharing what I know. That's what inspired me to begin teaching, and it continues to drive me today.

My credo is, "Take fun seriously." There is a reason we say that we "play" music; it is meant to be entertaining, for the listener and the performer. I know you want to learn to play an instrument so that you have one more pleasure in your life, and not to take up a new profession. But I also assume the highest potential in my students. If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well. My goal is for people to say to each other, "There seem to be a lot of good guitarists coming out of the Madison area. What's in the water?" My bottom line: Whatever your personal objectives, it is my job to discover them and help you meet them, whether you're interested performing at the campfire or the concert hall.

If you do not live nearby, we can learn together through online chat via FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout. I ...

So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

Great lesson! Thanks!
Robert C.
complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

I have been working with Kay for 4 years and have seen great improvement in not only my sound, but my technique, going from a frequent ensemble member, to being fortunate enough to be cast in leading roles, Kay has brought me a very long way.
Elijah
Kay has been teaching me for about a year now and it has been a wonderful experience. She is always polite and kind when we meet, she is flexible with scheduling when the issues of life come up. Of course she is incredibly knowledgeable with vocal technique and the world of Professional Singing which is very helpful for someone like me who has little experience.

I have had many experiences preparing for auditions for schools, symphonies and even for mock auditions. I have also learned about the audition experience through studying with my professor at Eastman, Peter Kurau, and through masterclasses with the renowned horn professor, William VerMeulen of Rice University.

About Xin

I am a professional Horn player. I am currently a student at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester getting my Bachelor's of Music under Professor Peter Kurau. Horn players can expect to have a unique sound, and I intend to let the student harness that rather than stick to whatever standard o

Xin is an energetic and friendly instructor. I was so glad to see she brings her horn to the lessons as well. My child connected with her right away, and he has a renewed excitement for his instrument.

Xin is a superb instructor. She is very patient and has provided me with techniques and tips that have improved my horn skills significantly. She is very knowledgeable and online instruction allows her to provide immediate feedback during the lesson. Though I have a long way to go, the improvements I have experienced have far surpassed my expectations.
Andrew
I haven't taken lessons from Xin, but as a colleague of hers at the Eastman School of Music, I can honestly say that she is one of the best and most dedicated horn players I've ever met. I have no doubt that Xin's skills as a musician would transfer well to her teaching. You won't go wrong with her.

These lessons are focused on re-awakening the student to their creative potential through authentic self-expression. Although centered around the voice, Michelle will use various techniques to help unlock any resistance or hesitation to expressing ones whole self more fully in the world. By first understanding and recognizing the voice as a vessel for creativity and authenticity, we can then cultivate habits and techniques, which allow the student to gain confidence, joy and inspiration through the expression of their authentic self. These lessons are ideal for those wishing to gain more confidence in their speaking voice, the individual looking to overcome any type of performance anxiety and/or for the student wishing to cultivate a speaking voice that more fully reflects and resonates the individual they desire to express themselves as. This can also be a wonderful opportunity for the seasoned performer to take their artistry and connection to their craft to the next level.

Great first day!
Jim
I recently started taking lessons with Kenny to try to learn some basic lead guitar in a one on one setting. I've been very impressed with his preparation, taking the time to tailor the lesson to my level of play and the music I am interested in playing. He also is very encouraging and is interested in my learning and progress, even going beyond the one hour lesson time to ensure that I have the tools necessary to continue to work at home.

"My teenager has had lessons with Jacob for 3 years, first guitar, then piano. He has a great personality and is a very encouraging teacher. She never once wanted to quit and never complained about going to the lessons, even with an otherwise very busy schedule, which is a testament to him and his teaching. He is a very dedicated and talented musician, and was always willing to work with whatever songs she wanted to learn. I would highly recommend him for any age kid or adult."

"I've been working with Randy over the 4 months on singing (I'm a total novice) and an intro to piano. I have found him an excellent instructor both in his depth and breadth of knowledge, and his ability to transfer that in plain english is outstanding. I am far beyond what I'd thought I'd accomplish. I credit that to his approach using live streaming instead of prerecorded videos. It's so much more interactive and there is nothing like playing or singing a piece and getting immediate feedback. So many things are revealed in the back and forth that lead to the understanding of what you're doing, instead of just rote memorization.

As someone is his early 60's who wanted to learn some things that I'd put on hold for many years, I'd highly recommend Randy as a way to achieve those goals."

"As an adult beginner, I chose Anastasia for more personalized instruction, especially in technique, after learning the basics through community center group lessons. I have not continued only because another equally well-qualified instructor who lives close by, within walking distance, has become available. I am very pleased with the lessons and pointers that I have received. Anastasia is professional, encouraging, and friendly. An especially helpful part of her instruction is the set of comments and suggestions that she writes down to guide practice between lessons. If the neighbor instructor does not work out, I’ll be back."

"So far, I've only had one lesson with Adam but I am looking forward to lots more. Adam seems very astute & knowledgeable not just in guitar-playing but in music theory, which is exactly what I'm lookin for in an instructor. He's helping me correct a few bad habits I've developed over the years, on my own. The way he explains things is very simple & to the point. I definitely recommend him based on my first lesson. I'll see if I can update my review at some point in the future but unless something goes horribly wrong, I wouldn't anticipate much to changen"
