I'm a first generation half-Japanese American currently living in Boston, MA! I spent my childhood surrounded by Japanese language and culture, followed by 7 years of formal language training, culminating in a Japanese language minor at the University of Washington. My thesis focused on the manifestation of gender in Japanese performing arts.
Growing up bilingual, I understand the difficulty of trying to juggle two languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons include reading, writing, listening, translating literature, and speaking (polite, casual, and formal styles). I use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

Do you want to understand your favorite anime show, movies or Japanese culture better? Do you want to learn to crack jokes in Japanese and win any crowd over? Would you like to do business in Japan and need someone who can not only teach you the language, but cultural differences and etiquette so you can win over any client?
Japanese and English are polar opposites in many ways.
Sentence structures are upside down. English is written horizontally left to right, but traditional Japanese is written vertically right to left.
Communicating can be difficult when what can be spoken directly in English has to be said in more subtle ways in Japanese, and this miscommunication can cause relationships to break down.
My passion is to help people cross cultural barriers and make new friends.
Learning a new language can build confidence and expand your mind in ways you never thought possible!
One of the signs that you have truly mastered a language is to understand the humor. I can ...

My lessons are full of originality and are designed to match your level and meet your goals and range from pre-intermediate to advanced levels.
◆30-minute lesson: Speaking practice plus one activity from listening, reading, or grammar, idioms your choice.
This class is set for the pre-intermediate levels of students.
◆45-minute lesson: All in one comprehensive lesson with 15-20 minutes speaking plus listening and reading, new vocabulary and grammar.
This class is for advanced levels of students.
We will work together to strengthen your vocabulary, listening, and reading skills. Also, students write composition homework every time, and we correct mistakes together in the next lesson. Advanced level students discuss one or two news articles or themes that you decide and the classes are held in Japanese only.
***Note: My lessons always have 5 minutes of break time at the end. This is because I must write feedback and prepare for the next class. Thank you for understanding.

I can help you with conversation skills, correct pronunciation and proper grammar. I usually use a textbook called ‘Genki’ for my lessons. I provide the textbook so you don’t have to buy it. With ‘Genki’ we can work on various grammar points, vocabulary building, situational role playing, pronunciation, and plenty of exercises to improve your listening and speaking skills.
I try my best to keep the classes as relaxed as possible so that you can feel comfortable speaking and can learn at your own pace.
