I find ukulele to often work better than guitar for many young students (typically years 10 and younger). When appropriate, the student can transition to guitar having increased hand strength and learned many of the concepts needed to excel. Of course, ukulele makes for a fun (and ultra-portable) instrument in its own right!
I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music.
*** Lesson Details *** I have a lesson plan that I follow for beginning students to get them through the basics. As a teacher I am laid back, and positive, but always try to give the student a clear reflection of how they are progressing. I find that some students thrive with
a lot of structure and others prefer a looser approach and I am quite comfortable teaching both ways. If the student maintains a consistent practice regimen, they should be able to play songs from the radio within 3 or 4 months.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in the living room with an amp, keyboard, computer, desk, parents can sit on couch in a separate room
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect my student to provide their instrument (including amp if necessary) and any instructional materials required.
*** Specialties *** I have had a lot of experience teaching beginning and intermediate students with method books, and have used them to teach reading, theory, technique, and repertoire. Most often, I take a slightly looser approach which I feel allows me to mold my teaching to fit the individual student's needs
We went over a lot of stuff. Im a cellist who has had bass lessons but was getting difficult for the simple reason that it wasnt methodical in any way. My goel is to transition to upright and Wes has enough musical knowledge to prepare toward that goel.
We will cover the basics of ukulele chords and strumming, with the goal of being able to accompany popular songs.
- Degree in Music Theory / History from University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. - 25 years' teaching and performing experience. - Fluent in all electric styles, plus acoustic and classical.
*** Lesson Details *** I like to cover the fundamentals while focusing on your personal goals. All stages of ability are welcome, from rank novice to pro. We'll determine what you wish to learn, and build a roadmap to get there.
*** Studio Equipment *** Home Office in his Townhouse: Music stand, recording equipment, two chairs.
*** Specialties *** All types of jazz, from swing to modern. Rock, Metal, Blues and Country. Composition and improvisation.
So far so good. Very patient as mistakes after mistake was made. Corrected quite a few mistakes I was making so that my habits would be good habits from the start. Let me talk to myself as I messed up and complimented me when I was on the right track.

Great lesson! Thanks!

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

Great lesson. Very knowledgeable. Love her teaching style.

I was nervous before I arrived and excited when I left. She was nice and very patient. Her professionalism is a confidence boost at least for me it was. She’s excellent, so if you’re trying to decide on a instructor, look no further.
I teach all the way to the Intermediate level and have a good understanding of the primary chords and scales of the Ukulele.
A fun, friendly, and professional Music Instructor at your service for Voice, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums, & Ukulele! I have a BA degree from Florida Atlantic University in Music Performance for Classical/Flamenco/Jazz/Blues guitar and I've also performed on the Piano/Keyboards for a couple different bands too. Love to play & teach pretty much all styles of music! It is always a pure joy & truly rewarding to see my music students grow and flourish in their musical abilities. I have been enjoying doing this now for 20+ years- all ages & levels. I am also in a multi-dimensional rock project and a recording artist with my band Vision.
I believe it's important to learn the rudiments of music to build a good foundation (scales, chord vocabulary, theory, song-composition, performing techniques), but I also base the lessons on whatever th
e interests and strengths are for the student. For example, if you enjoy jazz more than classical we'll focus more on what you are particularly passionate about. I have also been a part of School of Rock Programs in which we provided performances for the students a la Jack Black. Please contact Takelessons to let the musical journey begin...
I've been teaching uke for a few years and love it. I can teach anything from folk to hawaiian and more.
TEACHING MISSION: Capture the joy of playing music. Inspire continual playing and/or practice, regardless of student's lifestyle/career choices. I start the first lesson with a student wish list (songs, goals, etc) and every lesson we take significant steps towards the goals.
Derek is a very knowledgable instructor, easy to talk to, and I found his teaching technique is very motivating. He set realistic practice goals for the next session, which will require me to do my part, but that's the reason we show up, to learn how to play a musical instrument.
I highly recommend him.

Derek was very helpful! No time was wasted! Awesome 1st lesson!
What's not to love about the ukulele? Sweet and portable, the uke has made a huge comeback. I'd love to get you started. We'll learn chords and strumming techniques and apply those to the songs you're keen to play. We will also learn to read music and music theory.
Learn piano from a nationally touring recording artist, songwriter and composer with eleven years teaching experience. My approach to teaching piano is holistic, incorporating music theory, ear training, healthy physical technique, improvisation and sight reading. I have over eleven years experience teaching students of all ages, and I enjoy working with each student individually to build on their strengths and help them develop in the areas they find more challenging.
An EMMY-nominated film composer, I also teach songwriting for students interested in composition. Lessons are tailored to each student, incorporating a diverse mix of classical and contemporary repertoire and a practice plan that addresses each student's needs and musical goals.
Drawing upon my extensive background as a performer in music and theater, I encourage stu
dents to take creative risks, to be expressive, and above all, to play with joy! All students have the opportunity to share their progress with family and friends during fun, low-stress, semi-annual recitals. (Participation is optional but highly encouraged!)
Teaching Materials: I use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures books as a foundation, but also incorporate other music, including classical, pop and theatre music, depending upon student interest and what I feel will best help my students to stretch and grow! Students are also welcome to request pieces they would like to learn; I will do my best to find or create an arrangement that's appropriate to your current skill level.

Wonderful first lesson! Allison was patient and kind and by the end of the first hour, my daughter was playing a song I could recognize.

Patient, competent and personable. Looking forward to my lessons.

We've only had one lesson with Allison so far. Working with a 4 year old is a special kind of challenge and we had an excellent first experience! I think her judgment of my daughter's skill level was very accurate and her first song choice was spot-on. My daughter needed something that would exercise her skills but be easy enough to restore her confidence and bring the fun back to her lessons. We look forward to continuing lessons with her.
The ukulele is a fun, low-pressure instrument with more potential for great musicality than may first meet the eye. The learning curve is low and the rewards are high with the ukulele. You can learn 50% of your favorite songs within the first month. It's a great portable party trick and a lovely instrument to work towards mastering.
My name is Lucciana (Loo-Chee-Ah-Nah...I was named after Italian opera legend Luciano Pavarotti).
Background: I began formally studying music at age six. I spent my childhood and teen years participating in choir, orchestra, private instrument lessons (piano, voice, violin, Dobro), musical theater and I also played in local bands with musicians much older than I was at the time.
I became a music teacher for the first time at a small music store in 2009. I absolutely fell in love with sharing the skills and techniques that had helped me become a lifelong musician and I have been teaching ever since.
Instrument Lessons: My main instrument is the Dobro slide guitar. It is a very unique instrument that I love to share with people. I have equivalent experience with piano and voice instruction. I also teach guitar and ukul
Other Types of Lessons: I have run numerous songwriting workshops for all ages and I do one-on-one song coaching as well. I've been a professional songwriter for over a decade, and I love helping people refine and enhance their writing craft. We are all writers deep down! I will help you unlock your inner voice and express yourself using the power of music.
Summary: I have extensive experience working with a variety of age groups and special interest students. My areas of expertise range from young children (0-5) and adult beginners to live performance coaching for future professionals, songwriting coaching/feedback, and ear training.
Most importantly, I am passionate about teaching music in a way that leaves each student connected to the joy of creative play. No matter what age, skill level, or instrument, I fully believe that music meets you where you are and enriches your life in exceptional ways. I will work with you on what you wish to learn, incorporating skill, music theory, dexterity, technique, improv and repertoire into your curriculum in a way that leaves both of us inspired at the end of each lesson. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
When I was growing up, we all learned ukulele in Elementary school - when Uke started making its resurgence these last couple of years, I was quick to jump in and start teaching this super-fun, portable, "easy to get started" instrument! Play songs, accompany yourself singing - be the life of every party!
I'm a passionate professional vocalist and a fourth generation music educator. With 20+ years of professional performing, coaching and teaching experience under my belt, my vocal teaching method unites my classical and musical theatre educational background with the techniques I have developed for singing Jazz, Rock, R&B, Country, etc believably, beautifully, and above all, safely!
In expanding my teaching practice to include piano and ukulele, I emphasize rhythm and musicality alongside technique and note reading. I always set myself the goal of learning what makes a musician sound "right," and not just "good" in a particular genre. This versatility has made me extremely employable as an artist, and, I think, uniquely qualified to teach. I believe that students will work harder on music that moves them, and I always encourage students
to suggest songs that they care about. Good technique(s) can be applied to any repertoire!
Note: I believe that regular weekly lessons are essential to establishing good habits and making progress. As a result, I can only accept students who are interested in taking a lesson each week. Requests for biweekly lessons will regretfully be denied. Thanks!
Julia is an amazing piano teacher who is always more than accommodating with her schedule. I love the way she teaches and she always uses great analogies to help me understand the lesson better. I am an adult who has never played piano and she has really made the learning experience fun for me. I look forward to continuing my lessons with her. Highly recommend!!

"He did a good job"
"I purchased ukulele's for my kids on our last vacation to Hawaii. I figured the best way to make sure they played them was to sign them up for lessons. Al
ex allowed the kids to take their lessons together which was really nice for them. They thought Alex was an excellent teacher and they learned a lot from him. I was surprised at how fast they learned. He was very patient and open to helping them learn the things they wanted to know. They just want to play for personal enjoyment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex for anyone, no matter what your skill level is."
