Starting with greats like blind lemon Jefferson to Booker T. to Albert King to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn, in my blues class one will learn blues appreciation alongside the theory a techniques associated with playing that styles.
Learning is one of my main pursuits. My name is Azuri and I have studied music for over a decade and have my degree in guitar performance from musicians institute. I've had the gift of studying many artistic crafts and spend my time today trying to further my own study, while sharing what I've learned with my students.
Art is one of the most important tools we have as a culture and contains in it a shared history, tradition and the keys to future ones. Whether it be through the primal qualities of music or the impulses of dance, the records of drawing or descriptions of writing, these are the tools for our expression. I have had the great fortune to study, in many different settings, a small piece of these traditions and sharing them is paramount in respect to receiving them. I love sharing knowledge and I hope to elevate yours as a st
Teaching Philosophy -
My teaching philosophy is built on well rounded communication, explanation and examples. So, that a student can truly understand and learn a topic, surrounded in a very humorous, light and supportive environment. Along with being provided good information, a student learns better and feels more motivated to learn when there is a balance of positive support and confidence building accompanied by constructive criticism and examples/information that can help a student assess what ever walls they may be meeting in their musical growth.
I understand that all students/artists have different goals they wish to achieve. So it is very important to me to accommodate each individuals needs and wants to help them grow in the fields they wish too; However, In that I have played music for a long time, I understand there are certain things that a student may not have been exposed to yet; It is important that while focusing on a students artistic goals they respect and are open to the suggestion and guidance of their teacher.
I truly believe music has an amazing influence on the world and has the ability to change peoples way of thinking. Therefore, I try and keep an open awareness to all music, so that I can understand all different musical languages utilized to communicate to people, and I don't believe I will ever know them all. I hold it to attention to influence my students somewhat similarly so that they can shape the landscape of how we communicate musically in the future.
I also try and be very patient with my students. Knowing that when I feel rushed, it makes information more difficult to comprehend, remember and allocate. I love watching the gears run in my students head, so I try and provide information that pushes a student but is within their abilities.
HUMOR is very important. I like to break people out of their shell by telling a joke and hopefully getting one back, so they feel more comfortable and free. One of a Artists worst enemies are nerves. Keeping things light-hearted and maybe even a little small talk can be very helpful to a students development and growth on a topic. After all, Art is meant to be fun and we should enjoy every moment of it, in fact we should enjoy every moment in life period.
I understand music requires focus and discipline and I have certain expectation of a student to understand that and practice. You can't buy chops, you can't buy music theory etc. you can get help but eventually your the one who must understand it and play it.
I am here to help you. Based on what I know and what I have extensively studied, I will do all that I can to help you achieve your musical goals. I am here to answer your questions and help you grow. I love teaching because I love sharing knowledge; As long as your seek it, it is here for you. Otherwise, I'd still love to hear some jokes.

*** Lesson Details *** I'm very disciplined but am also very light hearted. It's important for me to assess things seriously, so that one can understand a topic or piece of information.
I generate my lessons based on the individuals needs and therefore draw from various curriculums, sources and examples, such as : MI curriculum for ear training, Theory, Single string Technique, Reading, Rhythm guitar, Ted Greenes Chord Chemistry, Berklee Guitar Method, as well as The Real Book, other artist books(Eric Clapton, etc.) The Guitar Players Hand Book, Bach pieces and self developed curriculums, relative to the topic at hand and students personal goals, amongst many others.
-Beginning students within three months of consistent lessons should have the ability to solo and playing chords to songs that they are interested in and songs provided in the lesson along with a basic understanding of the major scale and its relationship to all of the diatonic music.
-intermediate students should have an elevated understanding of scale and chord patters along with the theory that explains modal relationships and use of these concepts.
-Advanced students should learn all of diatonic scale shapes and modes assuming they don't already know them in which case their specifically situation will be assessed
-Professional students I expect to have specific questions therefore where they grow should be largely subjective.
Overall, in a short amount of time on a scale of 1 - 10 I expect to in three months at-least elevate a students musical abilities one full point if not more.
*** Studio Equipment *** Studio in home in private room with guitars, amps, piano, and seating. Em's studio is family owned cafe with studio in finished basement with an office, recording equipment, and teaching space for acting and guitar.
*** Specialties *** As a Musician I try and play as many styles and be proficient in as many as possible and therefore can play most. However, in the fields of blues, jazz, funk, flamenco and Latin I excel.
I cannot learn something without wanting to immediately begin sharing what I know. That's what inspired me to begin teaching, and it continues to drive me today.
My credo is, "Take fun seriously." There is a reason we say that we "play" music; it is meant to be entertaining, for the listener and the performer. I know you want to learn to play an instrument so that you have one more pleasure in your life, and not to take up a new profession. But I also assume the highest potential in my students. If something is worth learning, it's worth learning well. My goal is for people to say to each other, "There seem to be a lot of good guitarists coming out of the Madison area. What's in the water?" My bottom line: Whatever your personal objectives, it is my job to discover them and help you meet them, whether you're interested performing at the campfire or the concert hall.
If you do not live nearby, we can learn together through online chat via FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout. I ...

Great lesson! Thanks!

complete novice; adult student. First lesson very relaxed. Excellent blend through-out lesson of questions and information my goals and background as well as instructor's goals for me and his background. First "technical" part of lesson was manageable and care taken by Lyle to make sure I understood what was being presented. I left the first lesson feeling this would be a good fit between instructor and student

Jimmy has a nice balance between encouraging interest and basic understanding of music theory, with the fun of learning an instrument. His clear passion for music and teaching others to enjoy it too helps me progress on my personal goals, timeline and availability.

Jimmy is very knowledgeable and very approachable. In a short time, he has helped me to unlock the fretboard. Highly recommended.
Blues guitar was my first love in music. I'd play lick after lick as I was starting out...and eventually got to play with some very accomplished blues players in the process. Don't want to name drop though. ; )
I absolutely love teaching music! After over 20 years of teaching, performing, writing, and recording in all styles/genres, it continues to be a great adventure. It is a joy to pass this on to others...especially seeing my students that never touched the instrument going on to be very proficient players.
I take teaching seriously, but definitely try to make it enjoyable for the student. I studied classical guitar in college, but was playing everything from Van Halen to Jazz to Country & Blues before that. Currently, I'd consider myself a flat out musical mutt...enjoying anything and everything. The love of guitar has also expanded to a multitude of instruments that I record, gig, & teach with.
I'm Ahmad a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself guitar at the age of 12. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and studied music for 15 years receiving my B.M. and M.M in music and audio production at San Francisco State University. I then moved to Los Angeles then studied and trained with John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch and many others. I have performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S. as well in Europe and the Middle East with Artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Michael Angelo Batio, Ratt, Sammy Hagar, Dokken and many others. I ranked #1 in the Slash Guitar Center competition. I was in the "list of top 5 guitar players ever" according to The Examiner, also picked as one of the best guitarists of 2013 and 2014 consecutively in the Rockwell UnScene magazine, and ranked 3rd in the Steve Vai Sam Ash Best in Shred competition.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.
I have 25 years experience teaching kids and adults guitar. Also performing live and in the studio.
*** Lesson Details *** My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, guitar technique, and theory.
Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student. Also,I do prefer to work weekly with my students. A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and rest playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.
An intermediate lesson has more focus on music and technique from a specific genre. A specialty is preparation for guitar auditions or doing live or studio gigs.
I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults.
*** Specialties *** I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and challenge them, as well. I also have new techniques for teaching Electric, Acoustic & CLassical Guitar. I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.
I started taking guitar lessons for the first time 10 months ago and am thankful I found such a great teacher in Ahmad. His positive attitude and love of music helps me stay engaged and lessons are productive and fun.
One of the great things about Ahmad is he listens to you and adjusts lesson content based on the feedback you provide. His ability to listen allows Ahmad to deliver a personalized lesson plan that incorporates your goals and gets you excited about what you are working on.
Ahmad also has taught me techniques to prevent and address minor aches that come up while learning to play. He takes this seriously and shows you how to prevent and resolve any issues that come up.
Overall, taking lessons from Ahmad has been a very positive experience. I look forward to continuing working with him to get better.

I have been taking guitar lessons with Ahmad Since 2011. Music has always been important to me and my lessons with Ahmad have been a continual source of inspiration and joy. I love Ahmad's musical philosophy and regardless of what I'm interested in he is always able to help me better myself. I continue to be very busy in my life but always find myself coming back to music. Through taking lessons with Ahmad I have been able to achieve many of my musical goals and know that if I keep practicing I will be able to achieve even more of my goals.
Ahmad is extremely talented, intelligent, and friendly and is always there to support me in whatever new musical concept I wish to learn next. He can help anyone looking to better themselves in a wide variety of areas regardless of the style of music you are interested in. I have been studying country and jazz with him primarily, as my goal is to be able to write my own music and put together a band some day. I have no intention of stopping music lessons with Ahmad as they continue to be something I look forward to every week. Anyone would be lucky to have such a great teacher.

I've had the pleasure of taking lessons from Ahmad for a couple of years. He is a very knowledgeable and patient instructor with the ability to find minor technical flaws in my playing and easily correct them. I really enjoy his philosophy and musical understanding with a really high ability to dissect and explain elements of a song and relate it to music theory that's easily understandable. On top of that he is a super nice guy that exudes nothing but a positive attitude and gives one the impression that anything is possible in one's musical effort that is really infectious. Don't hesitate to give Ahmad a try.
I have been playing guitar as my main instrument for almost 20 years. I am a multi-instrumentalist who writes, records, and produces his own alternative/indie rock music (check me out on Spotify, Apple, Soundcloud, Amazon, Google!).
We can develop a lesson plan specifically for what you want to accomplish: covering your favorite songs, writing original songs, improvising, reading music/tabs, and "shredding".
Hello! My name is Taylor and I have been playing guitar since I was 10 (that puts me around 20 years experience at this point in my life). I have picked up singing, drums, piano, and bass since then. I write and record my own music in my own “studio” during free time from work. I occasionally will play cover sets at venues/events for $$$.
I have had 3-4 students in my life and I believe each has met their goals partly from my teaching, but mostly by their own commitment to put the time into practicing what I tell/show them. I have 1 student that just graduated ASU for guitar performance, and another student that writes/records/plays out with his band.
If you are willing to listen and put time in to what I ask you to practice then we should be able to accomplish what you are aiming for in music!
My teaching philosophy does not change across instruments, so the way I teach will give students a comprehensive understanding of their instrument in addition to the foundational music knowledge required to play with people and be an effective communicator.
I began teaching myself guitar after two years of experience with the saxophone in middle school band. I furthered my understanding through my studies at UCLA, forming relationships with professors, music students, and LA-based professional musicians/composers.
I followed my curiosity and used my understanding of guitar as the foundation for learning piano. Piano solidified my approach to playing music, and continues to be the basis for how I teach. Few other instruments allow for a well-rounded understanding of the following concepts: melody, rhythm, and harmony.
These pivots in my music philosophy have made me resilient, adaptable, and allow me to continue to grow without the limitations of favoring one particular school of thought.
Let's learn the most important chords. Play scales and melodies. Learn how to harmonize two guitars. Keep rhythm. Bring a song in your head to life.
I want to focus on teaching beginners. People who have never picked up a guitar before but want to get started. If this is you, I will be a good match. I want to show you how the guitar is not intimidating. You can play chords and sing a song, you can play for someone else, or you can learn the guitar just to know you've mastered it and can play from time to time.
Hi, I'm Darwin Dennison. I just graduated from UNCW with a BFA in Creative Writing. I started playing the guitar because I wanted to write songs. I'm fascinated with teaching people the basics of how to strum chords and figure out where they are on the guitar.
"Ahh man, Alans great. He is patient and very good at explaining certain scales and techniques. He'll get you on that path you're trying to get on."
"No doubt Thomas will help fill in some gaps. I think he's got plenty he can tech me. Looking forward 👍👍"
"I have taken my first few lessons with Ryan and so far they have all been awesome!! Ryan is an extremely knowledgeable and talented guitarist, but he meet
s you right where you are. I feel my confidence growing more and more with every lesson. I look forward to many more!!"
"Phil is a phenomenal teacher - right from the start, he will get you on track with exercises and practice routines that keep you focused on learning to pl
ay the guitar. He will cover the areas that you must know to become proficient on the guitar, including forms, modes, chords and progressing toward learning to read music.
After struggling to teach myself to play the guitar, I realized that I had hit a wall in my self-instructed learning and I needed to find a guitar teacher. I found Phil through word of mouth - and I have made great progress under his tutelage.
If you want to learn to play the guitar, Phil is the teacher you want - if you just want to learn to play songs, well, there’s YouTube."
"I have been studying with Ahmad for just about 2 months. But that's enough for me to say he is an awesome guitar teacher. I think his teaching experience
and method is a huge advantage for people who need professional guidance.
I was self-teaching for about a year before I came to Ahmad. It worked out just fine. I learned something. But I started to get confused at a point where I don't know how to move forward. I like a very specific group of guitarist (mostly Japanese fingerstyle players). And I wanted to learn how to master songs from those guitarist. And there is no such website or book that would teach me how to do that. Most of the guitar books or websites either give out general informations or put all information together as a mess.
Finally I decided to find a teacher. I found the lesson with Ahmad pretty effective. He is an experienced teacher who knows what you need to learn in order to achieve your goal. He has plenty of handouts that really helps me practice. The most important thing I learned from him is the big picture of guitar learning. For example, I learned the connection between scales and chords, why/how to improvise with these, how to go from there to other relevant things, etc.
When I look back over a year, I realize I have wasted some much time and effort trying to teach myself and wish it could have similar outcome as having a good teacher. Studying with Ahmad saves me so much time and effort (because it's actually easier!)"
"Andy was my guitar instructor for more than year. He is a master in theory and practice and is able to bring you to the highest levels. The breath of lear
ning opportunities he offers in terms of techniques, styles, rhythms, songs etc is huge and allows for training and development in the desired areas at every possible level. And he can back up the lessons by the underlying music theory as needed. In practice, Andy quickly spots where issues lie and provides useful hints to overcome technical problems. In addition he offers useful material which helps when practicing at home.
WissenTechniken Gives the right hints flexi"
"As a long time guitar player coming from an entirely self-taught background, Ryan has done a great job getting me on track to formalize my existing skills
and give me new tools to approach my instrument and art. Very refreshing learning experience!"
"Lucky for me that TARA moved to NY when i decided to Take Acoustic Guitar Lessons. She is very Patient & Knowledgeable with Different Music Styles.I have b
een taking lessons for about a year with good results. Great Teacher & Excellent Musician with Mandolin or Guitar Highly Recommend ."
"Great instructor. Very well prepared, clear and precise in what I need to learn. I had fun learning blues."
Ready to learn to play blues guitar? This lesson from guitar teacher James W. is the perfect place to start...
What is a shuffle, anyway? A shuffle is a rhythm of 8th notes played in triplets, essentially playing 3/4 time over a 4/4 beat to make the music swing.
Blues, pop, jazz, and rock musicians all use the shuffle. The blues shuffle is a fun pattern that is simple to absorb into your playing across many genres of music. Think of pop, rock, big band, and blues as being a part of the s …
