40 years of German language knowledge, having lived and worked in both Cologne and Berlin. I'm a certified teacher with a minor in German, having taught at all levels internationally.
Award winning journalist and teacher with international experience, having lived and worked in both Europe and the United States. Certified teacher with experience in all levels and with all ages. Both a Liberal Arts and a Science major.
German started in my extended family and has gradually become a central part of my life. First I studied German for five years in grammar school. Then I traveled to Germany multiple times, and hosted Couschsurfers from Germany and Austria. My nephews are being raised bilingual in English and German, and I have both native and second language German speakers in my nuclear and extended family. Having this broad perspective on how German fits in the landscape of international communication, I can adapt a students' education to fit their needs whether it be in mastering school skills or learning German for travel, work or to build relationships.
I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn how to open up and knuckle down at the same time!
I am currently a full-time YouTube Creator, sidelining in cover bands and a solo act. Teaching is a big part of what I do online so I see my work as a private teacher as 'research' for the lessons I create. Although I'm firmly grounded in a classical music training, there's nothing you can ask about that I won't try to figure out. My favorite thing about teaching is using unexpected questions to develop new ideas that I then integrate into my original compositions. Check out my intro to the B
lues Raga video if you want to hear a good story about what I mean.
Recently I've had several articles published by the TakeLessons Blog. Check out my most recent post here. http://takelessons.com/blog/how-to-play-acoustic-guitar-like-john-mayer-z01
I am a native German and able to teach in every level and in dialects and accents as well.
Teaching is more a hobby and pleasure for me than a side job. My students mostly have to remind me that the time is over and I have to let them go. ;)
I work as a tutor and mentor in many of those fields for years. It was and is a side business, but I always enjoyed teaching. I am looking forward to move on with you and / or your kids. Have a great day, Marcel
Update 02/10/15: Takelessons is a great way to teach and a fantastic and easy way to learn for students. I currently have 3 students per week, with several hours. I really enjoy it, either online via Skype or Facetime or Live at the students place. Hit me up and let's move something together.
I learned a lot from Marcel and liked his vision of how to redo the garden. The original garden was cluttered with overlapping plants and we discussed how to improve it. He pulled out his iPad and made several garden sketches that were helpful. The original garden was cluttered with overlapping plants and we decided to remove several of them and re-"orchestrate" the remaining ones. (We only bought new plants if they were needed to realize the new garden vision.) He is also a very hard worker, helping me (physically) transplant and add plants as required. For example, we transplanted a 100+ (?) pound Sago palm across the front yard. I would never have done that on my own (too heavy for me) but together we did it! Highly recommended. Bill

Excellent teacher. We took a 20'x2' section of "dirt" in the back, redid the soil, transplanted a rose in that section, added two other new roses and a bunch of ground cover. Looks great! Recommended.

I did not actually take any lessons with him, but his schedule did not reflect what showed as available in Takelessons. He had a very bad attitude and would not actually schedule the lesson after several exchanges.
What is my approach? First of all, I listen carefully, very carefully. I believe it is important for an excellent job to know precisely what my client wants to accomplish. Understanding this is the prerequisite to give good advice, guidance and then, of course, a plan, a kind of strategy to follow in order to reach these goals. There will be a permanent interaction between my client and myself to monitor the progress, eventually speed up the tempo or, if necessary, to slow down. There is no dogma; there is only one main criterion: success.
I spent two decades of my professional life teaching English in Germany, authoring and co-authoring textbooks for the English classroom. During my stay in the US, I had the opportunity to develop curricula for teaching German in public schools as well as private schools and wrote articles in the field of German literature. Undoubtedly, my academic background (MA in German and English and a Ph.D. in the field of education) helps me to provide solid work for my students.

Lessons with Wolfgang S. are always a pleasure. He is highly professional, friendly, and tailored all my lessons exactly to fit my needs and interests. He quickly pinpoints any areas that need help, and offers gentle corrections and suggestions to improve. His teaching methods are always interesting, varied, and fun. I learned a lot not only about grammar and vocabulary, but about German culture, and nuances and history of the language that can only be learned from a native speaker with his teaching experience. His explanations to questions are clear and thorough, and he made sure I understood before moving on. He adjusted the pace to my skills and needs without any pressure. I have definitely improved in all areas since taking lessons with him.

Wolfgang helped me believe in my confidence to reengage in learning German after 20 years wothout lessons or practice. He is thorough, patient and encouraging. I look forward to future lessons

Most highly recommended! I found Wolfgang to be an excellent German instructor for me. As a mature (50+) professional I was looking for a native German with perfect mastery of English and impeccable teaching credentials. Wolfgang fit that description perfectly. He tailored the lessons to my needs and made them fun. Along with the excellent language lessons, I really enjoyed his stories about life in Germany, and especially his hometown of Berlin. Thanks to Wolfgang I am much farther along my journey of learning to speak German.
Wie geht's (what's up! How's it going)? If you're looking for a German tutor to help you get through your studies in school, your music as a singer, or as a casual speaker, look no further. We'll practice writing skills, conversation skills, and improve pronunciation (so that your German is "Hoch Deutsch," or what the Germans call "High German" pronunciation).
Nicole is available to teach lessons for students of all levels. Beginning her singing career when she was 7, she most recently sang at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, was a winner of the international CS Competition in musical theatre, and is a Chicago F.A.M.E. finalist for Jazz and popular music. Combined with her training and professional experience, Nicole teaches singers to switch gracefully between multiple styles. She practices what she preaches: one night she might be singing Beyoncé, and the next morning she might be singing Handel's Messiah!
Nicole has been a young artist for Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, Metropolitan International Music Festival, and for Tiroler Opern Programm, under international instructors, including Elizabeth Bachman (from the Metropolitan Opera), Kim Josephson (Metropolitan Opera), Sharon Cheng (Caramoor),
Michael Fennely (Carnegie Hall), Wei-En Hsu (Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra), and Candace Evans (Santa Fe Opera). Nicole earned her Associates in Theatre from Brigham Young University ('12) and went on to acquire her BM in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University ('14). Nicole obtained additional training from Boston University, Elon University, and the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Guten Tag! I completed my master's degree in linguistics at the Free University of Berlin and spent a total of over four years in Germany. Whenever I speak with natives, they tell me that my German is excellent, practically without accent! I would love to help students who are just getting started with German or who are already moving into the conversational level. I also have a lot of great German language learning materials that could be incorporated into the lessons. Ich freue mich darauf mit Ihnen zu arbeiten! (I look forward to working with you!)
Are you looking to brush up your English skills or try your hand at learning French or German? I would be delighted to help you find your way in navigating these tricky languages.
Allow me to tell you about myself. I am a certified and experienced ESL teacher who has traveled the globe and shared her skills abroad. I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics from Boston University and a master's degree in the same from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. I obtained my TESOL certificate from ITTT in 2010 while I was volunteering in a refugee English class in Denver. The following year I taught ESL to foreign boarding students at a high school in Maine. While living in Germany I taught adult English classes at public community colleges and children's English classes at an after school club, as well as giving multiple private lessons. A
dditionally, I taught ESL to both children and adults at a private school in Switzerland. I have also volunteer taught at English camps for refugee adults and children in Lebanon. Like I said, I've been privileged to offer my skills all over the globe!
I speak both French and German fluently and can teach in these languages if need be, but mostly, having studied linguistics and other languages such as Russian and Arabic, I understand what it's like to be a foreign language learner. I studied the construction of languages and can easily break them down into their parts so that they are easier to wrap your head around.
My skills are not limited to teaching English only, but I am also an experienced proofreader and editor. I have edited myriad documents not only for private individuals but also in the academic and professional sectors. So if you need help with writing or are looking for someone to proofread your written works, I would be happy to offer this service.
Finally, as previously mentioned, I speak both French and German fluently and am happy to help beginner and intermediate learners to acquire these languages. Or if you just want someone to practice your skills with I can serve as your conversational partner! I love giving private lessons because that way I can connect with each student individually and tailor the lesson especially to meet his or her needs!
I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your linguistic way!
My name is Barbara, I was born and raised in Germany and worked for 15 years as a Training and Quality Executive in the hotel industry, one of the companies being The Ritz-Carlton, one of the best training companies in the world. I decided to fully homeschool my nine-year old daughter for two years, who, as a result, is fluent in German in both speaking and writing. We moved to NYC in 2013 and I was approved by and followed the official NYC Department of Education guidelines for homeschooling. I joined a weekly after-school program at my church in NYC, taught in English, and have been the director since 2015. My family and I just ...

I joined an after-school program at my church in NYC, taught in English, for Grades 1 to 6 as a tutor in 2014 and have been the director since 2015. I work remotely, with a team of eight volunteers and we assist between 8 to 12 children every week. We focus on Common Core English Language Arts - spelling, writing, reading, and Elementary Math. My family and I just relocated to Florida - Tampa this time - and we are enjoying the sun!
My husband is of Japanese origin. Being in an interracial marriage and raising a child in a household where multiple languages are spoken, I truly appreciate and understand the importance of learning about different cultures and languages.
Having tutored for many years and being a language student myself (intermediate Japanese), I know how to keep students interested in learning - and I love to work with different materials such as games, books, worksheets and role play to keep it interesting and motivating. I spend some time in Germany each year and purchase new and stimulating learning materials on a regular basis. If you are interested in beginner or advanced German lessons for yourself or your child, I am looking forward to meeting you, either in person or online!
Barbara is very professional. She is on time ready for the class. She communicates a lot to set proper expectations. She is teaching my 13 years old boy and he is pleased with her way to teach. Keep him motivated during the class. We are looking forward for many more classes with her.
As a Native Speaker I can teach you all the skills you’ll need to survive in and enjoy an German speaking environment. I can even teach you Idioms and slang :)
Hi everyone! My name is Eva and I'm very passionate about teaching and helping each other become better versions of ourselves.
I'm a certified ESL-Teacher and am trying to enable all ages and levels a chance to increase their English and German skills with the comfort of their home and their own availabilities. As a flexible person, I teach each lesson individually tailored to the students' needs. I like to use many different resources and have various different materials suiting every style of learning.
Outdoing, positive, social and full of laughter are words my friends would describe me with.
I love teaching, I love speaking English and I love getting to know people from all parts of the world. I believe, I can all teach each other something, because everyone is good in something. For my I've found, it's teaching English.
It's important for me to build a friendly relationship between my students and me. I think, that's a key of learning. Seeing it more as a valuable get-together and holding a purposeful conversation.
Those of you, who are interested in learning German from a Native with teaching background or improving their English in this exact way, should reach out to me and I'm telling you, we'll have fun and educational lessons.
"Fairly good instructor. Used so many tools to track progress using voice software to improve pronunciation"

"Really impressed. I can already do the High German R much better after only one lesson. He explains difficult concepts in a way that I can understand. Cla

German is a language that scares many non-native speakers as it can appear complex and confusing. With proper instruction and practice, however, this widely-used language can be easy and fun to learn.
One of the keys to learning German--or any new language for that matter-- is to look past the typical travel dictionaries and absorb some of the more common expressions or idioms that are used throughout daily life. Getting familiar with typical German expressions will help you better commu …
