Jacob B.

North Haven, CT

About Jacob

I've been playing the bass since I was 12.  I picked the bass because I wanted to be in a band with my friends, and since I already played the cello, I figured bass would be an easy transition.  It was only after I had been playing for a couple years that I realized what a great choice I had made, and what a vital role the bass has in every style of music. I attended Berklee College of Music in 2002, and graduated in 2006. I've been playing professionally in a wide variety of genres ever since.

Great dude, even greater Teacher.

I have only had Jacob for 3 lessons so far and I have already seen a massive improvement in my technique and knowledge of the bass guitar. Jacob is great at using the musical knowledge I already posses and translating that towards bass performance. So far every lesson has covered tons of ground, and he offers a great rate for a 1 hour lesson! He even did the first lesson for free!

Jacob is very good at communicating ideas and is totally open to questions so I never feel self-conscious about my own skill. And during the lesson it is very clear Jacob really wants to help you GET BETTER, not GET THROUGH the lesson, which is what I have sometimes experienced with other teachers. I guess I should also mention Jacob is a fantastic bass player and tons of experience in several bands and genres. I am so glad I ended having Jacob as my teacher and I am really excited to see where my skills are at in just a few months!

Seriously, PICK THIS GUY!

Learning to play guitar can be a daunting task. Don breaks it down into easy to understand lessons. After each lesson he sends me home with practice homework so I constantly feel like I'm making progress.

The most important thing for me when i wanted to take lesson was that the teacher new his stuff, Don definitely does. I'm not just learning to play guitar, i'm also learning more about music.

When looking for a guitar teacher for my daughter, I was so pleased to find Don. He knew exactly where to begin with her and started her playing music right away. His creative techniques keep her engaged and excitedly looking for what's coming next. He is professional, yet warm at the same time, putting both her and I at ease. It is amazing to see the transformation in my daughter's guitar abilities as well as the transformation in her confidence. Don's expertise and patience is perfectly blended.
Thanks Don!

Don has taught my son for over four years. He couldn't even read yet and Don was still able to get through to him. Great blend of modern rock and classics. Don blends the ability to teach skills, theory, and essential building blocks while also working in stuff that the students want to play.

Also, from a technology standpoint, Don uses a great site with file uploads, customize backing tracks and the ability to schedule. I would recommend to anyone interested in learning guitar from someone who cares about his students.

Cameron S.

New Britain, CT

About Cameron

STUDYING WITH ME:

Learning guitar should be interesting and fun! While we're studying all the different aspects of the instrument, you'll also be learning how to play your favorite songs and solos! I approach each student as an individual and structure their lessons according to what I determine they need, as well as what they are interested in musically. I concentrate on many different areas; ear training, theory, playing technique, improvisation, various styles of music, and, the physics of the guitar. Understanding how the instrument works is important in my opinion. My long term goal
is to teach a student how they can teach themselves down the line. Understanding why you’re playing something is just important as knowing how to play it. I aim to give a student rich and well rounded one-on-one time!

GENERAL BIOGRAPHY:

I have been teaching and performing for over a decade both in the US, and in England. I have played in various bands and have produced independent artists. I have worked for a recording studio and for various academic institutions including the Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School in New York city.

I obtained my degree from Purchase College in New York and am a member of their Conservatory of Music.

*** Lesson Details ***
I construct lessons for each individual student depending on their musical tastes, goals, and current skill level etc. I want each person to get as much from their time studying with me as possible. Within three to six months, I'll have you working on timing, theory, ear training, improv, and songs/styles of music you may be interested in. I'm laid back, however, I expect at least the minimum practice time between lessons, which I'll change throughout the course of our time together depending on your skill level etc. Practice materials I draw up are included. I write out everything in plain English and do not require the use of sheet music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Small recording studio, piano, various guitars, bass, and amps.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar, bass, laptop, digital recorder.

*** Specialties ***
I concentrate on ear training, improvisation, and explore styles ranging from pop, alternative, rock, prog, and blues, to metal, funk, and folk etc. I do not require sight reading skills for any level of student. Rather, I work with the student with theory and arrangement conventions to really understand the music. This intern, greatly sharpens their musical ear and helps them to learn music much faster because they understand how it is put together; why and how it works, etc.

***Teaching Special Needs***
I have experience teaching students who have been visually impaired,
blind, hearing impaired, or who have had mild learning disabilities. I
am also comfortable with a student bringing their service dog or
therapy dog to our lessons if they wish.

A solid teacher with a lot of experience

Cameron is great at tailoring the lessons to my musical taste without compromising the theory, basics and fundamentals.
I have been taking lessons for one year and will not go elsewhere anytime soon. His vast musical knowledge helps merge the theory with concrete examples. No question remains unanswered.

great instructor

I've been taking bass lessons from Cameron for a few months now. He's a great instructor. Very knowledgeable, very patient, and puts in time outside our lessons to be prepared to teach or play new material that I am interested in. I always look forward to my lessons. If you're looking for a good bass or guitar teacher (not sure what else he might teach) Cameron is your guy!

Dale R. B. is a private teacher, musician, conductor, clinician, and rising composer for video games from West Hartford, Connecticut. He is currently accepting new students and teaching private lessons in piano, guitar, percussion, and composition for students of all ages in both Hartford and New Haven counties.

Dale received his Bachelor of Arts in Percussion degree from the University of Connecticut in May of 2012 and was an active member of both the university's Winds and Percussion Ensembles. In his studies, he has taken advanced courses in composition, orchestration, conducting, percu
ssion technique, and brass technique. He has 13 years experience in percussion, 15 years experience in guitar, and 22 years experience in piano. Dale's teachers include Nancy Campagnola, Ronald Blouin, Jacqueline Rodriguez, Peter Coutsouridis, JC Caillouette, acclaimed marimbist Haruka Fujii, American Symphony Orchestra percussionist Javier Diaz, and orchestral composer Kenneth Fuchs, who has twice been nominated for a Grammy award.

Dale once held a freelance instrumental composer for Ear Goo Inc. in New York City, Here Dale wrote multi-genre works for film, television, promotional trailers, and advertisements. His vast clientele included household names such as Universal Studios, Paramount Pictures, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Sony, Revlon, and Coca-Cola. Dale is currently represented by Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), a world-renowned performing rights organization that also represents artists such as Eminem, Shakira, and Maroon 5. His original music for marching band was performed on a weekly basis during the 2012 competitive season in USSBA Class III competitions around Connecticut by the Trojan Marching Band at Lyman Hall High School, where he held a position as their percussion instructor.

As a clinician, Dale has been asked on an annual basis to judge timpani, mallet percussion, and snare drum at several Regional and All-State Music Festivals around the state since 2009. He has also given presentations on the importance of installing/maintaining a music and arts curriculum in the Connecticut public school system as well as the history and proper care of mallet percussion instruments.

As a performing musician, Dale has appeared in several venues across the state, most recently at the storied Shubert Theater in New Haven, which hosted the world premiere of Dale's "Les Reves de Jeunesse Oubliée," an original piano solo that was well-received. He hosted his first Composition Recital on April 3, 2012 at the Von Der Mehden Recital Hall, where Dale showcased six live, original works, including a piano solo, a euphonium solo, a woodwind sextet, and a percussion quartet. Dale has played in live productions and musicals with both the Connecticut Repertory Theater and the Church of the Resurrection Youth Group, while winning numerous awards for his musicianship, including Lyman Hall’s “Outstanding Musician Award” for three consecutive years. Among numerous charitable events he has partaken in, Dale performed selected works by marimbist Daniel Berg on the piano as part of the Hamden Academy’s annual canned food drive, where together they raised over 500 cans of food for those without homes. Outside of music, Dale’s interests include baseball, video games, creative writing, jogging, and the ocean.

As a private teacher, Dale strives to ignite a passion for classical and instrumental music regardless of the instrument, and firmly believes that the art of making music is both satisfying and rewarding for both the short and the long-term. Because there are so many different types and genres out there, he knows that music is something every person can enjoy regardless of their differences, and so his ultimate goal for each and every pupil is to inspire and cultivate a newfound appreciation for the musical world.
