Victor K.

Cincinnati, OH

About Victor

I received my Bachelor of Music Degree in Organ Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in June of 2010, studying under Dr. Roberta Gary. I have completed all the coursework for the Master of Music Degree in Organ Performance. I will receive the degree in late 2014 or early 2015 after performing one more solo recital.

I began playing the piano at the age of 5, later moving to the organ at 9. I have held a church job since then, working in multiple different denominations and settings. I have a strong background of piano, accompanying, theory, sacred liturgy, and m
usical performance. I enjoy studying and listening to many genres of music as well as performing them. I am very interested in historically informed performance and understanding different techniques as they are related to the composition style of different time periods.

I enjoy working with students of all ages. Regardless of your ability, age, or experience, I will work with you. We can work out a plan for lesson times, intensity of practice and work, and tailor the lesson to the right pace for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons tend to be tailored to the needs of individual students. I am not as much a fan of a strict curriculum that I use on each student. For beginners, one can expect to be given method books to get them moving in the right direction. As one advances, we eventually move on to repertoire. I take an approach to lessons that emphasizes total body awareness and high level mental awareness. The most important thing anyone can learn in music is that it isn't just about the right notes; it isn't about the right rhythm. It is about the complete musicianship and the complete awareness needed to truly understand and perform a work of music. In order to make this approach work, my strictness as a teacher varies depending on the level of devotion the student is willing to put forth. After six months with me as a teacher, expect to notice changes in the way you see music and comprehend your technique at the keyboard.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to purchase their own music. For beginners with method books, I have these available to the students to purchase from me.

*** Specialties ***
I am very highly trained in performance practices of the Baroque era, especially on the organ. I am also very specialized in body movement and efficient keyboard technique. I also have a lot of experience in the Romantic repertoire of the piano. Lastly, I am also well trained as an accompanist on both the organ and the piano.

B.J. J.

Cincinnati, OH

About B.J.

I hold an MBA in Music Management from the William Paterson University of New Jersey and a BA in Jazz Studies from the University of Louisville, School of Music. I began teaching music directly out of high school with helping out at area marching band camps. I like to encourage my students to develop not only a competency for their instruments, but more importantly a lifelong passion and appreciation for the arts. I've found that each student has varying levels, needs and desires to their individual approach to learning. I emphasize and encourage my students to celebrate the small wins along t
heir own personal journey in the music.

I was playing sax for 25-30 years, self taught and had maybe a couple months of formal lessons in total. I was in my mid 40's and a friend introduced me to B.J I started bari sax lessons with him and loved it. I was finally learning the right way. When your doing somethng wrong for 25-30 years, it's hard to correct and break old habits.. B.J. had a tremendous amount of patience with this older student, who was married, three kids and working 60 hours weeks, crazy hours. He was flexible and understanding. Hearing B.J. play inspired me to finally start those lessons. Some players can play but are not as adept at teaching someone else what they know. That is certainly NOT the case with B.J. I know I improved musically and thank him for that!

BJ is very professional, patient and "in tune" with different learning styles of individuals and finds creative ways to approach the many aspects of music.
I highly recommend Mr. Jansen, for all levels of performance and music theory.

Todd T.

Cincinnati, OH

About Todd

About Guitar Lessons With Todd

"Todd is a very gifted and motivated guitarist with an uncommon aptitude for teaching."
Rodney Stucky

"Todd is passionate about teaching, and dedicates himself to this with utmost energy and purpose. He is always extremely successful in producing a high level of achievement with every student." Jeffrey Van

One of the most important duties of a competent instructor is teaching students how to practice. This is just as true for the rank beginner as it is for the advanced student, or even professional. Everyone can learn to play music and play it well if
given competent instruction. Learning to play well is learning about the mind and body, and how to use it to one's potential. As the awareness of the self is refined, not only is the playing improved, but the potential for greatness is elevated. Learning to perform music with security and confidence is fun!

The premise is operationally-based, meaning that rather than showing rhythm, duration, and pitch, violin tabs will show the player where and when to place their fingers on the instrument. For an improvising musician, violin tabs allow you to improvise while staying within the chord structure of a song. Tablature-style notation is most commonly
