Bernadette T. Lindenhurst, NY

About Bernadette

I am a NYS certified teacher who has been teaching in the school system for 20 years. I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college. Incorporated in my system of guitar training work in music reading, music theory, fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques, and ear-training applicable to most contemporary styles of music. *** Lesson Details *** My lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. From single notes, students learn to build harmony, ...

When the year started and I wanted to get serious playing guitar and becoming a better performer, singer, songwriter and just overall musician, I said to myself, "Where do I start?" To find someone of Bernadette's talent, quality, and patience has truly be amazing. She is great at setting up a practice structure and teaching theory as well as building up your skills and open to directing the lessons to exactly what you are looking for. My confidence on the guitar has grown by leaps and bounds and I looking forward to continuing the journey...5 stars!!!!!

Professional and Experienced Teacher

I've had 4 lessons so far with Bernadette. I am an adult and feel I am making great progress. The lessons are a good mix of learning to play the guitar, learning to read music and theory. She recommended a good beginner book and while we stick to it she tailors the material according to how I am doing and need to learn. She also makes notes and gives me additional work in a music notebook. The lessons are never rushed and because there isn't a student after me usually are 5-10 minutes over the 45 minutes.
I feel fortunate to have found someone with a Masters in music education and 20 years of teaching experience.
Christina D. Brentwood, NY

About Christina

I am a classical singer and pianist from Wisconsin! I started playing music at the age of three on the piano and began voice lessons at 15. While in graduate school in Las Vegas, I started teaching both voice and piano lessons and found how much I loved imparting my knowledge to others and watching them make progress. I have performed leading roles in Operas and soloed in orchestral concerts and recitals. I mainly perform opera/classical but love musical theatre as well. My performing experience has taught me a lot which I am eager to pass on to my students! I have been teaching with Takelessons since my move to NYC in 2011. *** Lesson Details *** As a teacher, I try to create a lesson environment that is relaxed and open but still efficient. I have specific requests for you

Thomas has a great level of patience for students new to music lessons. He has a very enthusiastic approach to each lesson that he teaches. I truly enjoy how he is able to share his passion for music, often relating piano to other musical instruments during lessons.
Since I am someone very new to the world of music, I look forward to continuing my lessons with Thomas with the hopes that I can grow as a musician. I highly recommend his talents as a teacher of music.

The Best Drum Teacher

Jason is a fantastic drum teacher. I would highly recommend his services. Jason is a professional, dedicated, great personality and caring person. He is the type of person after meeting him we felt like we have known him for years. He taught my son not just to play the drums but also to be a performer. My son would always come home excited after lessons. Jason makes it fun for my son to learn. Within a few months my son played at our school talent show and he gave the performance of his life! The drums helped build up my sons self- esteem. Jason offers a private drum lesson at an affordable price. We are extremely happy and would definitely recommend him to everyone.

Cynthia is an amazing teacher! My daughter has only had three lessons so far, but she is learning so much and is still excited to learn more. Cynthia makes her work while not expecting more than what my child is capable of. She's very patient and makes the lessons easy to understand. She is also pretty flexible with her schedule (as much as possible) and will try to work with you if something comes up. My daughter will definitely continue her lessons with Cynthia.

I have played a number of gigs with Cynthia, and as a colleague I can say she has an incredible amount of both professionalism and proficiency in her field. Her piano and violin skills are something that you do not find much in the music education scene anymore. She is a rare find, and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a dedicated and talented teacher to go with Cynthia.

I am excited to write a review for our awesome violin instructor~! Our little pre-teen 10 year old daughter took lessons prior Miss Emily for about 6 months but had no motivation to practice and so there was no progress. However, since we met Miss Emily, our daughter has been so motivated! Only after her first lesson, she understood how to read notes, she was engaged, and must've picked up her violin to practice at least 3 times a day for a good 20-30 minutes on her own (under no request by Miss Emily)! I believe it is because Miss Emily is very passionate about her teaching and is very encouraging towards her students. She doesn't make violin lessons a chore, rather an amazing experience!

Miss Emily is very knowledgeable and an amazing and very professional instructor! She patiently goes step by step to make sure all the basis for a firm foundation in music is there and then thoroughly goes to all the steps to keep it simple in learning! She builds great rapport and brings her personal experience to make her more relatable! I would highly recommend Miss. Emily as an instructor!
