Antoinette A.

New York, NY

About Antoinette

Finding an educated player and finding a good teacher are two completely different things. When I see other teacher's profiles, they boast of the years of training they had. Anyone can learn and play. Not anyone can teach.

PATIENCE
When you know how to teach properly, you have a seemingly endless resource of patience. This is because what the student sees as "patient" is really just a small step in the educational process. It is a fraction of time just before a correction. When you have something new to teach, whether it is a new technique, or a correction of something being done improper
ly, and you know exactly how to break it down so it is understandable and accomplishable, you know it is always a short matter of time before the student gets it. And by short, I mean a matter of seconds, or minutes.

FRIENDLINESS
I respect others and what they feel and have to say. I treat others as I would want to be treated and lessons are always a pleasure to my students, because it is a pleasure for me to teach them.

EXPERIENCE
I have been playing for over 26 years. I have played with a multitude of local orchestras and bands and have done countless studio recording sessions and live shows. All of this experience comes through in my teaching either directly (when it comes time for you to perform) or gradually, as the lessons go on.

When you are learning, there is a vast sea of information. Not all of that knowledge is equal in importance. It is incredibly important to be able to distinguish what is important and what is not very important. All of my real-life experience, and continuing experience reveals itself in the form of ensuring my students know what is truly important.

Lest you get the idea that I am a wishy-washy, undemanding teacher, I can assure you this is not the case. Lessons are fun, but that is because they are productive. You will walk away being able to do something, and that requires hard work, and practice.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM MY STUDENTS
Practice.
Practice.
Practice.
And a winning attitude.

I can even work with you if you don't have a winning attitude, but it makes it more fun when you do.

HOW FAST CAN I EXPECT RESULTS?
Some students who were musicians previously leave the first lesson being able to play their first song. Most students however, who have never played an instrument before, can expect to be comfortable bowing (a huge part of the process - half the sound!) within the first few weeks, and will then move on to learning songs. We will be learning sheet music as well, on a very, very easy gradient. After the first couple months, I expect you to tell me which song it is you might like to learn most so that we can start working on it.

RENTALS
I rent out violins of all sizes.
I sell the book that I teach out of (or you can obtain it online or from Sam Ash).

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. You can use the contact button on this website and I will gladly answer you in return.

A guitar is available for students if they wish to use it to accompany themselves. I teach my students how to deal with performance anxiety . Students are presented in recitals twice a year and performance classes are held once a month in addition to the private lessons.

Ian B.

Astoria, NY

About Ian

Hi, my name is Ian and I have been playing music professionally since 2006 and teaching since 2009. A recent graduate of the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music, I am building up my private studio. I am available to teach lessons at a studio location, your home, or online. I have worked with students who are looking to enjoy learning more about music as well as those who are preparing for important auditions and performances. I enjoy teaching students of all ages and skill levels.

When working with children and adolescents, I create a structured learning environment and provide compreh
ensive instruction in instrumental technique, musicianship, and music theory. With adults, I teach them the fundamentals of the saxophone and reading music. As these skills develop, we explore the styles of music that inspire you to play.

I have studied under Reggie Workman, Billy Harper, Bobby Sanabria, Kirk Nurock, and many others and developed expertise in saxophone, improvisation, and composition (classical, jazz, rock, and pop). I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

I own both an alto and a tenor saxophone and am happy to work with students who play other saxophones. If you do not yet have a saxophone, I can sometimes arrange to have one available for you to use during the lesson, but I need to know in advance. Eventually, you will need your own instrument to practice. I am always happy to help students with saxophone rentals and purchases!

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all about lessons or acquiring an instrument. I'd be happy to work with you!

Yoon Jae L.

New York, NY

About Yoon Jae

I am a highly-skilled professional musician certified as a certified Steinway education partner with over 14 years of teaching experience. I offer lessons in classical piano, violin, viola, conducting, arranging/orchestration as well as private tutoring in ear training and theory.

My main instrument is piano and I specialize in teaching students who already play the instrument and wish to get a more in-depth experience with piano literature by learning new repertoire and developing their technique. I also teach adult beginners and young beginners whose parents have a dedicated commitment t
o having their children make music an integral part of their education. For all my students, I emphasize the importance of practicing efficiently and developing critical listening skills. This encourages consistent improvement and whatever your personal piano goals and skill levels are, I will help you improve and enjoy playing the piano more. I am very patient, encouraging and supportive of your desire to play the piano better. In addition to piano, I teach beginner and intermediate violin and viola students.

I encourage all my students to perform once or twice a year but this is entirely optional and based on the student's comfort level.

I am available and willing to travel to your home for an extra fee as long as public transportation is available.

Yoon Jae is patient and creative teacher. Even when I can't understand the material, or am not performing my highest capacity, he patiently teaches me. He never moves too quickly or get angry. He is also creative. Anyone can stand and review a material, but he can explain it in a way that I can easily understand and remember.
