Marie-France M.

Waldwick, NJ

About Marie-France

I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be.

The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach.

The following is a quote from ex-student Karena Krull, author of "Drama Made Easy", and "Rummy Root
s."

“Her greatest strength is her ability to find the right direction for each individual. This ability to adapt to the student's needs lends to individual success for student and avoids their frustration. If her current method or communication isn't creating success for a student she will quickly change to another till she finds the right words or method to enable the student to succeed with the least amount of frustration.”

*** Lesson Details ***
I draw on a wide range of materials in The Holistic Piano (and voice) method. The curriculum may be color-based or number-based, we might focus on chord building or sight-reading, or Songwriting, depending on the student's need and desire.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large Music Room: one grand piano, 2 keyboards, parents can sit in on lesson from living room

*** Specialties ***
Because each student is an individual, I approach teaching like a coach, custom designing a course of study for each student to meet their individual needs.

My 1st Trumpet lesson with Katie went well. I need the actual exercise music that
we worked on ?? Also, I was wondering if we could do a lesson somewhere out in the open. Like a hall, church, or bigger room, maybe my apartment ??

Thanks a lot Katie for your expertise, it is much appreciated.
Sincerely...... Ron Hooper

Chris B.

Butler, NJ

About Chris

My name is Chris B. and I've been playing music for most of my life.

The best lesson that I've personally learned is that a musician is never done learning. Once you start believing that you know everything there is to know about your instrument, or that your style of playing is superior to others, then you've stopped growing musically. Perhaps you excel in one area of your playing but need further development in another. Personally, I've also learned that I enjoy sharing my knowledge of music with others and exposing students to new techniques and musical concepts.

I strongly believ
e that these traits are the most important aspects of teaching music to others. No matter how advanced my playing skills might progress, I’ll always be able to relate to any type of student because I’m still learning something new everyday!

Chris was such a great instructor! I first started lessons with Chris a few months ago and I told him I only had a limited time to learn guitar. Taking the knowledge I already had with music, Chris helped me in only a few months to pick up and to be able to jam to some awesome songs on my acoustic guitar. He is very patient and works very well with whatever level you come in as! I came in knowing only one or two chords, and now I know many more and can confidently play some songs! Since I was a crazy busy college student, Chris was also very flexible with when lessons were, which I was very thankful for! I'd highly recommend taking lessons with him!

I love my lessons with Chris! I have no music background and have always wanted to play the guitar but never got around to making it happen. Now as I am older I think why not now?! I looked around for local lessons and found Chris's site. I loved his philosophy of how he teaches an individual based on what they want out of it! His statement of "some people just want to learn to play their favorite song" sold me! So glad I found him! It's never too late to pick up a guitar!

My lessons with Chris were amazing!! Chris teaches at a pace that is manageable and you never will feel overwhelmed. The bast part about his approach is his ability to teach music theory and not make it boring or complicated. Chris is also great at changing the lesson plan on the fly if we stumble on to something to explore further. My guitar playing improved greatly under Chris and I would recommend him to anyone looking to take lessons.

Matt R.

Wayne, NJ

About Matt

I started playing piano when I was 6 years old and before 5th grade I was accepted into the prep program at Mannes The New School of Music. I studied piano and music there until I graduated my senior year of high school. Now I am in my first year as a Music Education major enrolled at William Paterson University with a concentration in classical piano. My relationship with my teachers is what inspired me to become a music teacher myself and my passion for music comes from teaching and playing with others. I think that anyone can play music and everyone should have the chance to.
