Emmanuel T.

Honolulu, HI

About Emmanuel

I have 2 years of classroom experience teaching beginning students to quickly learn how to play the guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years, have experience performing classical and
rock music, and have the ability to teach children, teens, and adults how to read music for the guitar. I continuously seek alternate ways to explain the language of music and I add to the knowledge I've gained through several guitar and music theory courses I've taken at the University of Hawaii.

*** Lesson Details ***
In learning the guitar in a one on one environment, you will be able to learn how to understand your instrument and learn the language of music at your own pace. You will learn the basics of reading music and the necessary musical resources to be able to play classical, contemporary, and/or popular music. I will be able to cater to the necessary components that you'll need to play in whatever objective or setting that you desire, whether it is the desire for continued personal knowledge; to be able to perform in a club, at a party, or other social setting; to confidently freestyle with other musicians; the choice is yours. In a few months, you'll learn all the open chords, be able to transition between chords timely, have confidence in learning and playing bar chords, and will have gained basic knowledge of reading music for the guitar. After 6 months, you will recognize patterns for chords and the relationships between 2 or more notes that will lead you to freestyle (creating or mimicking melodies with accompaniment) through the guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: practice amp, chairs, music stand, additional seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have an electronic tuner and classical guitar. I have a portable amp if the student needs one. I expect the student to at least have a guitar of their own to practice with.

Last year, I took beginner Classical Guitar Lessons from Emmanuel and he was so helpful. He taught me tricks on how to remember the notes and frets. He also taught me a Weezer Song which inspired me to keep on playing with the strings and cords. Thank you for all the help!

Outstanding Guitar Lessons

My 10 year old daughter has taken 5 lessons from Manny so far, and it is incredible how much she has learned in such a short time. She has become much more comfortable and confident when she picks up her guitar. Manny is very organized and patient and professional. It has been extremely convenient since he travels to our home for the lessons. He's great with kids - and with us parents, too. He takes his time working at a manageable and enjoyable pace. My daughter's musical education has a great foundation, thanks to Manny, and I am beyond proud and excited to see her continued progress on the guitar! Thank you, Manny!

About April Lisette

April is a native of Albuquerque, NM and has lived in Phoenix and Tucson for the past 3 1/2 years. She is a professional actor in musical theatre as well as film and television. While on a soccer & mu
sic scholarship, she graduated from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM with a B.A in Music Performance (piano & voice).

April started playing the piano at the age of 7 1/2 under the tutelage of Mary Jobe and Flora Russo and was a 1 st and 2nd place scholarship recipient at age 11 and 12. She also found an interest in composing and has written over 30 pieces of original music in which over half were completed between the ages of 12 & 20. She started singing at a young age but didn't start taking voice lessons until college.

In high school, at the request of her private teacher, she auditioned and became apart of the Young Razzcals Jazz Project directed by Dave Adams. They produced several records in which April was a vocalist on and were guest artists at the prestigious Telluride Jazz Festival.

At 16 she began teaching piano in high school taking over the younger students when her private piano instructor was unavailable and also taught sports at the YMCA. Since then she has had over 18 years of teaching experience with young children ages 3-17 as well as group adult classes. April was also an instructor with ABQ's The Growing Stage summer musical theatre camp.

Brian J.

Honolulu, HI

About Brian

Originally I was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1979. I have been in Hawaii for 15 years now and have lived on three different Islands. I used to play for Forward Reggae band on Big Island and the Big Isla
nd music school. I have been playing guitar for 22 years. I have played live and professionally on and off for different bands in my twenties but now am a returning student at UH working on another degree in teaching, so I prefer to just teach mostly now instead of play live. I can teach and play many different styles including classical, flamenco, reggae, blues, jam band music, punk, alternative, folk, and finger picking guitar. I'm currently working on fingerstlye arrangements! I teach enough music theory to actually understand songs you personally want to learn or listen too. I teach popular rhythms and chord progressions that will give you a more fuller understanding of the guitar world and music. I specialize in working with people no matter what level and experience level currently at.
