Clayton S. Waltham, MA

About Clayton

I am a certified high school English teacher who enjoys teaching people of all ages to play the guitar and bass. In addition, I have a masters degree in music from Bates College. My educational philosophy is to focus on the goals of individual students and then develop lessons and practice routines to help to achieve these goals. I am most proficient in rock, blues, roots/Americana and jazz styles but I have an open mind and I am willing to help you tackle any form of music. I have been playing the guitar since 1995 and the electric bass since 1999, I am very easy to get along with and I am sure that I will be able to help you become a better musician. I have played guitar with the Ska band Mrs. Skannotto (2000-2003) and in various rock and blues projects since. I have been teaching

Clay does a great job teaching my ten year old daughter

As noted above, Clay is very good with a beginner like my daughter. He has a great, gentle manner, is very patient, and is clearly very skilled at playing the guitar itself. He is doing a great job!

Exceptionally thorough teacher

Robert is exceptionally thorough and starts from the fundamentals of classical guitar playing. I was an intermediate acoustic/electric guitar player but a beginner classical guitarist, so he started with correcting my right hand technique.

He is very light-hearted, funny and a cheerful teacher. Although classical guitar playing is intense, he allows me to learn at a comfortable pace and provides helpful resources (music sheets) to practice and improve.

I would highly recommend Robert if you are looking for a classical guitar teacher.

GO FOR IT and make an appointment right now!!!

I was one of Roberts first students in the 80´s. I stopped playing the guitar long time ago but I always think back to Roberts classes with a warm heart and a smile. These were good times! I learnt a lot and sure we had a lot of fun as well. It is great to see how Robert developed over the years. As a truly dedicated musician he is continuously refining his skills (while I thought he was exceptional already). Students from all levels and walk of life will benefit greatly from his allround knowledge and experience.

Outstanding classical guitar teacher

As an adult student who is very busy but still loves to play, I appreciate that Robert's wide repertoire and experience helps to make the best use of my time by targetting appropriate instructional pieces. He is a highly skilled, enthusiastic, and patient teacher.

Ehud is very knowledgeable of his profession and patient with my 7 year old boy. Ehud is very patient and flexible when needed, he has tremendous approach and goes right to the point when teaching. I can see my son's improvement week to week. I would recommend him to all students at any age and any level. Best of all he comes to teach my son right at our music room in our house.

I offer these observations on behalf of Ehud E. not as his student, but
rather as an appreciative listener--from a very unusual vantage point. I had
the great privilege of hearing one of the world's greatest bassists, Dave
Holland perform live with Miles Davis, as well as Chick Correa. Notably,
it is Holland with whom Ehud studied in a Master Class. I am doubly blessed
now to be able to continue hearing another of the world's greatest bassists,
Ehud E.--in various live performances.
It bears mentioning that having seen Ehud perform for audiences of
all ages, he has that rare ability to teach us as individuals not only to play our
instruments better, but to be better listeners, as well. He doesn't merely
'perform' for his audience members; he communicates with each of them
intimately, in his own, unique dialect of the universal language of music.
I can only imagine the joy of being his student--and the gift of being
able to witness one's own musicality come alive in the moment, while learning
at his side.

What a wonderful teacher!

Mary always made me feel comfortable singing. Since I was a beginner, she gave me a lot of exercises to do outside our lessons to continue to strengthen my voice. In the few lessons we had, she gave me a lot to think about and I definitely learned a lot. I'm already a lot more confident with my voice and, using what she taught me, I know my voice will keep growing!

So many teachers make you take lessons from scratch to see how much you have learned and go over the material again with you to fix errors. It is so boring for me!!! I hate that. I'm sure it works for some people. I like to play my hardest song and then go from there instead! He did no for met. He caught on right away, exactly where I needed help. I didn't waste hours and hours of tedious lessons that I would quit rather than have to do that same material again! Also, he breaks things down that are very complicated, to easy to understand chunks and bits to make it easy.
