Lifelong piano learner, college trained, and now teacher over the past 3 years, piano is my preferred choice of musical expression. I teach all ages (earliest 4 yrs); and customize lessons for each student depending on their personal goals and preferences. Beginners will find the lessons motivational and enjoyable. All of my students CAN DO! Lessons are logical, and based on a step-upon-step learning system. I also have success with intermediate students who may have hit the wall, or are finding difficulty moving on in their learning. I am committed to identifying that barrier (whatever it may be) and helping the pianist overcome the issue. I specifically incorporate keyboard recognition, music reading/theory, artistic expression, composition, and ear training and stress outside lesson practice.

About Joni
I am a college graduate and lifetime learner of musical artistry having 4 years practical piano teaching experience after 25 years of employment at a local higher education institution. I can engage the beginner in such a way that they will be motivated to continue into advanced and a professional level. I started my own music education at the age of 5 and have loved music ever since. My music career began in 3rd grade when I performed in a musical play and participated in vocal choral groups. I continued to improve in piano and vocal skill and traveled extensively with a national organization and a college representative team. My travels took me to Europe where I had the privilege to perform in places such as Notre Dam, palace of Versailles, the Basilica in Rome and other places. I teach any style of music from classical to gospel. I
have a strong classical background so I enjoy teaching all my students, even as young as 4 to learn about and play classical pieces (e.g. Beethoven, Bach, Mozart). Since my vocal involvement has allowed me to participate in school, church and community music groups and singing solo, I have a strong background in pianist accompaniment which is a unique skill that every piano musician should master. This creates a well rounded approach so that the pianist can participate and showcase their talent in various ways. I like to teach students to play beyond what is in the written page, and to develop a musical ear through improvisation and memorization. My students have the opportunity to play in optional recitals with other students and for family.

Ms. Joni started teaching my son piano lessons in Sep 2015. My son was 5 when he started attending her classes. It is amazing how much he has progressed in 9 months. He is able to read notes and can play with both hands. The one thing I have noticed about her way of teaching is that, she does not give up. She always tries to find a new ways to help kids learn when they are struggling. She adapts to kids ways of learning and doing things, and makes changes to help learn easily. That, I believe, is one of the reasons her classes are so effective and kids do not feel intimidated. I would highly recommend her.

I am a passionate teacher and believe in the musical potential of all students. I am eager to work your child to help unlock their abilities and motivation. It is my view that communication is a two-way road and it is excited to provide instruction while properly communicating with her students. Through this, I can overcome each individual’s obstacles and also enhance their inner strengths. With the right instruction, developing the right motivation, and of course practice, she feels every student has the potential for great success.

About Sachie
Born to an award winning conductor and music teacher, I was exposed to music at a very early age. With my father’s supervision, I began my piano and ear-training at the age of three. At age four, I joined the Yamaha musical after-school program and engaged in group lessons. As I got older, group lessons gave way to private instruction as I learned and played piano passionately through my childhood.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan and left my native land in 2006 to the United States to better my education. In school I studied general music, with an emphasis on piano. Additionally, I have also studied Early Childhood Development and Education.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my lessons depending on the age and experience level of my students, but in general I believe in the Suzuki method as one of the tools for first steps
. The Suzuki method is a very well established philosophy of learning that focuses on ear and practical training. By training ear and musicality while learning proper finger position, the child improves without spending too much time at the start learning note reading.
As the child quickly progresses I music theory and reading follow.

Students will learn how to read music and gain foundational piano skills

*all lessons are always taylored to be appropriate vocally and dramatically for age, voice type, and ability

About Serena
Hello! My name is Serena!

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

This year has been w
onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! I am proud to have won the Seattle Opera Guild/Opera Plus Young Artist Scholarship Award for the 2015/2016 season, the Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, First Place in the National Classical Singers Competition, the C.M. Gerber Scholarship, Music Dean's Scholarship, Music Faculty Award, First Place at Washington State Solo and Ensemble Competitions, First Place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) National Competitions, and many more!

Teaching brings me such joy! To share the love of music and to educate the musicians of tomorrow is both gratifying and inspiring. I have been teaching since 2005 and provide a fun and focused learning experience where there are no "wrong" questions, and everybody's unique voice is celebrated! Many of my students have gone on to study music in college, and have landed lead roles in musical theatre, choir solos, All State and All Northwest choirs, and won awards in Classical competitions.

In my spare time, I like to hike, eat good food, and spend time with family and friends!

*** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.
**Skype lessons are reserved for long distance students only**

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

*** Specialties ***
Specialties: Classical/Opera
Other styles and genres: Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pop, and Rock.

About Melissa
I have a passionate love for music and I honor the process in how the student learns by individualizing their lessons. I teach an in-depth classical study of scales and chord changes to all of my students in order to build a strong musical foundation. My students learn to play classical, worship, pop, jazz and many other styles they are open to or suggest. I also instill, teach and offer a love for improvisation to any student open to exploring the freedom of playing outside the lines.

I enjoy sharing what I know with my fellow students. I have seen the impact music has on families; it unites them like a beautiful song. Some of my students take lessons along with their parents. This creates opportunities for duets and so much more. Many of my students compliment my patience and say they have learned so much in so little time.

Li
fe with music is a journey but not only that it becomes part of your lifestyle. Being a good, dedicated student will bring so many wonderful moments and rewards as you take the journey with your instrument of choice. I have students entering talent shows, performing at assemblies, choir, open mics, musical theatre and locally for the elderly during Christmas.

Hi there! I've been playing piano since I was four, and teaching for over a decade!
In that time, I've run into a lot of former piano students who've been burned out on the instrument; people who don't play anymore because they didn't like the way lessons were structured, or didn't love what they were playing. I've made it my mission to reverse this trend by crafting lessons for my students centered around giving you the skills and techniques you need to get started playing the music you love. I've taught everything from classical showstoppers to movie themes to music from video games and anime. It's all about what kind of music you're in to!

For those looking for a more serious approach, I've helped prepare students of all ages for auditions, college or high school music programs, and even gigs as professional musicians. Let me know what your goals are and what you're hoping to achieve on the instrument, and I'll create a lesson plan to fit your needs!

About Ryan
In addition to being a piano, drum, and music software teacher for over a decade, I also work as a composer and sound designer for video games. As someone who had a lot of great teachers growing up, I think it's important to emphasize the fun in learning an instrument, instead of only focusing on technical skills or music theory (though those are big too).

There's no point in taking lessons if you don't like what you're learning. To that end, my specialty is in creating a lesson plan that revolves around getting you the skills you need to perform the music you want to play. Here are just a few examples of the kinds of pieces I've helped students learn in the past:

-I've taught students a ton of Hollywood's best movie scores on piano; everything from Pirates of the Caribbean to The Avengers. Even The Exorcist, if you're down to get scar
y!

-I've helped students learn the ins and outs of ear training by teaching them how to play their favorite anime theme songs from memory alone.

-Like classical or jazz? I've shown people how to shred on everything from Chopin to Count Basie.

-Video game nerd (like me)? There are a ton of amazing soundtracks in games, and I've taught many students how to play songs from Zelda, Halo, and Final Fantasy, as well as indie games like Undertale and Journey.

-Want to be that guy/girl that can bang out awesome Karaoke jams at parties? I've taught people to play hits by Lady Gaga, Journey, 21 Pilots, and many more.

I've worked with kids and adults from beginner to advanced, so no matter what your age, background or skill level, I'd love to meet you and chat about what you want to get out of learning music.

I specialize in beginner piano students and make sure they have a well rounded understanding of piano, the basics of rhythm, melody, and music theory. I also make sure the lessons are super fun through engaging games that reinforce theory, ear training, and various other piano skills. I am a musician and teacher living in Seattle, WA. I have been a part of many different aspects of the music world, both in Seattle and in my old home of Brooklyn, NY. I've written, recorded, and toured the world with a a variety of rock bands, I've composed music for film projects, and most recently I've begun teaching music to kids and adults of all ages and skill levels. When I’m teaching a lesson all my musical experience comes into play to create an immersive, creative, and thoughtful experience. Both my formal musical training and history of playing in bands helps me incorporate the power of creativity and improvisation into every lesson. My degree in Music Composition has allowed me to create engaging theory/ear-training games and exercises to sharpen a student's ear and musical understanding. My experience in bands over the years
ensures a focus on being able to play with others, harmony, and keeping consistent rhythm. It also helps out when learning the chords to the latest pop single! Overall, I make sure learning the instrument is fun, no matter what age or skill level the student is. After all, fun is what kept me playing music all these years!

Blake was my older son's piano teacher for the past three years, and then initiated our younger son into piano as well when he started kindergarten this fall.
I feel immensely grateful to have lucked in to having such a kind and knowledgeable teacher for our boys. Not only is Blake incredibly patient, he instilled a joyful love of music in our children. We had several other instructors, as well, so I fully realize that our experience with Blake was nothing short of exceptional.

Blake taught my daughter to play the ukelele! He has unlimited patience and really inspired my daughter to practice and play. For the recitals, he encouraged creativity and individuality and it was great to see him work with her to get a great performance. I wouldn't hesitate to have him be her instructor again.
