Beginning to Intermediate Drum lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".

It's no secret, drums is the backbone or "foundation" to any hit song.

I break down drumming to its most basic rudiments so that you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling along.

You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

About Matthew
Hi.. My name is Matt. I'm a very energetic, friendly, understanding & passionate music coach who has worked with students & clientele throughout the US. Possessing more than 25 years of music training & music industry experience, I've been able to take people's Playing to amazing levels.

In my musical travels I've networked or shared the stage with many famous NW music legends:
1.) Roger Fisher- Heart-2013 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
2.) Lynn Sorensen- Paul Rogers/Bad Co/KZOK's Spike & Impalers
3.) Donny Evola - Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche/Foghat
4.) Jeff Kathan- Paul Rogers/Bad Company/Montrose
5.) Doug Mcgrew- Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche Singer/Operation Mindcrime
6.) Update - For the last year I have been playing off and on with Rudy Parris from NBC TV's "The Voice". Season 3 - Team Blake. He is an incredible music
ian and I'm proud to call him and his manager my friends. His new album coming out is nothing short of amazing.

In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all the way and great guys as well. I"m honored to have played with them.

I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.

I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.

But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!

I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.

Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

Mathew is awesome! We did have a few problems, there was a big lag in the internet and the screen kept freezing, also the quality of the video was fuzzy, so it made it hard to see what he was showing us. I think if these problems are addressed I would give a 5 star review, for Convience if Jessen and 5 stars for Matthew and his teaching g style!

Nicholas understood where I was in reference to me knowing nothing about the guitar and he is very knowledgeable with the music trade. He was very clear and kept things simple. Wide variety of styles/genres:
e.g. Rock, Swing, Latin, etc.
Includes all snare rudiments, as well as full trap-kit exercises.
Familiarization of multiple time signatures.

About Brett
MUSIC INSTRUCTION AND
ENJOYMENT OFFERED. Very enthusiastic and
experienced musician available for instruction offering the following:

# In-depth written music theory coupled with an equivalent of ear training and tone
recognition

# Introduction to performance skills with instruments that include:

Guitar - electric & acoustic
Drum Kit and percussion rhythms
Piano/Keyboard

# Group lessons or private instruction, depending on personal preferences and age
groups

Personal
experience includes:

1) 15 years of GUITAR: professional performance
and composition. Styles include rock, folk, blues, chord
progressions, and alternate tuning.

2) 15 years of DRUMS and PERCUSSION: Latin, swing, blues, as well as rock, funk, punk, and reduced to
p forty beats.

3) 15 years of PIANO: which utilize
several years of personal instruction in classical, popular, and some ragtime,
in addition to an intimate knowledge of Piano Proficiency (scales & modes,
chord structures & inversions, common chord progressions, intervals, circle
of 5th, and finger exercises)

4) 2 years of MUSIC THEORY and COMPOSITION at college level.

Lessons will include additional materials to the primary instrument such as sheet music for
sight reading, rhythm patterns, tabletures, and chord charts.

***Above all, I encourage students to select those pieces, tunes, or songs that have appealed to them the most; perhaps even inspiring them to learn a musical instrument in the first place. Adaptations are a common and enjoyable part of the teaching process.

*** Lesson Details ***
Expect efforts, on my part, to steer learning into areas of the students particular interest as well as conventional genres such as classical, popular, folk, blues, etc...

Moreover, I rely on ear training as a strong complement to written music theory and sight-reading; often using recorded music samples or simple patterns on a piano.

I try to balance method-type published lesson books with beginner, intermediate, or original composition sheet music to specifically selected pieces.

Ideally, with a reasonable practice schedule each week, full comprehension of the written music grand staff and an ear to catch a false note will become second nature. By then, more opportunities to learn actual pieces and styles become greater, having got the initial learning curve under the students belt.

*** Studio Equipment ***
*snare drum
*electronic keyboard/piano

I'm into my second month of weekly guitar lessons with Brett and can't believe how well I am playing already!! I've had some basic guitar lessons in the past but still very much a beginner. Brett knew precisely where to start and what I needed next to advance my playing, and broke it down into attainable steps. So far I've learned a good handful of strum patterns; I can finally play two songs pretty well and sing along; and I am in the rudimentary stage of learning to finger pick. Really love the fact that beautiful sounds are coming from my instrument! Highly recommend if you're ready to make the commitment to becoming a capable player.

What a terrible experience. I signed up for lessons for my wife from Brett as a gift because he listed times that would work for my wife given that we have a young daughter, and have a hard time making time for lessons. Brett told us 3 days before the lesson that the time wouldn't work, then simply never showed for the rescheduled first lesson. Worse, he simply refused to do scheduling via email (he would leave voicemails and failed to return my wife's call when she called back as they were playing phone tag), and then told us he had another commitment during the slot we had supposedly reserved for him. Worse, he failed to update the site as he continually cancelled lessons and never showed up for scheduled times. I now have a huge hassle of getting a refund on the money I paid for lessons as opposed to a lovely gift for my wife. Life's too short and we're too busy for such an awful experience.

Professional teacher since 2008. Started with a snare drum in fourth grade and never stopped! Alumnus of University of Washington (BM, cum laude, Jazz Studies) + Roosevelt High School. I make sure to teach students what they are most interested in while also providing them with a strong musical foundation they can apply to any path.

About Evan
I love playing drums, and I love teaching others how to play drums. As a recent graduate from the University of Washington's acclaimed jazz program as well as an alumnus of the prestigious Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, I am a professional drummer and teacher with an extensive and unique set of experiences. Since middle school, I have been lucky enough to perform and tour all over the US and Europe, playing everything from house shows to esteemed competitions and festivals. In addition to being a member of several active local projects, I have performed with the Seattle Symphony; UW faculty members Bill Frisell, Cuong Vu, Luke Bergman, Ted Poor, and Marc Seales; several Cornish faculty members including Jim Knapp, Jovino Santos Neto, and Wayne Horvitz; and celebrated NYC-based players Wynton Marsalis, Tim Berne, Ralph Alessi, and Andrew
D'Angelo. Aside from that, I am a co-founder of Table & Chairs, a new Seattle-based record label, as well as a co-founder of the Racer Sessions, a weekly forum and performance outlet for new and improvised music.

I began teaching in 2008, shortly after beginning my studies at the University of Washington. My private students have ranged from total beginners to advanced, each one presenting a unique set of interests and abilities to work with. In addition to teaching my own students, I have much experience as a substitute percussion teacher at Northshore Junior High School (Kingsgate, WA) and Spotlight Studios (Woodinville, WA). I have also presented many clinics and workshops at local schools including Garfield High School, Edmonds-Woodway High School, Ballard High School, Eckstein Middle School, and Holy Names Academy, as well as for Seattle JazzED. For these, the topics covered have ranged from free improvisation to straight-ahead and big band jazz.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning players, I like to start with the books "A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum" and "A Fresh Approach to the Drum Set," both by Mark Wessels. These books do a great job of laying down the fundamentals that all drummers should learn at the outset of their education. Beyond that, what I teach depends largely on any specific path(s) the student may wish to pursue, though of course it is totally fine if the student doesn't immediately know what they would like to study beyond the basics. In that case, I would do my best to construct a rough curriculum that I think would work well for the student. The following books are all ones I have worked with and have found to be excellent at improving unique things: "Syncopation" (Ted Reed), "Stick Control" (G.L. Stone), "The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught By Alan Dawson" (John Ramsay), "Patterns" (Gary Chaffee), and "Portraits in Rhythm" (Anthony Cirone).

I prefer lessons to be focused on a curriculum, however customized it may be, as I have found that approach to be the most efficient, especially with younger players. While I believe that it is very important to learn the fundamentals of drumming, I also believe that some of the most rewarding experiences a student can have may be achieved through realizing their own unique creative potential. Thus, I find it great to set the curriculum aside for part of the lesson, either to allow the student some time to show me what else they've been working on, listening to, watching, thinking about, or perhaps to just jam and have fun. I also expect students to make progress on their own between lessons, though I understand fully from my teaching experience that the amount of progress I can expect is different for each student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two full drum kits

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, practice pad, books

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, rock, pop, many Latin and African styles, free improvisation

My teaching technique is learner-centered. I work with students to help them build a strong vocabulary of drum rudiments and have them apply their newly acquired drumming knowledge to the songs and genres that interest them most. I have found this to be ideal for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. For the advanced drummers out there, I may be able to assist with some minor application of technique or perhaps deviate from standard drumming practices to acquire a fuller awareness of the body's interaction with not only the drumsticks and drum set, but how to maintain total postural awareness.

About David
Many years of drum instruction with students who have learned best with alternative learner-centered approaches including: extreme patience, slow to fast repetition of patterns and exercises, focused breathing, as well as sight-reading, rhythm and ear training. Students with: Asperger's, Autism, Dyslexia and related states have benefited greatly.

Earlier on in my music career I found a strong passion for teaching and saw how enlightening it is to share the gift of music. I took weekly lessons from Eric for over 4 years. I had very little experience playing the drums, but a lot of desire to learn. I couldn't have chosen a better instructor than Eric.
He taught me how to read music, and always wrote out practice drills which really helped me in learning the overall lessons. Eric is extremely perceptive, and can immediately recognize what his students do well and wrong. By isolating specific parts of the lesson that causes difficulty, Eric creates drills that make learning the new part easier and more fun.
He will also play the part for you to give you an idea of how it should sound.
Because of Eric, I have learned numerous styles of drumming and the principles behind them.
Eric is a cool guy with an easy going personality, but he will always challenge you to do your best.
I strongly recommend him to anyone interested in learning how to play the drums.

I started off taking drum set lessons with Eric a little less than a year ago with almost no experience with percussion besides a basic understanding of music theory and little bit of practice with rudiments. When I started off, I could barely keep a beat and now I'm learning some really awesome Jazz patterns hoping to get into Lane Tech's Jazz band next year. The lessons usually go with review and/or a show-of-progress with the prior weeks material and then we know whether or not we should keep practicing the material or move on. If I've got it down then well move on to some new groves which he will write out for me and then show me how they sound and give me some tips for practicing the grooves for the week. I honestly have to say that Eric has been really motivating and encouraged me to keep practicing and I know I've made a lot of progress.

I've been playing drums for over 10 years now, and I love everything about it. During our lessons, I'll teach technique, but I would also love to discuss what kind of sounds you get from different drums and how to tune your equipment to your liking. My main genre is jazz, so I'd love to teach you how to improvise jazz-style, too!

About Alex
Hello!

I am a 25-year-old drummer looking to build out my private drum lessons business. I've been playing for over 10 years, and I attended music school at EWU. I often play shows around town with my band, Speakeasy.

I do not have a studio of my own in which to teach, so interested students will need to have their own drum set and space to practice in. I will bring my own kit for the lessons, if needed, as well. I am happy to come to students' homes. I have a car, so I can easily travel around Seattle and the surrounding area.

As I will need to transport and set up my equipment, I would highly prefer hour-long lessons, but I will accept half-hour lessons. Please also keep in mind that I will need time to set up and tear down my equipment, so while I will only charge for actual lesson time, I will need an extra 10ish minutes at the sta
rt and end of each lesson for equipment gathering.

I'm excited to meet you so we can learn from each other!

I teach an array of percussion instruments from Conga hand drums to Steel drums to full set drums.

About Alan
Drumming is a passion of mine since 1972 when I first started to play on my cousins drum set next door. When I entered in to High School I became the first freshman drummer in Marina High Schools history to be selected to play & tour Europe twice with their pop vocal group called the Mariners. Later I joined many professional bands doing studio recordings from 1978 to present day. I taught drums to a group of special needs kids in Ohio and that was very rewarding for me to see them drumming good and taking drumming seriously. I have been on national radio as drummer for a rock band called The Tweezers and International TV while I was the drummer/co-producer for a band called Bad Juju that was on MTV worldwide and we opened up for a well known rock group called: Living Color. I studied drumming under the direction of the legendary Joe Porc
aro privately at his home in 1981 and he taught me some amazing things about drumming in various time signatures & proper technique in drumming overall. Over the years I have work with as opening band for The Bangles, War, Shenna Easton and many others. I did two live performances with two well known guitarists. Mark Kendall who later became the founder of the super rock group Great White and also Neal Schon who was one of the founding members of the rock group Journey. Lately, I have gone back into music production for original songs I wrote for my cd called: Alan Sweet Project or "Asp Dig-it-al" and this cd will feature amazing singers and musicians selected in my city of Kent, WA. and it has already has captured amazing tracks by legendary musicians such as: Abraham Laboriel Sr., Michael Landau, and Alex Acuna with more that are interested like them to still come in as my very special guest musicians. You will be getting a good drum teacher in me that can surely show you new things if you are open minded in learning as much as I can show you. It's up to you whether you are just starting out or have been playing/performing for years. I have learned and pull from the BEST drummers alive and I am still learning at age 57 now. Anyway, hope to hear from you and happy drumming! Alan CK Sweet of Asp band/prod. feat. the REAL STARS Of Music!

So, my students will learn to play the drums in every contemporary style, but also they will come away with a working knowledge of music theory, songwriting, and music production. Having all these tools will not just make you a more valuable member of a band, but will allow you to make your own music when there are no other musicians around.

About Michael
I started playing drums at ten years old and came up through the indie music scene in the Bay Area playing in bands in high school. My teacher was adamant about the value of learning different styles, which is something that stuck with me through my years earning an AA in Drum Performance and then a Bachelors of Music from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Along the way I also learned music theory and audio production, taught myself guitar, and learned to write songs. I'm a big believer in developing multiple skills as a musician and teach all of aforementioned things in my lessons. I
not only gig as a drummer, but as a guitarist and singer. I also write, arrange, and produce my own music as well.
