Most recently, my drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, "Reflections in a Rear View Mirror" which was released in March of this year. In additional to acoustic drumming, I have extensive experience with:
- midi programming (Toontrack Superior Drummer)
- drum set recording (Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper)

About Mark
Most recently, Mark's drumming can be heard on multi-platinum selling recording artist Mark Slaughter's solo CD, 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror.'

In addition to being a full-time working drummer, Mark is guiding veteran and up & coming drummers with their musical careers both privately and at Nevada Music Academy (March 2014 to present).

Mark is currently accepting serious-minded adult students for in-home or online lessons. Drum set students are required to have access to a drum set; snare drum students are required to have a snare drum or practice pad.

*****BACKGROUND*****

With inspiration from a music-infused household, Mark began playing drums at the age of eight, shortly after relocating to Las Vegas, Nevada. Within a few short years he was performing with various school bands (stage, jazz, orchestra, marching) and o
riginal rock bands formed with musicians from the local music scene.

Mark studied classical and rudimental snare drum performance at the Murray Spivack School for Snare Drum and funk, jazz, rock and Latin drumming under the tutelage of Irv Kluger, Chuck Silverman and Richie “Gajate” Garcia.

Mark’s first big break came in 1986 when he toured with the legendary Hollywood based hard-rock band Masque, which included the famous circuit clubs in Los Angeles supporting such artists as Warrant and Poison. Shortly after, Mark spent two years performing and recording with MTV favorites D.R. Starr and the M.D.’s, securing his place as one of Los Angeles’ “go to” drummers.

Drum lessons with Mark are informative, results-driven and loud at times! “Together, you and I will develop an ‘Individualized Learning Program’ designed just for you,” says Mark. “We’ll work at your level and at your pace – and we’ll have fun doing it!” Mark has been working successfully with students as young as 5 years of age. Beginning students will be playing basic drum beats during their first lesson and playing along to songs within several lessons. Experienced students will further develop reading chops, grooves, fills and rudiments.

To date, Mark has recorded and performed with numerous rock acts and is active in the local music scene. In addition, Mark is a two-time Las Vegas Rock Hall of Fame inductee.

Mark rocks!

Mark’s incredible skill as a drummer is only matched by his abilities as a teacher. In just a short time with Mark’s instruction, I have made vast improvements in my drumming. At my first lesson with Mark, he determined my skill level and what I sought to achieve with my lessons. Almost immediately, the fundamentals Mark showed me were translating into my drumming with my band. Mark has opened doors in my playing that I didn’t know existed. Mark is incredibly patient and really cares about ensuring I receive significant benefit from my lessons. Mark really goes out of his way to make sure I fully grasp everything he shows me. I would highly recommend Mark for anyone who wants to learn from a true master at his craft and from a teacher who takes pride in his students and his teaching. Thank you Mark!!

Mark Review

I have had many different types of music teachers through out my life and Mark is by far the best. He is very serious about helping his students do what they want to do. I had specific goals I wanted to accomplish. Mark took my goals seriously and did what he could to help me understand the techniques to be a good drummer. He broke things down in to little steps that helped me to practice on my own and figure specific drum patterns out, He gave me the tools to improve myself as a musician, Mark did not have to but he chose to put a lot of his own time in to teaching me what I wanted to learn He obviously cares about his students and takes them seriously. I highly recommend him to any future students

Beginning to Intermediate Drum lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".

It's no secret, drums is the backbone or "foundation" to any hit song.

I break down drumming to its most basic rudiments so that you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling along.

You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

About Matthew
Hi.. My name is Matt. I'm a very energetic, friendly, understanding & passionate music coach who has worked with students & clientele throughout the US. Possessing more than 30 years of music training & music industry experience, I've been able to take people's Playing to amazing levels.

I've networked or shared the stage with many famous NW music legends:
1.) Roger Fisher- Heart-2013 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
2.) 2019 - I'm the Pacific NW Guitarist for Rudy Parris from NBC TV's "The Voice!" - Go Team Blake!
3.) Lynn Sorensen- Paul Rogers/Bad Co/KZOK's Spike & Impalers
4.) Donny Evola - Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche/Foghat
5.) Jeff Kathan- Paul Rogers/Bad Company/Montrose
6.) Doug Mcgrew- Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche Singer/Operation Mindcrime

In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all the way and great guy
s as well. I"m honored to have played with them.

I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.

I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.

But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!

I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.

Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

I want to make sure my students have a good time learning drums but I also want to make sure they learn a lot..! I always make sure to ask my students what they want to learn and what their favorite music is... after that, I figure out what type of lessons to plan out.

About Emerson
Thanks so much for your interest in starting music lessons with me. I’m so excited to share my passion for music with you! As Lao Tzu said: “Music in the soul can be heard by the universe."

Lesson details:
My main goal as a teacher is to help my students reach their goals. If my student wants to learn how to play rock, hip-hop, and jazz drums I believe that it's my job to teach them how to play those styles..! If my student wants to get accepted into a music school I will make sure that they are prepared for an audition whether it be for orchestral percussion, jazz drums, rock drums, etc.

What students should have:
All students should (but don't have to) have a 3-ring binder to organize handouts in...!

Things that drum students should have: A drum set, drum sticks, a drum pad, and a music stand.

Recommended
books for a beginning drum student:
Fundamentals for Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley
Elementary Snare Drum by Mitchell Peters
Encyclopedia for Reading Rhythms by Gary Hess

Things that guitar students should have: A guitar, a guitar tuner, and a music stand.

Recommended book: Hal Leonard Guitar Method (Complete Edition) by Schmid and Koch.

My specialties:

Drum specialties: Jazz, Latin (Brazilian, Cuban), African, Rock, Funk, Metal, Pop, Hip-hop, R&B, Blues, Country, Reggae, and Marching. I am proficient in drum reading, drum transcription, practice techniques, and drum rudiments and their application on the drum set.

Orchestral percussion specialties: keyboard percussion (marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, vibraphone, chimes), snare drum, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, tambourine, triangle, orchestral excerpts, etudes, technique, important literature, and practice techniques.

Guitar specialties: reading music, tablature, chords, scales, improvisation, and technique.

Wide variety of styles/genres:
e.g. Rock, Swing, Latin, etc.
Includes all snare rudiments, as well as full trap-kit exercises.
Familiarization of multiple time signatures.

About Brett
MUSIC INSTRUCTION AND
ENJOYMENT OFFERED. Very enthusiastic and
experienced musician available for instruction offering the following:

# In-depth written music theory coupled with an equivalent of ear training and tone
recognition

# Introduction to performance skills with instruments that include:

Guitar - electric & acoustic
Drum Kit and percussion rhythms
Piano/Keyboard

# Group lessons or private instruction, depending on personal preferences and age
groups

Personal
experience includes:

1) 15 years of GUITAR: professional performance
and composition. Styles include rock, folk, blues, chord
progressions, and alternate tuning.

2) 15 years of DRUMS and PERCUSSION: Latin, swing, blues, as well as rock, funk, punk, and reduced to
p forty beats.

3) 15 years of PIANO: which utilize
several years of personal instruction in classical, popular, and some ragtime,
in addition to an intimate knowledge of Piano Proficiency (scales & modes,
chord structures & inversions, common chord progressions, intervals, circle
of 5th, and finger exercises)

4) 2 years of MUSIC THEORY and COMPOSITION at college level.

Lessons will include additional materials to the primary instrument such as sheet music for
sight reading, rhythm patterns, tabletures, and chord charts.

***Above all, I encourage students to select those pieces, tunes, or songs that have appealed to them the most; perhaps even inspiring them to learn a musical instrument in the first place. Adaptations are a common and enjoyable part of the teaching process.

*** Lesson Details ***
Expect efforts, on my part, to steer learning into areas of the students particular interest as well as conventional genres such as classical, popular, folk, blues, etc...

Moreover, I rely on ear training as a strong complement to written music theory and sight-reading; often using recorded music samples or simple patterns on a piano.

I try to balance method-type published lesson books with beginner, intermediate, or original composition sheet music to specifically selected pieces.

Ideally, with a reasonable practice schedule each week, full comprehension of the written music grand staff and an ear to catch a false note will become second nature. By then, more opportunities to learn actual pieces and styles become greater, having got the initial learning curve under the students belt.

*** Studio Equipment ***
*snare drum
*electronic keyboard/piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
lesson material/music media samples can be provided for copy
student would have own instrument

I'm into my second month of weekly guitar lessons with Brett and can't believe how well I am playing already!! I've had some basic guitar lessons in the past but still very much a beginner. Brett knew precisely where to start and what I needed next to advance my playing, and broke it down into attainable steps. So far I've learned a good handful of strum patterns; I can finally play two songs pretty well and sing along; and I am in the rudimentary stage of learning to finger pick. Really love the fact that beautiful sounds are coming from my instrument! Highly recommend if you're ready to make the commitment to becoming a capable player.

What a terrible experience. I signed up for lessons for my wife from Brett as a gift because he listed times that would work for my wife given that we have a young daughter, and have a hard time making time for lessons. Brett told us 3 days before the lesson that the time wouldn't work, then simply never showed for the rescheduled first lesson. Worse, he simply refused to do scheduling via email (he would leave voicemails and failed to return my wife's call when she called back as they were playing phone tag), and then told us he had another commitment during the slot we had supposedly reserved for him. Worse, he failed to update the site as he continually cancelled lessons and never showed up for scheduled times. I now have a huge hassle of getting a refund on the money I paid for lessons as opposed to a lovely gift for my wife. Life's too short and we're too busy for such an awful experience.

Professional teacher since 2008. Started with a snare drum in fourth grade and never stopped! Alumnus of University of Washington (BM, cum laude, Jazz Studies) + Roosevelt High School. I make sure to teach students what they are most interested in while also providing them with a strong musical foundation they can apply to any path.

About Evan
I love playing drums, and I love teaching others how to play drums. As a recent graduate from the University of Washington's acclaimed jazz program as well as an alumnus of the prestigious Roosevelt High School Jazz Band, I am a professional drummer and teacher with an extensive and unique set of experiences. Since middle school, I have been lucky enough to perform and tour all over the US and Europe, playing everything from house shows to esteemed competitions and festivals. In addition to being a member of several active local projects, I have performed with the Seattle Symphony; UW faculty members Bill Frisell, Cuong Vu, Luke Bergman, Ted Poor, and Marc Seales; several Cornish faculty members including Jim Knapp, Jovino Santos Neto, and Wayne Horvitz; and celebrated NYC-based players Wynton Marsalis, Tim Berne, Ralph Alessi, and Andrew
D'Angelo. Aside from that, I am a co-founder of Table & Chairs, a new Seattle-based record label, as well as a co-founder of the Racer Sessions, a weekly forum and performance outlet for new and improvised music.

I began teaching in 2008, shortly after beginning my studies at the University of Washington. My private students have ranged from total beginners to advanced, each one presenting a unique set of interests and abilities to work with. In addition to teaching my own students, I have much experience as a substitute percussion teacher at Northshore Junior High School (Kingsgate, WA) and Spotlight Studios (Woodinville, WA). I have also presented many clinics and workshops at local schools including Garfield High School, Edmonds-Woodway High School, Ballard High School, Eckstein Middle School, and Holy Names Academy, as well as for Seattle JazzED. For these, the topics covered have ranged from free improvisation to straight-ahead and big band jazz.

*** Lesson Details ***
For beginning players, I like to start with the books "A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum" and "A Fresh Approach to the Drum Set," both by Mark Wessels. These books do a great job of laying down the fundamentals that all drummers should learn at the outset of their education. Beyond that, what I teach depends largely on any specific path(s) the student may wish to pursue, though of course it is totally fine if the student doesn't immediately know what they would like to study beyond the basics. In that case, I would do my best to construct a rough curriculum that I think would work well for the student. The following books are all ones I have worked with and have found to be excellent at improving unique things: "Syncopation" (Ted Reed), "Stick Control" (G.L. Stone), "The Drummer's Complete Vocabulary As Taught By Alan Dawson" (John Ramsay), "Patterns" (Gary Chaffee), and "Portraits in Rhythm" (Anthony Cirone).

I prefer lessons to be focused on a curriculum, however customized it may be, as I have found that approach to be the most efficient, especially with younger players. While I believe that it is very important to learn the fundamentals of drumming, I also believe that some of the most rewarding experiences a student can have may be achieved through realizing their own unique creative potential. Thus, I find it great to set the curriculum aside for part of the lesson, either to allow the student some time to show me what else they've been working on, listening to, watching, thinking about, or perhaps to just jam and have fun. I also expect students to make progress on their own between lessons, though I understand fully from my teaching experience that the amount of progress I can expect is different for each student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Two full drum kits

*** Travel Equipment ***
Sticks, practice pad, books

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, rock, pop, many Latin and African styles, free improvisation

My teaching technique is learner-centered. I work with students to help them build a strong vocabulary of drum rudiments and have them apply their newly acquired drumming knowledge to the songs and genres that interest them most. I have found this to be ideal for those at the beginning and intermediate levels. For the advanced drummers out there, I may be able to assist with some minor application of technique or perhaps deviate from standard drumming practices to acquire a fuller awareness of the body's interaction with not only the drumsticks and drum set, but how to maintain total postural awareness.

For those interested in flamenco, I have a lifetime of experience with the rhythms of flamenco, am a professional cajón player, and study/perform flamenco guitar.

About David
Many years of drum instruction with students who have learned best with alternative learner-centered approaches including: extreme patience, slow to fast repetition of patterns and exercises, focused breathing, as well as sight-reading, rhythm and ear training. Students with: Asperger's, Autism, Dyslexia and related states have benefited greatly.

I teach drum set and marching percussion, teaching for four years. I teach both tenor and snare drum for marching.

Lessons are tailored to the individual student and their experience, goals, and materials available. Having the respective instrument at the teaching location is preferred, but the minimum materials required are drumsticks, a drum pad, and a stand for the drum pad.

Drum set students should expect to learn the basics of technique and drum set-up. From there, lessons are tailored to the individual student, specifically what genres they are interested in. For beginners, I use "The Best Beginner Drum Book" by Drumeo.

Marching percussion students learn a heavier emphasis on technique, constantly being implemented into lessons. Students learn a variety of musical pieces and see technical and musical growth through each piece.

About Kevin
I've been involved in music since fifth grade loved it since! As a performer, I was heavily involved in my high school's music program being involved in: the advanced jazz band (drum set), advanced choir (baritone), musical pit (drum set/auxiliary percussion), show band (vibraphone/tenor drums), and undefeated indoor percussion (drum set/tenor drums). I've also been offered spots to play the vibraphone with the world-class Seattle Cascades Drum Corps and tenor drums with the world-class Oregon Crusaders Indoor. Currently, I perform with the Cal Poly drumline and study Music Education. As a performer, audiences love my energy and expressiveness.

As a teacher, students love my laid-back nature and patience to create a stress-free learning environment. I customize my lessons to fit individual students' goals and experience. I love teachin

I have been teaching rudimental percussion in various capacities for almost ten years, and I am excited to share my love of rudimental percussion with students in the Seattle area. Lessons with me will be heavily influenced by rudimental percussion, and students who are seeking instruction for Marching Snare, Bass, or Tenors will have an excellent time working with me to develop their hands to an advanced level. If you are looking to develop your rudimental chops or learn about your hand mechanics, I will be an excellent resource for such explorations.

Justin teaches private percussion lessons, works with Puget Sound area Percussion Ensembles, and enjoys spending time sharing his love of percussion with his students. Justin teaches marching percussion, drum set, and orchestral snare performance.

Justin was born in Seattle, and began his percussion studies at Bryant Elementary School, continued them through Eckstein Middle School, and Roosevelt High School. Justin is a Seattleite at heart, and has enjoyed growing as a performer within the music programs in the Seattle School System.

As a performer, Justin enjoyed participating in the University of Washington Husky Marching Band for five years from 2010 t0 2014, and was section leader for his last two seasons with the group. Justin was awarded the Bill Cole

Work with these groups includes instruction with a Scholastic World Class Winter Guard International Group, State Solo and Ensemble groups, and multiple area drum lines.

As a percussionist of over 15 years, Justin has a wide range of experience that will benefit students who want to expand their playing abilities from beginning snare drum and drum set, to advanced rudimental percussion. Justin loves to work with students who are pursuing their goals in high school programs, college-level marching ensembles, WGI, and DCI groups.
