Experienced and enthusiastic violin teacher of almost ten years looking for students! Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests and learning style, while also developing a solid technical basis. Beginning students start out generally with the Strictly Strings method books and are supplemented by chosen songs as they progress. Most important to lessons is for the students to feel their forward momentum and enthusiasm for learning!

About Jessica
Expect fun and relaxed lessons with an emphasis from the beginning of establishing a love and appreciation for music while developing and polishing technique!

Hello! My name is Jessi H. and I received a Bachelor’s of Art in Music from Bryn Mawr College and a Master’s of Music in Theory and Composition from the University of New Mexico. Playing with other people is a great joy and throughout my schooling and afterward, I have performed in in orchestras, chamber ensembles, pit ensembles, and in collaborations with artists in other mediums. I began teaching violin lessons during my undergraduate degree and have maintained a private studio since then, which has been full of a wide variety of students and has branched out to theory and composition.

My intention in the first few weeks of lessons is to identify the goals of each studen
t and how best they learn. While familiar with most teaching methods, I prefer to modify my style of teaching to what is effective for each student. If the student is motivated by what we are playing, then skills grow exponentially faster. Students are encouraged to perform in spring and winter recitals to showcase their progress.

After three to six months, my students can expect to have a solid foundation in the subject they are studying, a start on the repertoire or subjects of their choice, and motivation to keep going!

Learn the violin using the Suzuki method. I specialize in teaching violin to young students with no experience to beginning and intermediate levels. I strive for greater playing ability in a nurturing environment while always making a beautiful sound.

About Jared

My early childhood music education focuses the student through immersion, encouragement, small steps, and an unforced timetable for learning material based on each student's development and ability to imitate examples and internalize principles. Regular consistent practice is required and parent involvement is encouraged for younger students. Reviewing material, position, intonation, and bow techniques to always make a beautiful sound is of primary importance.

Beginner violin; also performance prep for intermediate through advanced/professional

About Darrell
Why these lessons are different:
- Formally trained conductor/composer/producer
- Individual or group session options including full band production
- A long roster of satisfied clients
- Broad base of musical styles (rock, classical, jazz, blues, metal, bluegrass, folk, theater, big band, symphonic, pop, punk, country, march, gospel, avant-garde...)
- Over 20 yrs teaching experience and work with recognized professionals including work in some of the top-rated private schools in the United States
- Over 30 years performing experience

Instrument-specific instruction:
- Voice
- Guitar [Spanish, acoustic, electric]
- Electric Bass
- Piano/Keyboard
- Woodwinds [specializing in saxophones]
- Percussion
- Brass & Bowed Strings [performance preparation only]

My process is based on (but does not adhere strictly to
) the Classical approach to Western tonal harmony and asks that the students develop certain fundamentals of technique and theory. In my experience, this structure creates the strongest foundation for pupils to build the rest of their musical lives on, whether professionally or solely for personal enjoyment. All of my students are on the fast track to studying music theory. Whatever level they are at when I start with them, I guide their efforts into bringing the students up to a certain level of comprehension regarding the mathematical aspects of music and how it relates to their instruments. This understanding of theoretical principles of sound allows the students to play any style of music they wish, no matter how their tastes may change throughout their lives.

Curriculum Gradation:
Elements of rhythm
Elements of pitch
Elements of dynamics
Elements of articulation
Reading/Writing notation
Tone development
Finding/Expanding your range
Dexterity, speed, and accuracy
How to project
How to advance to the next level
Music theory
Playing by ear
Improvisational techniques
Finding your signature style
Expression/Lyricism

My 16 year old son loves his lessons with Darrell and looks forward to them every week. He'd been taking guitar lessons elsewhere that were okay-ish, but this is so much more. Darrell is great, not only does he get along with and make my son want to learn, but at the same time they are working on voice, he is also teaching keyboard and working on the guitar! We really couldn't have asked for a better instructor.

About Kyle
Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. My specialties are piano, woodwinds, and music technology (i.e. recording and production).

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

I have 10 years of teaching experience and teach beginning to intermediate violin lessons. Violin was the first instrument I learned to play and I especially enjoy working with beginning string players. Developing a good ear for pitches and proper playing technique are extremely important for string players and I focus on these areas foremost. Each lesson is customized for the student’s age, interest, and technical level.

About Linnea
I am a freelance oboist, reed maker, and music teacher in the Seattle area. My teaching studio is currently based in Everett. I have eight years of teaching experience and love working with students of all ages. My primary instrument is oboe, but I also have a passion for teaching beginning violin (the instrument which I started on). I have a Master of Music Performance degree from Arizona State University in oboe performance and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from Whitworth University in both oboe and violin.

I had to learn the basics of violin for a film I am working on, and was only able to come in for three lessons with a Melissa - but let me just say, she was amazing! I can’t believe how far I came in just three sessions with her. She is so easy to be around and super accommodating in terms of scheduling. If I decide to pick back up with violin after I finish the film, I definitely will be back to Melissa. Thanks so much!!

I began my interest on the violin at a young age, starting at six within my elementary school. As I grew older, I became enamored with the sound and craft of the instrument, putting my knowledge into it deeply as I wished to pursue it with reverent passion. I understand the difficulties and challenges facing those wishing to pursue the violin, from money to teaching accessibility. I've seen many a great talent give up due to this. I make learning flexible but fun; engaging but technical and most of all, understanding and tailored for the individual needs of the student. I specialize in string instrumentation and have a degree in music education, working towards my master's to give the gift of music to all, especially the realm of string instruments.

About Ashley
I am currently a junior at Ramapo College studying music education but I am no foreigner to teaching. I have been teaching for some years now with general ages ranging between 3 to 25, in the violin, viola and cello. I have also taught music theory from a beginner's standpoint to a college sophomore level in conjunction with teaching said instruments. I have a passion for teaching that I love to give my students the passion of learning as teaching is not only fun, but also one of the most rewarding experiences in life as is having the guidance and educational support of a good teacher. Students can expect my 110% effort and know they can depend on me for consistency, accuracy and personalized lesson plans based on the level and goals they want to achieve. I aim to foster a supportive learning environment for my students in their hom
es or practice space of their choice as the main root of discontinuity in studies is the lack of support and passion. Feel free to contact me at anytime should any questions arise and remember, music is about having fun, so let's have fun!

Ahhhh....the seeet sound of the violin! I began teaching violin as part of a PTSA after school enrichment program. I taught for two years to high cap children from 2nd grade up to the 5th grade.

Our studies included theory, intonation, bow technique and rhythm.

I then began teaching privately to students and have enjoyed that for the last four years. I customize the lessons according to the student’s own apptitude.

I encourage participation in recitals to help build cinfidence and encourage personal growth. I do respect a students decline and we find other ways for self-confidence.

The best part of teaching is watching a student grow in their capabilities.

About Tudi
Tudi Campbell is a classically trained cellist and violinist, and customizes lessons to meet the needs of each student. She teaches beginning to intermediate on both cello and violin for all ages. Tudi believes in providing a strong background of music theory, intonation, and aiding the student in music notation. Tudi believes in building a solid foundation to assist students with performance skills.

Tudi believes that the cello and violin are for everyone, not just those interested in a professional career. She emphasizes the student's personal “voice” and style. Tudi believes in allowing the student to take part in choosing their own musical path. Tudi aims to make music as fun as possible while helping the student to mature in the skill of playing the cello or violin.

Tudi currently performs with the Evergreen Community Orche
stra under the direction of Dr. Marcin Paczkowski. Tudi also enjoys gardening, kayaking, sewing and reading.
