I love to teach students of any level from beginner to advanced. If you are a beginner, in the first few lessons you will learn how to put the clarinet together, how to put the reed on the mouthpiece, and be able to play a simple melody. I like to use the Klose Method book, and simple solos including music from film scores like Star Wars. Advanced players can work on clarinet technique and repertoire including orchestral excerpts and major solo literature. I look forward to meeting you!
About William
I am a skilled clarinetist who has had great training, and the professional career to back it up, but I am also a kind, supportive teacher who wants to work with a student in the way they need to be worked with. Whether your ambitions are modest, you want a career in music, or somewhere in between

student in music education at Georgia State University. He may be the
most deeply musical person I have ever known. My sense was that,
though he was a performer of the absolute highest caliber, he was
equally passionate about teaching.
When I initially contacted Bill to schedule lessons, I explained that
I was visually impaired. I wanted to share this information with him
upfront in the event that he had questions or concerns about teaching
me. I remember him saying clearly, “I am aware of the possibilities.”
That was all I needed to hear to feel comfortable entering his studio.
Bill encouraged me to take on any challenge in the clarinet
literature that interested me. He used every possible metaphor he
could think of to communicate ideas that were more easily accessed if
you could simply look at the printed page. He was always warm and
friendly, but focused, never wasting one second of our time together.
Following my work with Bill, I attended The University of Michigan
where, though I was a music education doctoral student, I was
instantly welcomed into one of the clarinet studios. Bill’s creative
work with me played an enormous role in making that happen. Now, I am
a community college professor, teaching a variety of classes including
a studio class for instrumental music students. I often find myself
using the same examples Bill employed with me to help my current
students. I am profoundly grateful for his unyielding commitment to my
growth when I was a student of his.
One thing I had always feared having to play some day was the opening solo to Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. A former teacher had been unable to help me with it. So, when a band I was playing with scheduled the piece and told me to get ready to play the solo, I was traumatized and contacted Mr. Rappaport for help. He worked with me and not only got me playing the opening glissando, but helped me to have a better understanding of the other jazzy spots in the piece. So now I can say I’ve performed that piece about 20 times, and the fear is gone! Thanks, Mr. Rappaport!
Regardless of your level of playing, I think you will find Mr. Rappaport to be an outstanding teacher!
Anyone who has ever heard me play has always complimented me on my clarinet tone. I can honestly say that my clarinet tone is the direct result of Mr. Rappaport's methods and his gentle but very stringent guidelines. If you are looking for someone to take you or your child to the highest standard of musicianship, look no further. I highly recommend lessons with Mr. Rappaport. Kim C.

I love taking students and providing them with performance opportunities, whether it be for local open mic nights, auditions, or for fellow studio members. My ultimate goal is to have my students perform so that our work comes to fruition. Once we get to the point of performing we will rehearse with an accompanist and practice the techniques used for performing in whatever venue it might be.

Hello! It's a pleasure to 'meet' you. I'm David and I've been teaching voice since 1988 from the college level all they way down to little kids! My main goal is to see you singing songs you love, using great vocal technique. I am very supportive and work with beginners through advanced students. Your outcome from lessons with me will be having vocal freedom and confidence in what you are doing. And it will be fun along the way.
Jazz is my specialty (I work constantly as a professional singer in this field), but I am comfortable in musical theatre, 'Classical' and pop/R&B. I am also an expert with young voices (and it's important, because they're different).
Ready to shine? Let's get started!

I am writing a review from a couple of different perspectives, as I've received lessons from Ryan in a number of capacities. I am an intermediate-level bass player who received his initial music theory training from Ryan, and his explanations were clear and concise.
Recently, I've become a geography professor at the University of Akron, and I teach a variety of topics, including Introductory Cultural Geography. Part of this involves looking at how different types of music spread throughout the world. Ryan created an excellent video that supplemented my lecture; he thoroughly, yet very clearly, described how the spread of the minor pentatonic scale contributed to the development of heavy rock and metal music across the globe. Without this insight, my lecture would have been less accurate, as well as less entertaining to the students!
As a stringed-instrument player and a professor who includes music geography and history in his classes, I highly recommend lessons with Ryan. His descriptions and instructional method are outstanding (please see his excellent video series, "Swing's Shred Tips" on YouTube), and he also clearly demonstrates a deeper knowledge about music. Rather than just playing fast to shred, he will teach the underlying ideas behind the music to improve your playing (as he clearly demonstrated in his custom lecture on geography/history in my class). Highest possible recommendation!"

Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Stevie Wonder—so many names top the list of influential piano players in music history. But for a while there, as dance, metal, and grunge took center stage, piano was relegated to the sidelines. One artist who changed that, however, was Ben Folds. When he hit the scene with his band Ben Folds Five in the mid-90s, a new musical sound emerged—pop heavily infused with piano. Who is Ben Folds? Ben Folds grew up in in North Carolina listening to piano grea …
