About Tom
I have had a varied background growing up, from being an Eagle Scout, to holding a black belt in Judo.  Growing up in Arizona and being the youngest of three boys from a very musical family, I found classical music and it became my passion. I began with piano at age 9, while also sang in many church musicals. In 2006 I graduated from Northern Arizona University with two degrees: a bachelors in vocal performance and a bachelors in piano/choral education. At NAU, I sang in many operas and piano recitals and spent three months in Germany teaching choir through the Department of Defense.Shortly after, I graduated with a masters in vocal performance from Washington University in St. Louis. The studies I learned from Wash U catapulted my love for teaching!Recently, I have been teaching out of St. John School of the Arts, where I worked with v
oice and piano students ages 7-60. All of my students had varying styles, but I was able to help them build a foundation of technique that would allow them to sing with a free and healthy tone in any style.I believe we all have the ability to create music and I can help you discover it!

*** Lesson Details ***
My goal in voice lessons is first and foremost to establish a solid vocal technique.  My philosophy is "singing is simple, but not easy!"  We will focus mostly on two things: breath and space for singing.  This method of teaching is known as "bel canto".  It helps build a strong foundation that then allows you to sing almost any style!  Because everyone is different, we will tailor a set of exercises to fit your needs and will help you build that strong foundation!  Once these principles begin to settle in, we will work on music.  I have a huge library of songs to chose from, but I highly encourage you to bring in your favorite songs. Remember, everyone is different and progresses at different rates, but don't be discouraged! This is not a race, but a life skill that you will continue to master!

In piano, I am classically trained.  Through a series of music books, we will work on music theory, finger dexterity, music history, ear training, eye/hand coordination, and pure enjoyment of making music. Again, everyone is different, but with some outside commitment, you will improve! Classical piano training is a great foundation for all other styles, such as jazz, pop, singer songwriter, country, etc. Piano also helps with in other aspects of your life such as memory, math, history, reading, etc.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a full size keyboard and music stand.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please provide a piano, music books, music stand (if needed), and a lesson book for notes.

*** Specialties ***
I am a classically trained baritone specializing in bel canto. I have found this technique to be a great foundation for all styles of singing, from opera to pop. I am also classically trained at the piano. I focus on natural hand positions, note identification, music theory, and ear training. And I have fun doing it!

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this experience. I thought a singing lesson over the internet would be choppy or tinny, but the audio and visual quality was quite good. Tom, the teacher, knew his stuff, too. If I had one change to make it would be to have a way to provide information about my goals/aims of the helpout beforehand. Tom was quite a good opera singer, but I was looking to get some basics on some less lofty stuff. I still learned a couple of good solid concepts as a beginner, but I felt a little embarrassed. Overall, though, 4 stars for the technical quality and knowledge of the teacher.

From classical, opera, Broadway, jazz, pop and more, I'm here to help you sing beautifully!
With about 5 years teaching experience, and over 10 years of study and performing experience, I am excited to share what I know to help you reach your vocal goals and expand your talents! I have a Bachelor of Musical Arts with a vocal emphasis from Brigham Young University-Idaho, where I studied Opera as a coloratura soprano, Jazz, participated in Broadway and Pop productions, and much more. In my class we will build upon a classical basis, some basic theory, and then delve in to the vocal styles that fit to your voice and interests! In a fun and safe learning environment, we will discover the best voice within you :)

About Stephanie
Originally from Dallas Texas, I moved to Rexburg and graduated with an BMA in Vocal Studies and Performance along with a minor in Business Management from BYU-Idaho in the Spring of 2016. With over 12 years of private voice lessons and several years of teaching, my love and knowledge for music has grown immensely.

I LOVE teaching voice. I have worked with kids, teens and young adults from ages 5-27, including students with special needs. Over the course of our classes together, students can expect to improve their vocal techniques and skills significantly. Their knowledge of music, key terminology and theory will also increase.

During my studies, I was featured in several solo performances and roles such as Filia in Carissimi's oratorio Historia di Jephte, Agatha in scenes from the opera Der Freischutz, featured soprano soloist in M
ozart's Vesperae Solennes De Confessore (including performance of Laudate Dominum with famous pianist Alpin Hong), and many others.

My goal as your teacher will be to use my knowledge and skills to enhance your vocal talents to their peak potential. We will conquer any vocal plateau's, stage fright and confusion you may have and become a true, strong performer. I look forward to working with you!

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT DAVE:

Born in the city of Rock n Roll (Cleveland) David (Dave) a.k.a. "Blaq Pavarotti" was destined for music success. Son of a Gospel singer, nephew of a nationally celebrated radio announcer and gold selling BMI award winning writer, and Grandson of a man who once sang for President Roosevelt what else was he to do. His future was preset like a wedding between two royal families. Starting at age 4 he began singing in the church and eventually directed the children's choir. By the age of 15 Dave was summoned to become a
part-time radio announcer under his Uncle Lynn. This brought instant success to a teenager in his junior year of high school. For 16 years he would successfully lock down the #1 spots of any time slot he held. During his radio tenure Dave also spent a stint in the Virgin Islands as co-host of the Big Fat Morning Show. During those radio days he would go on to interview some of music's biggest stars from Martin Lawrence to L.L. Cool J, break major records, and work every shift in 5 different formats. The world of the music for Dave started with a bang as the late great Gerald Levert handpicked Dave and Jason Champion for Men At Large whom later would contribute to music history and topping charts and selling millions of albums. As well as singing Dave has appeared in over 26 stage plays, 9 movies as well as a host of judging, and hosting appearances across the country. He often takes time to mentor young artists who are trying to fInd their way in the biz with helpful advice or intuitive vocal and staging techniques. To date he has released 2 acclaimed solo albums. "Blaq Pavarotti " 2009 and "SomethinLikeTheGreatest" 2015 which yielded the top 4 single "Home". Home was also placed on TV shows "Single Ladies and "Scream Queens". Being a trendsetter for the plus sized and his love for looking and smelling nice Dave is starting a unisex vest line called "Invested". Vests in his eyes can be worn for all levels of events and can also be used as bulge hiders, which is the main reason for his passion for wearing vests.

Through it all Dave is a survivor and refuses to change his style for the watered down stylings of today'

I teach piano students of all different ages mostly beginner piano. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the
