Through my experience as a youth ambassador to the island of Shikoku, studying at University in Tokyo, tutoring Japanese as a Resident Assistant for 2 years and working at a Japanese contemporary art gallery, I feel with my diverse set of experiences I am able to clearly communicate and make either setting a new foundation or building off one a fun experience!
I began learning Japanese at 15 years old where I studied as a Rotary Ambassador in an agriculture village for one year. Having never studied the language prior and in a small community with no English speakers - I feel I created some unique and fun ways to learn a language and really make it stick!
Although with my experience now working bilingually at a Japanese company, I am also conformable helping students with a good foundation of the language already deepen their understanding.
I am able to teach reading, writing and speaking!

About Kyoko
My name is Kyoko. I am a native speaker of Japanese, born and raised in Japan. (As you might guess, my name came from the beautiful city of Kyoto.) When I was in college in Osaka, Japan, I started helping a lot of exchange students with their Japanese. Since then, teaching Japanese has been my

I felt embarrassed to seek help to learn Japanese, because after many years of living in Tokyo for my work, I only knew a few small communicating words here and there... arigato, genki etc... and the writing, well that was 'impossible' to read for me!!
Kyoko was very understanding and made me feel completely comfortable about learning the Japanese language from the beginning. At almost 40 years old and trying to push my brain into learning something new, this was challenging and made me nervous at times. But Kyoko is an amazing teacher and when I finished a lesson with her, I was so proud with what I had accomplished and she made me feel empowered and more driven. I can now understand words in hirigana!! It is amazing to me.
I thank Kyoko so much for her help and support with the lessons we had together :) I will do my best.

Kyoko is extremely knowledgeable and is authentically Japanese born and raised in Japan but has lived in the U.S. for awhile now and is natively fluent in English for parents who may not understand Japanese. Her communication and timeliness are amazing! I’d recommend her to any of my friends and family - and have.

Ever since I discovered Dragon Ball Z on Toonami back in the early 2000's, I have come to develop a love of all things Japan, specifically anime and J-pop. My experience with learning Japanese started back when I started studying at home with my older brother back in 1999 or so, and then started studying Japanese at college, which culminated in the completion of a minor in Japanese as part of my BA. I have also visited Japan one time to visit my older brother who was teaching English over there at the time. I love Dragon Ball (among many, many other anime) and T.M. Revolution.

During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a president of SUNY Albany Japanese Student Association and also worked as a TA for Japanese 101 classes, and I absolutely love to teach languages! I understand it is often very hard to find a language tutor outside of the spoken community, and I hope to provide you with the opportunity to be exposed to authentic media sources to acquire natural fluency. Hope to hear from you soon!
