Learn your favorite songs, grooves, jams and tunes! The first few lessons are about establishing good ears, good time feel, and a few fundamental techniques for the left and right hand. After that, it's all about tunes and the kind of music you intend to play.
Lessons include ear training, rhythm, performance techniques, a personalized tune list, in addition to common bass practices. Optional courses of study include improvisation, music theory, composition, arranging.

About Jordan
*Heads Up! I'll be on tour with Brian Setzer for November and December and will only be available for online lessons :)

1. All my students feel like rock stars! Each lesson is fun and enriching.
2. I provide a clear lesson plan complete with goals, achievement levels, and performances.

*Experienced teacher and professional musician.
*Has performed with:
The Brian Setzer Orchestra, Great Good Fine Ok, 10,000 Maniacs, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra.
*Recorded on national tv ads including Coca-Cola, Dreyer's, KFC.
*Over 7,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
*More than five years of classroom teaching experience in San Diego and Miami-Dade public schools: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college jazz ensembles
*Students have inclu
ded: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from around the world.

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Students get a minimum of one lesson per week. I am not able to schedule lessons every other week.

Recommendations for best results:
1. Make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons.
2. Practice at least three times a week, for a minimum of 15 minutes each time.
This formula virtually guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policies:
No Cancellations. If the student is unable to attend a lesson as scheduled I will use the time to email a video lesson to the student. Other alternatives: online lesson, reschedule, add time to next lesson (based on availability). Students may put lessons on hold up to once per quarter with at least one week notice.

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

You can expect a laid back, yet focused environment. Most of all, you can look forward to progress! Hope to see you soon.

Funk, slap, walking, in-the-pocket. All strange terms that you'll need to know. Let me show you how to put down the foundation to most musical styles from rock to r&b or even metal!

About Ian
I started playing guitar originally in 1991. I picked up bass and ukulele (and then gradually a plethora of other instruments) over the ensuing years. I started teaching in 2001 throughout the Chicagoland area. First in music stores, then schools, then people's homes (including mine) and then online (live via Zoom).

Besides teaching and performing, I also ran an all ages music venue and recording studio from 2006-2015.

Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn. There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating

*** Lesson Details ***
All lessons start with the basics (assuming the student doesn’t already know them). This includes: reading music and chord diagrams, understanding rhythm, basic music theory, etc. Meanwhile, we will apply this knowledge to songs of the student’s choice- this wa
y they’re learning songs they like, and more about the instrument and music at the same time. As time goes on we’ll get into playing lead, advanced theory, songwriting and more.

Above is the plan, but I am always open to suggestions from the students as well. As long as they are learning, I am happy. In all reality, we can spend years on just one of the many paths you can go down with music- so I am always continually re-checking on the student’s current and up-to-date goals.

*** Specialties ***
Patience. I feel like it is necessary to be a good teacher. Other than that, I am very confident in my teaching skills. I love so many genres of music that its hard to say where my best talents lie. But no matter what the style, I will say one thing that I have always been strict about is proper technique and rhythm. I feel like timing is something that a lot of musicians take for granted and often have to learn the hard way later on. I try to incorporate it soon after a beginner's first lessons.

Ian is an incredible teacher. Very patient and professional. The way he teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. I can’t wait to learn more & more... less than a week has passed since my lesson. I already feel so comfortable with my ukulele,
All the utube lessons were useless for me. I realized this after 1 lesson with Ian. The frustration factor on utube was a waste of time for me. I am so happy I chose ian & this company.
Thank you so much, jen

great teacher for popular acoustic guitar

Ian is a no nonsense well organized guy. He taught me using exercises he wrote out on paper mostly in tabulature form. He used a metronome from the first lesson and always introduced a music theory concept such as rhythm, pentatonic scales, and chord transposition. He will not move past any exercise until you can demonstrate proficiency so there is no choice but to draw your own conclusion that you need to practice more if you want to progress. He teaches out of his local all ages music venue, or will travel to your home.

Come learn about the different kinds of bass playing.. two-feel, walking, bossa and more! Bass is essential to my passions and understandings of music as it was (along with guitar) my first instrument, and I studied electric bass performance in Boston.

About James
*PLEASE NOTE: I don't travel to Bellevue, Mercer Island or anywhere that requires me to drive over I-90 or the 520 bridge. Sorry! 3 miles is my maximum distance of travel, and please take note of the time slot I have open (usually just a few).

I've been exploring music since age 13 when I started on guitar and electric bass. I've gigged around the Puget Sound area for over a decade and am passionate about many styles of music. I've played in jazz and blues ensembles while studying music in Boston and Seattle. I perform my own music. I play acoustic and electric guitar, electric bass, ukulele, mandolin, piano, drums and I sing.

*** Lesson Details ***
Required Accessories: Music Stand, 3-Ring Binder, Sheet Protectors

Chords, scales and finger-picking are the three areas of guitar, ukulele and mandolin playing which I have my stu
dents work on each week (the areas for bass are; scales and the different types of bass playing methods). The format for my sheets is done in traditional music notation with a mix of tablature - the standard presentation for guitar books. Sessions are also divided more or less in half between working on fundamentals and working on songs. Music appreciation, learning to play with other instruments and play-alongs with recordings are also a part of my teaching platform. Students are encouraged to give song suggestions for learning, and it's one of my favorite aspects of being an instructor! My YouTube channel has some Student Favorites playlists with the most memorable and effective songs I've been teaching over the last decade. Cheers!

James was awesome! I took a series of 10 at home lessons that really boosted my bass playing. He used a combination of learning with music that I could play along to as well as practice chord tones and other more classical learning tools. I would recommend him to anyone that wanted to build their skills.

Thanks James!

I've been a musician all of my life. I have a music education degree and have performed in professional ensembles. I've played bass guitar in a funk rock band, covering many Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, as well as others from the 90's.

I currently focus my energy on the acoustic guitar, however I feel very comfortable playing and teaching introductory and intermediate skills on the bass, including techniques in finger picking and slap bass techniques.

Curriculum will include technique, styles discussion, songs, and performance.

About Joshua
I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.

Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.

The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.

I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.

Through my healing journey, I've developed patience, insight, and understanding for my students' learning processes.

I'm excited to help you incorporate new skills into your life!

I am happy to teach intermediate to advanced students who want to improve their capacities as a musician. You can expect a regimented lesson plan that will help you reach your goals in an efficient manner if you are willing to put the time and effort in.

For my students, the necessary foundation consists first of knowing all seven modes of the major scale across the entire fretboard in all 12 keys, all barre chord shapes, and the ability to read standard music notation. If these fundamentals are not mastered at the time of the first lesson, half of the lesson will be dedicated to teaching them, and the other half will be dedicated to learning one song that a student will commit to learning for that group of lessons.

Once the fundamentals are mastered, the entire lesson can be dedicated to becoming fluent in whatever style(s) they desire to play at an advanced and professional level at. This is done through transcriptions of bass parts from records, analyzing transcriptions, ...

The Bass is probably my second favorite instrument to play, you really can control the groove and the song along with the drums. Lessons include technique, scales and patterns, holding down the groove, forming the song around you, playing more than the root note, and playing the song.

About Eric
MUSIC!
I think music is the most beautiful thing in the world, so lets take time to learn and play music together.
I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years, and been in over fifteen bands in the course of that time. I have a degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music were I studied music theory and focused on Music Production and Engineering. I have been playing Piano, Bass, and Guitar for about ten years in addition to the drums, and have been recorded in sessions on each. I have a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music, so lets make some bleeps and bloops together.

I am extremely kind, friendly, and funny so lessons with me are very relaxed and have an easy to learn environment. However I am very passionate about teaching to fit student needs; so if a student likes deadlines and homework, if that is w
hat will help them learn the best, then that is how I will teach.
Lets make some sweet music together!!
