It was an honor and a pleasure working with Gwen. Due to personal circumstances, I had to stop working with her, but I highly recommend her as an instructor. She's very knowledgeable, accommodating, and made me feel comfortable. You'll find yourself in good hands with her.

Bgcheck Background Checked

Private Flute Teacher

Winner of the 2017 Outstanding Musician Award at Bloomsburg University, Steph is excited to teach students of all ages who want to improve their playing! She wants to help students learn and develop their fundamentals: tone, articulation, sight-reading, posture, etc. She would also be delighted to teach a student who is an absolute beginner! We will work out of flute methods books, etude books, and/or specific repertoire picked by the student.

About Steph

Hello! My name is Steph and I can't wait to hear you play! I will absolutely enjoy teaching you regardless of your age or playing ability. :)

Beginner students: We will mostly work on pieces out of Kathy Blocki's flute method books as well as exercises composed by myself to make sure your fundamentals are solid from the beginning. Plan on learning new notes and rhythms each lesson as well as having scale and playing assignments. You will learn a lot each week while having a super awesome time :)

Intermediate students: We will be working on honing the fundamentals (tone, technique, articulation) through various etudes and intermediate solo pieces, depending on playing level. Vibrato will be introduced as well as phrasing, breathing, and everyone's favorite: intonation! Weekly assignments will include memorizing scales and preparing a

ll pieces covered in lessons. Prepare to take notes and laugh frequently at my jokes!

Early-Advanced students: We will learn about body awareness and work on playing without tension. We will work on developing tone colors (warm, sweet, bright, hollow, etc.), developing technique through daily exercises, as well as further developing the fundamentals. We will work on repertoire for your auditions, more advanced solo pieces, etudes, and technical exercises. Weekly assignments will include practicing at least 45 minutes per day to have material fully prepared for the lesson. You will get really good at taking notes!

Always remember: You will get out of lessons what you put into them! The magic always happens during practice. The more you practice, the more I am able to teach you, and the better you will play!

Private Flute Teacher

I have experience teaching flute lessons to everyone from ages 5 to adult and from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. My students have won local competitions and been admitted to the music programs at universities such as UNT. I like to make sure that each student's practice comes from a place of mutual respect and understanding and I emphasize clear communication in practice expectations as well as when explaining playing concepts. I am a patient teacher and questions are encouraged!

About Cassie

I am an active teacher and performer newly returned to the Seattle area after a decade away. I have a BM from the University of Oregon and an MM from the University of North Texas, both concentrated in flute performance.

I recently spent three years in Texas and had a studio of 35 middle and high school flutists who under my tutelage improved their skills, gained new appreciation for music, won local competitions (one received a brand new professional flute for her award!) and one received an offer to attend UNT to study music for their undergraduate degree.

I also pursue an active playing career, but I am especially focused on teaching.

Please message me before purchasing lessons! TakeLessons does not allow messages between you purchasing and me accepting the new lessons. I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you/you

r child meet their flute goals!

Private Flute Teacher

Would you like to improve your technique and gain confidence? How about choosing and mastering music for regional solo competitions? Perhaps you're pursuing flute for enjoyment and want to brush up on your skills? You've found the right teacher! My approach to instruction is one where the student learns how to maximize their practice time to achieve both technical perfection and soulful musicality that opens doors on their musical journey.

About Grace

I started playing the flute in fifth grade unaware that I would fall in love. I continued through middle and high school playing in Jazz and Concert bands, the college community band, and on the worship team at church. Learning different styles and excelling in what I enjoyed most became serious, fast, when I received a Command Performance distinction as a high school freshman at our regional solo and ensemble competition. Later I was accepted to and attended Berklee College of Music as a Flute Performance major. I enjoy performing at conferences and local jam sessions, and volunteering to play for the elderly.

Working on challenging music opened doors for me.

Getting flute lessons myself taught me how to practice

Music became a powerful form of self-expression. What will it do for you?

Flute Reviews

Eamon G
"I took lessons with Frannie for more than ten years, starting at age 4 in an introduction to music class at the Brooklyn Music School. Through her I foun
d not just a great love for music but a lens through which I discovered and learned about the world. With Frannie, once a week for nearly my entire childhood, I would learn to practice and work at a piece or phrase, or to interpret and have and opinion on music I played, or to play like I mean every note, and so on endlessly. Those skills were some of the earliest and most important lessons I had about how to live and enjoy my life, and art, and how to work hard, and care about what I do for my own sake and no one else's. And I don't believe just any teacher could have done that for me. Since moving on I have often felt a different excitement and deep understanding of music than many of the peers I met who have spent far more time than me studying music.

I'm still a musician. I graduated recently from Bard College with a degree in music and have since played onstage in a very successful off-broadway musical. I've played in many orchestras including with graduate & conservatory students at Bard, with the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra, and at LaGuardia High School (formerly Music & Art). I have moved on to other instruments, and forms of music, but I credit Frances not just for showing me how much I love music but for teaching me in many ways how to enjoy and get what I want from life. I can't recommend her enough."
"Alexia is wonderful teacher. My daughter learns a lot. She is always on time, and ready to teach her new things. Isabella is happy to have her as a tea
"Heidi is an incredible teacher for many reasons. I have been very remiss in writing this much deserved review for her. Heidi connected with our 9-yr-old
on an amazing level. She worked with us in every way she could to accommodate for our 15-hour time difference every time we were in China and then happily changed to the 2-hour time difference while we were at home in the states. Heidi's love for music oozes out her. She is extremely talented and lovely to work with."
"Tyreese is a great instructor. He understands what my needs are as a beginner, As an older adult I am learning how to study all over again. Tyreese is pa
tient and giving me the confidence to be great at playing my flute. One of my many dream goals is learning the flute. You’re never to old to learn new things!"
"A very patient and forgiving teacher! She explains subjects well and always knows exactly what to talk about next. She is also very kind and polite!"
"Leanna is smart, conscientious and skilled. I recommend her without reservation."
"She is the best I have had.

Ms. Heidi helps even with your stubbornness. She'll never give up on you no matter what. Even with my annoying 13 teens she n
ever gives up. I keep missing, wrote tone, and wrong fingering but she'll help until she can't anymore. I believe she is the best. I love her!"
