I started playing violin with the Suzuki method at age 5. I have been teaching violin to ages 4 to adult for over 8 years. While not a concert or symphony level player, I have been providing quality lessons and guidance to beginners and intermediate players of all ages and interest for years. As with all of my lessons, I provide a core curriculum as well as custom tailor to the student's needs and interest. From Bach and other Suzuki classics, to modern favorites like Pirates of the Caribbean or Lindsey Stirling.

Welcome to my violin and viola studio! I believe that every student can enjoy the process of studying an instrument, and can learn to play with ease and joy. As a result, I work to determine each student's learning style, look for ways to encourage individual ownership of learning, and adapt my approach to help meet each student’s needs and goals. I teach both Suzuki and traditional lessons, and draw from a variety of musical styles and approaches to help students develop a broad range of skills that include a strong technical foundation, ear training, sight-reading, ensemble playing, and musical self-expression. Through this approach, I hope to help students develop a lifelong love for music that will serve them in all future endeavors, musical or otherwise.

I have 10 years of teaching experience and teach beginning to intermediate violin lessons. Violin was the first instrument I learned to play and I especially enjoy working with beginning string players. Developing a good ear for pitches and proper playing technique are extremely important for string players and I focus on these areas foremost. Each lesson is customized for the student’s age, interest, and technical level.

About Linnea

I am a freelance oboist, reed maker, and music teacher in the Seattle area. My teaching studio is currently based in Everett. I have eight years of teaching experience and love working with students of all ages. My primary instrument is oboe, but I also have a passion for teaching beginning viol

Where do I begin. Kathleen is extremely patient with me and very encouraging. I have loved the violin for a long time. However, over the years I would get discouraged and quit. With Kathleen, I look forward to our sessions. She's very knowledgeable and I like that she will play along with me and send audio clips that reinforce the place where I struggle. I have learned so much in such a short period. She's a keeper! I'm truly blessed to have her in my (music) life. Thank you so much Kathleen.

Have you been playing for a long time, or have you never picked up the instrument before? Whether you are a child or an adult, I have a style of teaching for you. I've been playing since I was a child and have a special place in my heart for the is instrument. I actually began learning from a fiddle player and trained classically later. If you want to learn how to succeed in playing this rewarding and satisfying style, this is the place for you.
Are wondering why every time you hit a certain note, it squeaks, or crunches, or sounds glassy? Or maybe you can't quite read the notes. Perhaps you are no stranger to the instrument, but need improvement of musicianship, expression, etc. Let me help you master the skills you're trying to achieve. With my help, you can make breathtaking music!

About Kimberly

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam an

I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!

I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)

Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

I am an advanced level player with 15 years of private lesson teaching. I am encouraging and positive with my students, but I also emphasize good listening and practicing strategies. I have a BA in Music Education, Instrumental Orchestra and Band. I also play the flute and piano. I follow a repertoire recommended by the American String Teachers' Association. I am planning a small recital in May for my students, and a focus would be on technique and toward a performance solo piece with accompaniment. This is a great way to showcase your talent! We can also work on orchestral parts if needed.

"Nicole is extremely upbeat, joyous and fabulously encouraging

I love Nicole's joyful presence and very encouraging manner. She's talented and works with me to ensure that I get over my insecurities as a new player and enjoy the experience. Also love that she's very attuned to the physical toll that playing and performing takes and takes the time to explain the need for and the how to of exercises that will help me avoid injury or pain and to make my playing more toneful. I am very happy that I got to be one of her students. Oh, and she's been very good at accommodating my schedule and working with me when medical or travel needs interfere with my regular lessons."

Are You Making the Most of Your Violin Practice?

Gifted musicians don't appear from nowhere fully-formed and ready to take to the concert platform.  For every 45-minute concerto or 90-minute recital you hear, hours of hard work have gone into every note, every phrase, and even how the music is approached, learned, and memorized! It may seem strange to say that proper practice is the most nerve-wracking element of mastering your violin, but if you don't know how to structure the session, how can you ever be sure that you're working on the rig …
