About Edwin
Hello! Thank you for your interest in taking guitar/piano/music lessons.

I am a professional teacher/studio musician/performer/producer with over 17 years of private teaching experience and a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music and Jazz program in 2002 specializing in the guitar.

I am available to teach guitar(acoustic, electric, classical) for all levels, ages, and styles(pop to folk, rock to soul, world to classical) in English, Spanish and Japanese.

Other subjects taught include bass guitar, piano/keyboard, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, harmonium, classical percussion, music theory, composition(all styles from pop to classical), ear training, and studio production/engineering/mixing.

Born in Cali, Colombia on April 1979, I began my musical endeavors studying the piano at the age of 6. Early on I had the opportunit
y to play percussion in the school symphony while at the same time developed an intense interest in the instrument that would become my true love, the guitar.

During 1996-98 I studied jazz guitar at the New World School of the Arts music program under the direction of J.B. Dyas and Dr. Roby George. Upon graduation, I was immediately accepted to the University of Miami jazz guitar program under the direction of Randall Dollahan. It was during this time that I also refined my skills as a classical guitarist and as a composer/arranger. In addition, I began passing my knowledge onto friends and eventually began working as a teacher.

My ability to play almost any genre of music is the fruit of past experience playing with an impressive variety of music groups, including jazz combos, symphony orchestras, Andean world music ensembles, and several rock and pop groups as well. As a studio guitarist I have recorded for various artists including Jaci Velasquez, Carlos Ponce, Alexandre Pires, and Noelia.

Every one of you is unique and there are many possible paths to reach your goals in music.

With my background and music industry experience, I am able to customize my lessons for you so that you can reach your desired goals. We will take some time to find out where your passion lies in music and I will use my experience and knowledge to create a customized lesson-plan that will allow us to focus on reaching your desired goals and at the same time maintain a well rounded music education.

I find this to be key in making the lessons and your practice sessions very enjoyable, fun and laid back - knowing that everything we practice, play and talk about is in line with your goals as a student.

I will also be playing along with you and demonstrating everything that we're working on - music is meant to be shared and played with others and it is important to have that experience of interaction from early on in your lessons.

So whether it's learning to accompany yourself or others, write songs, read music, understand harmony, solo, or just jam out to your favorite songs, you will be well on your way to reaching your goals within 6 months of my lessons.

Look forward to making music with you!

Edwin is very knowledgeable about music. He is a very adaptive to players of all skill sets and have guided me though the basics when I was once a beginner. He provides insight to the difficult questions that I come across over the years of playing guitar. He especially helped me understand music in a much larger scale. Overall, he is a well rounded teacher that is patient and supportive with his students.

My lessons are tailored to the specific goals of the student and each lesson has its differences. However, a typical guitar lesson might entail the following: on your first lesson goals are set, this would include songs you would like to learn and play, as well as any technical and theoretical problems you would like to overcome. Next comes the development of an individualized plan on how to achieve those goals. The student then leaves with a clear understanding of specific tasks and a focused practice plan to prepare for the next lesson. It's important to remember that all lessons are presented with great clarity and simplicity so that the student stays engaged by having fun as they progress.

About Mike
I am a GRAMMY® Nominated Music Educator who easily combines the worlds of deeply-rooted academic study with a well-textured performance resume. His unmatched perspective on fretboard education has something for everyone. He presents a fascinating and revolutionary clarification of traditional guitar and bass methods which provide many valuable and illuminating insights designed to simplify the learning process by solving the inherent problems of modern musical notation as they are applied to the fretboard.

I enjoy the feeling of satisfaction I get from knowing that I have helped my students achieve their music, guitar and bass goals. In the same way that I have been and continue to be helped by competent and capable guitarists and bassists of all styles from Jazz to Rock to Country and Classical.

A major priority of my guitar teaching is to have students making expressive music every time they touch the instrument.

I begin by working on tone production on the open strings of the guitar, so that students are able to produce a full, beautiful tone on the first day. From there, we study left- and right- hand techniques in the context of real pieces of music, giving students the chance to apply the mechanics of guitar playing to the expression of musical ideas. At the same time, I work with students through progressive studies and warm-up exercises that have built-in expressive goals, so that they can learn to rely on their own ears to further refine their playing.

As I believe that a good guitarist is, first and foremost, a strong musician, I fold a number of diverse activities into weekly lessons, developing skills in music theory, ear training, sight reading, composition, and improvisation, all of which reinforce the acquisition of strong technique.

About Jeff
I’m a composer and guitarist, with 20 years of experience playing and performing on classical and electric guitars. I’ve given solo and chamber performances across the United States, with recent Seattle performances including Astor Piazzola’s complete "Histoire du Tango", the world premiere of Brian Cobb’s "Campfire Songs," and the Seattle premiere of James Bonney’s electric guitar concerto "darkLIGHTness."

In 2010, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical guitar performance and composition from Stanford University, where I performed solo recitals of Bach, Mozart, Turina, and Henze, collaborated with the Stanford New Ensemble on contemporary chamber pieces, and played lead guitar in the heavy metal band Full Metal Apocalypse.
I recently received a Doctorate in music composition from the University of Washington in Seattle, wher
e I’ve taught music theory, composition, and musicianship at the college level for seven years, and where I continue to perform with the UW Modern Ensemble, Inverted Space Ensemble, and Seattle Modern Orchestra.

A major priority of my guitar teaching is to have students making expressive, compelling music every time they touch the instrument. And as I believe that a good guitarist is, first and foremost, a strong musician, I fold a number of diverse activities into weekly lessons, developing skills in music theory, fretboard knowledge, ear training, sight reading, composition, and improvisation, all of which reinforce the acquisition of strong technique.

I teach a wide array of styles—including classical, folk, rock, flamenco, and heavy metal—and I look forward to helping you realize your musical goals!

I attended the prestigious Berklee college of music, have been teaching guitar for 10 years and playing for 20. I create lesson plans before every lesson to make sure that my students progress efficiently. I realize that most of the students I gain from takelessons.com will be beginners. Starting off with simple, one finger open chords, and simple melodies is business as usual. I can also teach students their favorite songs using this method. Of course reading music is an option, and I assign a theory book for this based on the students current skill level. As students progress, I teach scales, chord strumming patterns and things of the like. I love teaching and always have fun with my students, it's great to see them excited about learning they're favorite songs. I've been doing this a long time and it doesn't feel like work to me, I'm enthusiastic and well prepared.

As a professional performer, teacher, songwriter and recording artist, I am well equipped to focus on what my students want to learn. I have a bachelor's degree in music performance and four international teaching certificates. Having performed with Grammy nominated artists such as Blind Melon and Phil Keaggy, I feel I've developed different skills and techniques that I can relate to my students. I'm excited to work with beginners and veterans alike!

I've found that I'm best able to encourage musical growth in my students by being an inspirational teacher. I love focusing on the styles that my students are interested in, rather than pushing my own agenda. My motto is patience over perfection.

I have five albums of original music, and am always writing new songs. Creativity, in my mind, is one of the most interesting elements of music. As a teacher, I can help you develop your creativity and learn how to write songs.

I hope we can grow in music together!

About Peter
My name is Pete Kruse, and I'm a guitar teacher from Elgin, IL. I have a Bachelor's degree in music and have also taught group music at private and public schools. I've been teaching guitar for about ten years now, and I love helping students achieve their musical goals!

As an experienced and accomplished guitarist, I am able to teach classical, jazz, pop, rock, folk, blues and even song-writing / recording.

During guitar lessons, I can provide direction, or we can follow the student's desired goals, depending on what the student is looking for. As a teacher, I prefer to embody patience and inspiration. Music, in my opinion, should be enjoyable and fun, first and foremost.

THANK YOU for considering me!
