About Kimberly
Kimberly was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. After starting the flute and piano at the age of 8, she knew she had found something she loved and wanted in her life forever. At age 12, she added the saxophone and clarinet to her repertoire of instruments. After completing her Bachelors degree in Flute Performance at the University of Arizona she moved to Los Angeles to work on her Masters degree at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). There was where she fell in love with contemporary music and has devoted her life to sharing her love for it with others. After completing her Masters degree in Flute Performance at CalArts, she went on to pursue a Doctorate in Contemporary Flute Performance at the University of California, San Diego. Kimberly now resides in Los Angeles and plays with many groups throughout the city.

I am interested in teaching you what you need and want to learn so that you achieve your dreams. Please note that I only take serious students who will practice at least 30 minutes every day or 35 a day 6 days a week at home. I would like you to keep a log of how much you practice. This will enable you to make progress through the curriculum as you will be a beginner for the first 3.3 years, an intermediate for the next 3.3 years, and then an advanced student for 3.3 years. I will give you assignments to do over the week, and the next week we will go over them, learn something new and get new assignments. It takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert!

Dr. Maureen Spranza, is a great music teacher, my son is taking piano classes with her and I'm very grateful with her, because she always take the extra time to make sure my kid is learning, my kid loves Mrs. Maureen because she is a great teacher but also she is a great human being, she really cares about her students. And she not only plays the piano, she plays all the instruments, I hope to see my son become a great musician thanks to the dedication that Maureen puts in his classes, my kid loves his piano classes, every time after clases he came home very exited to practice what he learned and al of this if because Dr. Maureen encourage him to be better in Avery class

Dr. Spranza is one of the best piano teachers in the Bay Area. My two daughters take weekly lessons with her. She encourages them and empowers them to do their best. She teaches them both theory and practicals. They have participated in an informal recital and are now registered to take part in the MTAC Certificate of Merit program.

As parents, we see a big improvement in our daughters' piano playing skills. They even practice on their own, without us telling them to. All thanks to Dr. Spranza.

About Kareem
A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.

Today, as a performing artist he spends most of his time leading his group for which he composes and arranges most of the music. The band is constantly on the move as a sought af
ter performing group and spends most of its time performing in and around the Pacific Northwest. When not leading his own group Kareem can be seen and heard performing as a sideman with many other top notch musical acts and projects, most notably The Paperboys from Vancouver BC.

As an educator Kareem divides his time teaching jazz improvisation as an artist in residence at The Tacoma School of the Arts, directing the award winning student jazz ensemble at Pierce College, conducting masterclasses and workshops at schools around the Puget Sound area, and maintaining a full load of private students. Along with his teaching duties Kareem is the director or The Tacoma Jazz Association, serves on the Tacoma Arts Commission, and is a D'Addario Woodwinds performing artist.

Kareem holds a Bachelors Degree of Music from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle Washington which he attended after receiving a full scholarship.

Throughout his years of teaching Kareem has worked with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners just getting started, to advanced players who simply want new ideas and direction.

Lessons are relaxed and are focused on what you would like to learn.

I usually begin with assessing where students are in their abilities and then come up with a lesson plan based on what they already know and what they would like to accomplish.
They can be geared towards a 5 year old with no musical training whatsoever, or to an advanced musician who wants to further develop their skills.

Topics that I cover in lessons throughout a typical day of teaching include: Instrument technique, sight reading skills ( note and rhythm recognition ), memorization skills, music theory, ear training, improvising, and composing.

After 3 to 6 months of lessons and regular practice a beginning student should have a good command of their instrument and a strong foundation of sight reading. At this point we normally will also have started some music theory as well. For students wanting to focus on jazz we will have already begun improvising as well.

I focus on the basics of learning to read music and basic technique on the instruments that I teach. From there I proceed with theory, ear training, improvising, composition etc. It all depends on what the students want to learn. Kareem has been teaching me since I was in the fourth grade. I am currently in 8th grade, and man what can I say, he's as good as it gets! After two years I was in my middle school jazz band, which is not easy for a person who has only been playing for two years. You, yourself will be able to see extreme progress within just a few lessons! You must know Kareem teaches at Pierce College, a class at the Tacoma School of the Arts (which I hopefully will be attending and taking his class), teaches numerous private students every week, and lastly he performs with a stellar jazz band of his own! He is extremely dedicated to the musical field. If I were anybody reading this review and wanted to start playing any of the variety of instruments he plays, I would call Kareem K.!

Kareem is a dedicated and diligent musician and teacher. He is able to share his love of music with students of all ages. Not only is he extremely capable of teaching students the technical aspects of music, but his lessons incorporate a wider perspective as well, such as, listening to different genres of music and asking his students to discuss what they hear. He is always positive and encourages students to do their best. He has style and class and it is a privilege that two of my children can study under his tutelage.

Kelly has appeared with many orchestras throughout New York and Connecticut, such as the Chelsea Symphony, the One World Symphony, the Southern Tier Symphony, the West Harford Symphony Orchestra, and Curtain-Up Productions. Recently, Kelly was featured with the Chelsea Symphony in her NYC solo debut, playing the Vaughan Williams Concerto. Joshua Romatowski, flutist, has been praised for his ability to “allow each note to sound with its own expressive qualities” (San Francisco Examiner). Joshua is a wonderfully talented and skilled musician AND communicator. His heart is in his work, and his teaching style is encouraging and supportive. I'm an older student (senior actually) revisiting my past love of the flute. My hour lesson flies by and it always ends with me feeling I've learned a lot. At age 12, I wanted to play piccolo in a marching band. though I was soon to be inspired by the amazing young musicians of the Seattle Youth Symphony and camp Orchestras under Maestro Vilem Sokol. Then thrilled to join them after having the good fortune of training with the then Seattle Symphony flute/piccolo players- Sidney and Adele Zeitlin, I began as a classical flute and voice major at WWSU in Bellingham.

Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Abby is an excellent teacher. She tried her best to help me understand English by providing me examples, explaining detail, revising grammar, and so on. Besides teaching me English, she shared her own experiences with me. She told me how people can get through difficulties.
She is not only a real teacher in English, but also in life.

Abby van Spronsen is an excellent teacher, who has helped me develop my voice and musical style before and during my Conservatory studies. She really takes time for her students and because of her musical background she knows about many different styles, from jazz to pop to musical and even classical music. She knows how to use this knowledge well in her classes and loves to teach, which makes her a very inspiring voice teacher. I have learned a lot during the time that I took classes from Abby.

I have two years experience on private flute class, specializing in the beginner/intermediate student! All ages welcome.

In my flute class, I hope to establish a partnership with my students, not as an authority, but as a facilitator to motivate their passion for music. By empowering students, I hope they will realize how capable they are, and be guided by passion and love for diverse kinds of music.

Students will self-evaluate their song quality, rhythm and articulation using rubric and recording.

Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. And the music genres are depended on students' music taste.

I have experience teaching flute lessons to everyone from ages 5 to adult and from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. My students have won local competitions and been admitted to the music programs at universities such as UNT. I like to make sure that each student's practice comes from a place of mutual respect and understanding and I emphasize clear communication in practice expectations as well as when explaining playing concepts. I am a patient teacher and questions are encouraged!

I am an active teacher and performer newly returned to the Seattle area after a decade away. I have a BM from the University of Oregon and an MM from the University of North Texas, both concentrated in flute performance.

I recently spent three years in Texas and had a studio of 35 middle and high school flutists who under my tutelage improved their skills, gained new appreciation for music, won local competitions (one received a brand new professional flute for her award!) and one received an offer to attend UNT to study music for their undergraduate degree.

I also pursue an active playing career, but I am especially focused on teaching.

Cassie is a wonderful musician and teacher! She is incredibly knowledgeable both about physically playing the flute as well as style, musicianship, and history. You will learn so much about flute playing and music from her!

I loved Cassie! She taught me new pieces of music each week and it was like a private extension to band class but better! It took a while to find her but when we did I was so happy. She is amazing!

I enjoy teaching uniquely to the each student, rather than creating a master program that I apply to everyone in a blanket manner. All beginner students will learn specific scales, etudes, and techniques to get them to certain proficiency level, after which I begin tailoring the program to the student's musical tastes, abilities, and needs. One of my priorities with beginner and intermediate students is correctly developing tone from the beginning. I want to prevent students from forming the bad habits that come with forcing a merely passable tone, which is not only detrimental to long-term playing ability, but can lead to future injury. I also prioritize phrasing, which is just as important to musical success as tonguing, rhythm, and fingerings, even before students reach the advanced level.

Jessica earned her Master of Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, where she studied with master teacher Leone Buyse on a full scholarship. She graduated from Princeton University, where she was a University Scholar, in the spring of 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics and a Certificate in Music Performance. Jessica has been the Principal Flutist of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Piccolo and 2nd Flute player of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra, and a primary extra/substitute flutist for the Kansas City Symphony. In the summer of 2013, she placed third in the National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition. In 2007, she performed at the Kennedy Center as a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. She was a Miyazawa Flutes Emerging Artist from 2008-2013. Jessica has received additional training at several summer
festivals, including the Yellow Barn Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, the Aspen Music Festival, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Music Center, where she met her husband, Principal Percussionist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Joe Petrasek. Jessica and Joe perform together as the Petrasek Duo, and have given recitals and masterclasses at several universities.
Jessica has been a finalist twice for the position of Principal Flute of the Seattle Symphony. She was a finalist for Principal Flute of the Oregon Symphony, a super-finalist for Piccolo of the Houston Symphony, and was most recently the runner-up for Principal Flute of the Knoxville Symphony. Jessica has a huge passion for teaching, which she began at age 18. She has had students of all ages and levels, and has honed her teaching techniques, tailoring them to the specific needs of students whose manners of learning vary greatly. She is consistently surprised at what she discovers through teaching, even after 22 years of playing the flute. In addition to keeping a private flute studio, Jessica has been a tutor of Latin and Ancient Greek for five years, and has substitute taught. Her main hobby is English-style horseback riding, specifically Eventing.
