Hello! I have 15 years of experience playing and teaching drums. I am also a drummer in two gigging bands and passionate about getting you on the kit as soon as possible. I tailor every lesson to each student depending on skill level, musical interest, and goals. As a woman, I especially love teaching girls and women.

About Angela

Private Drum Teacher

Beginning to Intermediate Drum lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".

It's no secret, drums is the backbone or "foundation" to any hit song.

I break down drumming to its most basic rudiments so that you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling along.

You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

Darrell helped me a lot to get a handle on my Ableton rig. I needed to set up midi tracks, locate presets to create cool sounds from plugins. Then I needed to export the audio of a couple of those tracks to import into a separate Pro Tools project. Lot of progress, thanks Darrell! -- Frank S

I have been professionally teaching the drums for over fifteen years, both privately and at a variety of schools including Northfield Mount Hermon and Deerfield Academy. My teaching method strives to combine requisite skill building work and technical refinement (notably in the areas of rudiments, time keeping, and independence) with a focus on musical implementation of said technique in a variety of settings/genres, and an awareness of how to play with other performers and effectively use your skills to create an evocative (rather than simply challenging or impressive) performance.

A huge part of our lessons will involve listening to and learning how to play a diverse repertoire of music, from contemporary pop, and hip-hop to 70's era funk and soul, to 60's jazz and rock, curated to match each student's interests, while also exploring new material that they may never have had the chance to encounter before. Depending on the student, we may also delve into part-writing for ...

About Nathan

Teaching and playing music have always been closely linked for me throughout my career. I began performing professionally at thirteen, and two years later began giving private lessons, constantly incorporating new techniques and lessons I was learning from my gigs into my teaching curriculum. This

"Great teacher for our 8 year old!

Matt has taught our 8 yr old for about 8 months and he has learned so much! Though our son is a bit shy, Matt has been very patient, positive, and makes his lessons fun. He lets him know it's ok to make mistakes too which is very comforting to him. He is now able to play with his older brother who plays guitar. Matt worked with them together to teach them a song for their school variety show and they are so excited! He is friendly, always on time, and very passionate about teaching. He explains things clearly and gives him a few beats to work on before the next lesson. He loves drumming now:) We highly recommend him."

"One of many words to describe Murray, AWESOMENESS! Meeting Murray and learning under his instructions has brought a bigger meaning to playing the drums. His love of drums and music shows in how he teaches his students. He never criticizes your mistakes and works along side of you, teaching you, until you learn and understand it all. He is very patient, professional and the best drummer I have ever met. I am truly blessed to have him as an instructor and look forward to many years of his teachings. Not enough stars in the world to rate him!!!!!"

"Mike is AWESOME!

From the enthusiasm you see while he teaches you, to the way he gets up to dance to your drum beat, it's no surprise that Mike is very passionate about drums!!

Not gonna lie, I was a little skeptical finding a random dude on the internet for drum lessons, but I've been PLEASANTLY surprised by the progression I've been making so far.

Mike is very laid back (a pretty funny guy too) yet at the same time he pushes you to progress from where you're at and helps you work through your sticking/trouble points. He also prioritizes that you have a solid, firm foundation, before moving onto the next skill set.

Overall I'd give Mike TWO DRUM STICKS up!!!

I plan to continue my lessons under Mike and I highly recommend him to anyone interested in taking their drum skills to the next level."

Drumstick Sizes and Types - And Why It Matters

Drummers, you've got it easy.  Grab some sticks and something to hit, and your makeshift instrument is just as good as the real thing... right?  Sure, maybe if it's just an impromptu jam session with friends.  But for proper technique and to really improve on the drums, you'll need the right equipment - which includes your drumsticks. Choosing the right drumsticks can be as selective as buying a violin bow for violinists, and you may need to test out several different types before settling …
