I have been teaching trombone for 22 years. I have received about 14 years in trombone and specialize in it. I have produced 3 CDs with my brass group, Cornerstone Brass. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

My rising high school senior has been fortunate to have had lessons from Ben Pederson for the past year. He has taught him so much beyond what he has been learning in school. My son looks forward to his lessons, and has taken his trombone playing to whole other level. As requested, Ben has been focusing on jazz trombone with my son. It is a real joy to hear the two of them playing, and to hear my son speak so excitedly about what he has been learning with Ben. I'd give six stars if I could!

I have studied with some of the finest trombonists in the world, have performed in the nation's top orchestras, and am firmly committed to excellence in the trombone field. Music is one of the most indescribably powerful and moving things in the entire world, and I want students to, above all, simply enjoy playing and experiencing this wonderful gift. The trombone is, of course, merely a means to an end in this regard; yet its rich, golden, and versatile sound is what particularly draws me to it. My approach to playing the trombone is simple: producing the most beautiful sound on every note, as easily as possible. I think it is necessary to have the best sound that you can possibly make on the trombone in your head from day one, and to this end, I strive to play as much as possible for and along with the student so that they may develop their OWN ideal sound concept. By this I do not not mean playing all the correct notes, but instead performing the music in the correct style and context as the composer intended. Always remember that music is to be shared with others, and that making a statement with the music we play, in a way expressing our deepest emotions, is what this is all about!

I have been playing trombone, and more specifically, bass trombone, for over 20 years. I have studied trombone at New Mexico State University with Dr. Allan Kaplan, and at CalArts with James Miller of the LA Philharmonic. I have played, performed and recorded professionally with choirs, theater productions, jazz bands, marching and concert bands, symphony orchestras, small ensembles, and brass bands all over the world.

I work to make my lessons enjoyable AND engaging. I will spend time with you on fundamentals such as key and scale studies, tuning, functional harmony, breathing studies, arpeggios, mouthpiece studies, rhythm and counting exercises all the way into more difficult materials such as extending your range, melodic and improvisation skills, single- and double-valve studies, and even into extended techniques, such as multiphonics, split tones, circular breathing, quarter tonal methods and more.

About Tyler
Hi, I'm Tyler! Born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico, I am the son of a band director. That being said, I have literally been involved in music since I was an infant! I played trombone, bass trombone, and bass guitar all the way through high school, and went to New Mexico State University where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Music, and then moved to Los Angeles, California, where I received my Master's Degree at California Institute of the Arts, where I also learned to play the other brass instruments, as well as composition and arranging.

Throughout my career, I've been able to do some great things with music. I have been able to travel Europe and work with one of the world's finest brass instrument manufacturers, Michael Rath, I have toured Colombia with my University's Wind Ensemble, I've recorded at Capitol Records in Hollywo
od, and have written and premiered numerous works for orchestra and rock ensemble, trombone choirs, and even a duet for quarter tone trumpets!

I have an affinity for modern and avant garde music, but am well-versed in all genres and musical styles! I also like to play in and record rock and roll bands, I've amassed a quite a few years of recording experience as well. From gypsy bands to thrash metal groups, I've recorded a wide array of music.

I also taught in the classroom from grades k-12 for a few years before following my true passion of teaching privately. I love to reach you at your own level and work to grow with you from there.

My goal is simple: I simply want you to come to love music as much as I do, if not more! I strive to give you the tools to become a successful musician in your own right, and I work to keep my lessons fun and engaging.

I am an avid brass performer and teacher in the greater Baltimore area, having played for over a decade. In lessons, we will work out of some of the most trusted method books, discuss fundamental playing techniques in an accessible and easy-to-understand way, and search for unique solutions to individual problems as I tailor my teaching method to your learning style. All ages are welcome.

About Zachary
Hello! My name is Zachary (or Zac for short) and I am a Baltimore-based brass performer and teacher. I have been playing euphonium and other brass instruments for 14 years. Currently, I am in my final year as a music education student at Towson University, where I study euphonium with US Navy musician James Hicks. In addition to euphonium, I am quite proficient on both trombone and tuba, and have taught trumpet and horn as well.

Currently, I play euphonium in the Towson University Symphonic Band and Towson University Tuba Euphonium Ensemble, trombone in a folk-rock style band, and am an avid solo artist. I also have two years of experience as a nationally touring member of the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps. In addition to these experiences, I have performed with the Cadets2 Drum & Bugle Corps, the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band, and th
e Bushwackers Drum & Bugle Corps. In 2013, I was a recipient of the United States Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence.

Outside of performing, I am an avid teacher in the Baltimore area and beyond. I have worked as an instructor with various high school bands, including Perry Hall High School, Rockville High School, and Urbana High School.

Zac taught me how to properly perform an aria in front of a whole lot of important people that I was stressed about. He gave me some excellent pointers on how to work with a pianist. His knowledge of music and his experience in performance has certainly shaped the way I perceive my own performances ever since that lesson.

As a musician, Zac is above and beyond talented. Because of his proficiency and excellence, he offers great insight and helpful hints on how to play properly and with support, two extremely important parts of being a musician. Lastly, it is quite obvious what music means to him. His passion is inspiring, and makes me want to continue to pursue and practice my instrument. His lessons helped me develop from a second part to a first part, enabling me to play higher and more challenging parts for my band. Knowing that I was able to leave better than I started makes myself feel lucky and appreciative that I was able to take lessons with a person like Zac. Overall, one of the best music instructors I have had the pleasure of working with.
