***Lesson Details***

A personalized plan is made for each student depending on their goals and level of commitment. Intensity varies depending on what the student's goals are, and how much the student is available to fit in practice time. Some students are singing/playing competitively, and some are just singing/playing for fun!

At each lesson we will tune and warm-up, and review the practice assignment from the previous lesson. Julia will congratulate the student on their improvements and then use a variety of methods to help the student become more comfortable with any potential trouble spots. The next part of the lesson will be used to introduce new material.

Most lessons take place at Juia's home studio. For an additional fee, lessons may be booked at the students location or home.

Please note:
-Vocal lessons require a piano. Vocalists requesting in home lessons need to own a piano; a keyboard may even work depending on the maximum decibal output.
-All piano students must have a keyboard or piano available to practice outside of lesson time.
-Guitar players also do need to own a guitar in order to practice outside of lesson time.

Piano lessons are structured with a focus on what the student needs. We begin with a foundation of scales, note reading, and ear training, to give the student the versatility to go in any musical direction they like, and make them a well rounded musician. The book I usually begin in for piano is "Adventures in piano".

About Joshua
Joshua has been a musician for over twelve years and been a teacher for five. He is an award winning composer, critical thinker, and an honest teacher. Joshua has a high standards for his students and himself. Joshua has studied Suzuki method under Dr. Paula Bird for four years and has taught over 100 students. He performed his official Suzuki training under Dr. Laurie Scott. Joshua also teaches at the Texas State String Project under the direction of Dr. Ames Asbell and Dr. Karla Hamelin. He has done so since it's inception.

Joshua is an award winning composer and has composed over 80 pieces, ranging in style from classical symphony to electronic dance. He has also arranged hundreds of works for violin and piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a relaxed person with a strict teaching style. I have two critical expectations for my stud
ents.

1: I expect my students to practice everyday, with time depending on age. (10 minutes a day for 5 year old's, 20 minutes for 10 year old's, etc.) No exceptions. Lessons are a place for me to teach you, not a place to watch you practice.

2: I expect parents to participate in every lesson. You are the teacher 6 days a week, I'm only get to teach them one.

If everyone understands my expectations, students will grow and learn quickly, and have a great time doing it!

I develop a lesson plan depending on each students strengths, weaknesses, talents, and personality. No one student is identical to the next, so none will be taught the same, but everyone will follow a similar pattern.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano lessons with full keyboard. Stands, couches, and a small library of sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
Suzuki style instruction for violin technique. For songwriting and performance I focus on the analysis of music to find a middle ground of emotional expression and theory. Once that middle ground is found we explore what music means to the student, and how they can use it as a tool of expression.

I've been playing the violin self-taught for about two years because my first experience with a violin teacher went horribly. So after two years I figured I'd try again.
I was on Reverb Lessons for 6 months, and it was a complete nightmare. The most highly rated teacher they provided didn't seem like he was teaching me anything at all. Most of our lesson were music theory, which was helpful, but I would only play the violin the last 5 mins of the two hour lessons. He kept telling me, "i didn't have it in me to be a violinist" and he told me to play piano instead. Well it turned out he didn't even play the violin!
Completely despondent, I was getting angry that I
might not progress in the violin (which I was madly in love with) but dispite my bitterness I decided to try to find a teacher again.

I've only had three lesson with Josh and I can't articulate how much better I've gotten. He's calm and collective, and gives me exactly the advice I need in order to get better. He's an attentive listener, and responds accordingly. I enjoy his lessons; they are the perfect balance of stern and nurturing. I'm excited to see how I progress as the lessons continue, and I'm thankful that I FINALLY found a good violin instructor

Doniell has been exceedingly accomodating of our schedule, making it absolutely pleasant to work with her. We are a homeschool family and she offered time outside of evening hours. Andrew is a gifted teacher who prides himself on making the student feel comfortable, no matter their level of experience or ability. This approach has worked successfully for many of his students, allowing them to be more open and understanding of some of the many concepts introduced and practiced while learning the piano.

Andrew is also very adaptable, understanding that each student is different, responding to unique learning styles and approaches that suits them better than others. But one thing remains the same, and that is the ability to enjoy the work as well as feel clear and measurable progress. This is any student's ultimate goal, and Andrew has a proven track record of success when it comes to learning the instrument.

Andrew will work with you to establish clear goals, if you don't already possess them, and be a steady and comforting guide for you on your journey - no matter how far you intend to go.

About Andrew
Andrew started playing piano at the tender age of 3. His mom wanted him to spend his endless energy on something artistic so she started him on piano lessons. Very early on it was clear Andrew had a natural, unique ability to connect with the piano. He played in school bands throughout grade school and began performing around DC in high school. While Andrew also plays guitar, drums, and bass, the piano has remained his first love and primary instrument.

At the age of 17 Andrew left DC and started college at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. Andrew studied Jazz Piano but also led big bands, wrote and arranged music, produced and engineered. Shifting from Jazz to Rock in his early 20s, Andrew joined the band Ambulance LTD with which he played all over NYC and the US as well as internationally.

Upon returni
ng to New York from a hectic performance schedule, Andrew began assisting younger students at The New York Piano Academy—helping them to develop their playing skills, as well as their composing and arranging pursuits. The experience exposed his innate ability to build students’ talents through patience and encouragement, consistently taking them farther than they thought they could go. Andrew discovered his passion for teaching and began working with students of all ages, from 3 year-old children to seniors. As a teacher, Andrew focuses on making learning enjoyable while teaching all types of music—pop, rock, jazz, classical, and even Broadway. He tailors his programs to the students and teaches them not only how to play, but also how to hear, enjoy and love music.

Andrew is a gifted teacher and musician. I was beyond 50 when I started lessons with him, sure there was no way I could actually learn to play the piano. His patience, kindness and expertise overcame my fears and deficit of innate talent. I love his lessons and I enjoy practicing and I can actually play a few tunes!!! He is great at mixing things up - interweaving melodies and theory - and creatively finding new approaches to overcome obstacles.

I offer piano lessons to students who are at the beginning-intermediate level. I began learning the piano at a young age, and I know it provided a wonderful musical foundation for me once I began playing the flute at age 11.

In beginning piano lessons students will learn about:

1. Identifying notes on the keyboard
2. Reading music
2. Rhythm and articulation
3. Correct hand positions and fingerings
4. Creativity and music

These concepts and others will be explored through learning exciting pieces, and through studying music theory.

I also encourage my students to be creative, as they explore the piano by creating their own melodies and compositions.

About Monica
I am a flutist, passionate about performing and teaching. I teach flute and piano lessons out of my home-based studio in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Over the 18 years I have been playing the flute, I have come to view it as an immensely versatile instrument. Music has opened up a world of creative experiences for me; through improvisation in jazz, interpreting music as a performer, and composing original ideas.

I received my Masters of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Idaho in 2011, and a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from BYU-Idaho in 2010.
I have performed in jazz festivals throughout Europe and the US. I have been a member of groups such as the Idaho Falls Symphony, Califonia All-State Honor Band, Downbeat award-winning Folsom High School Jazz Band, and various other symphonies and ensembles. In 2009, I was featured as a
concerto competition winner with the BYU-Idaho Sinfonietta.

I love the Inland Northwest, and try to take advantage of living in such a beautiful place.
