Vocal Technique -- basic to advanced (how to use your entire instrument and expand your options as a singer -- and maintain a healthy instrument long-term)
Jazz Singing & Musicianship
Pop Singing & Musicianship
"Singer's Piano" - using the piano as a tool to help expand your singing and musicianship
Ear-trainging and Musicianship for singers -- how to sing in tune, how to improvise/ "riff", how to hear more interesting note options, how to expand colors/ textures in your voice

About Kelly
After years of teaching all levels, and many different styles of voice and piano lessons, I can tell you this-- I LOVE teaching! My students have ranged from 5 to 65, from classical piano, or jazz/pop piano, to pop/rock/jazz singing, to songwriting and/or ear-training, and no matter what we always have a great time. I guarantee that in our lessons, you will see progress almost immediately... but above all, learning music is FUN! A little extra info....
**In 2012 I finished a Masters degree at NYU in Jazz Studies, and recorded an album of some jazz, folk, and original music.
**I perform in New York City and Seattle, and I tour with my band a few times each year
**I taught jazz piano and voice lessons for four years at NYU and also through the New York Jazz Academy and Brooklyn Music Factory, from beginning to advanced, classical, pop
or jazz -- and I teach rock bands how to learn music by ear and have fun playing with other people! I have also been teaching privately (independent home studio) since 2007.
**I organize and teach vocal workshop classes, where singers can learn how to work with a band.
**I joined the Cornish College of the Arts adjunct jazz faculty in Spring 2015!

I moved back to Seattle in April 2014 after being in NYC for four years -- completing my Master of Music degree (NYU), living, teaching, and performing in Brooklyn and Manhattan. NYC was amazing, and I'd love to share with you all of the cool things I picked up during my time there. From 2005-2010, I lived in Seattle and taught music lessons. I graduated from Cornish College of the Arts in Jazz Performance (voice) and performed a lot around Seattle-- from jazz clubs to concert halls-- performing pop, rock, soul, jazz and even working in a Steely Dan Tribute Band!! (your parents might appreciate that more than you do)

More than anything, I'm fascinated by the different ways that students learn and always love figuring out what kind of learning works best for YOU.

*** Lesson Details ***
I love watching my students progress and enjoy their music, no matter what style they enjoy or what level they are. I work with students to pick out music that they'll enjoy working on-- it's always more fun to learn songs you love!
I'm a pretty laid back teacher, but I work to inspire my students to try their hardest and do the best that they can do. I will provide you will the exercises, materials, and right level of songs to help you meet your goals, and together we can create a plan for our lessons.

In our lessons we will cover a variety of topics, including:

--Strong, Healthy TECHNIQUE so that you can gain a command of your instrument and play or sing whatever you choose. Through various EXERCISES you will develop strength, control, musicianship, and good habits.
(Vocalists:)
It is important to develop a healthy technique so that you can sing whatever you want without getting fatigued or injuring your voice. We'll work on developing strong technique and finding your own unique SOUND-- we'll choose music that is right for your vocal style and music that YOU connect with so you can really express yourself.
(Pianists):
No matter whether you want to play classical, pop, or jazz, you'll want your fingers to be strong and agile enough to get the sound that you want out of the instrument. With good technique you can play anything!

--Rhythm, subdivision, and groove

--Ear-training & Music Theory (chord qualities, pitch matching, easy transcription)

--Building your REPERTOIRE so that you have songs to play, and discussing techniques specific to each style of music you study

--Arranging or Communicating with a band (if that is something which interests you)

--Performance considerations.... developing confidence and personal expression!

My goal is to inspire students to play their instruments (or sing!), develop good habits and encourage healthy curiosity..... but most of all to Love Playing Music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
full music room with 88 f/w keyboard with music stand, amp, microphone (if applicable), acoustic guitar, seating for parents.

I will provide lesson plans and corresponding handouts, exercises, examples, etc. If the student is taking piano lessons they should have access to a keyboard or piano at home. I also have a vocal microphone & amp to work on microphone technique.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz/pop piano and voice, and have a strong background in classical and jazz theory and technique. I typically design curricula which include technical exercises from my classical background and then focus stylistically on the genre that the student is interested in. I have extensive experience both performing and teaching in many jazz, pop, rock and soul styles-- I try to help the student find their unique voice while establishing a strong foundation of healthy technique.

Kelly is an awesome teacher. She is thorough, patient, and has a great personality which is very important for a teacher to have. Kelly has presented her knowledge in a way that I can understand and apply. I've learned quite a bit in a very short time. I recommend her teaching skills for young and old.

Kelly is the best voice/singing teacher I've had from takelessons! She's a true professional--prompt response for scheduling, on time/ready for my lessons when I arrive and she has a proper studio space (clean and organized)! But above all that, her education, experience, talent and heart makes her give you her very best to help you succeed in your goals--while doing it in a sincere, respectful and encouraging way. She has techniques, tips and advice geared specifically for my challenges, that are my go-to's for when I'm rehearsing/warming up and performing! Thanks, Kelly!

I put this subject here because I wanted to be clear that I am willing to work with all singers, experienced or just starting out, from people who are simply interested in how their voice works to those looking for professional level training. I am also happy to work on different styles, including basics of jazz and pop, as well as musical theater and classical music.

About Natalie
Hello, I'm Natalie, and I am a soprano. I enjoy performing as a soloist, chamber singer, and professional chorister in the Pacific Northwest, Midwest, and Italy. I taught private voice lessons to middle school and high school students at an independent school, as well as free-lance lessons with adult singers, for my last three years in Chicago leading up to my move to Seattle recently. I also became a certified teacher in Illinois in music for K-12, including general music, band, orchestra, and chorus, which is what I used to do full time before deciding to balance my career more evenly between teaching and performing.

As a soloist, my recent performances include my Artist Diploma recital with Byron Shenkman (harpsichord) and Janet See (baroque flute), the Bach's Lunch concert series with Henry Lebedinsky (harpsichord, organ), and th
e Classical Music Nights at Cafe Racer concert series, all here in Seattle. Other significant solo performances include Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 (2015), Purcell’s Te Deum Laudamus (2014), Mendelssohn’s Hear My Prayer (2014), Fauré’s Requiem (2013), and Bach’s Magnificat (2012). As a chorister in 2013 I rocked it hard singing with the Rolling Stones. I received my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University in 2010 and 2015, respectively. I am a recent graduate of the Artist Diploma in Early Music program at Cornish College of the Arts.

Though most of my experience has been in jazz, musical theater, Gospel, pop, and classical singing, I have helped hundreds of students of all other styles, ages, beginners to professionals, to gain greater freedom of vocal expression, by adapting my simple 8 part individualized method to any style they choose. Having studied and performed extensively in the USA and Europe as a classical, jazz, musical theater, Gospel, and pop singer/flutist, I specialize in a therapeutic approach to singing that is nurturing and safe for shy students to blossom, healing to damaged voices, as well as stimulating to the the creativity of seasoned performers. Emphasizing the value of personalizing the text, my students have often been able to develop their own unique singing style more quickly than with other teachers. There are few more rewarding experiences than contributing to someone's JOY of SINGING!

About Abby
Due to my maternal grandfather's work as a Chicago vaudeville orchestra leader, from early childhood, the performing arts have been in my blood. Starting to study classical flute at age 12, then playing in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and taking professional jazz/classical flute workshops/master classes, I've been teaching and playing all styles of music professionally since my 20's.

Vocal study began at age 15 with some great artists/educators in SF, Seattle, and Europe, including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Adrian West from NYC Broadway, David Tigner- SF Opera, Davida Kagan-Seattle Opera, and Roland Wyatt-
Manhattan Transfer coach /NY Academy of Dramatic Arts. Through many teaching years, I've developed a very successful, uniquely simple 8 part method to help cross cultural individuals and groups sing optimally from thei
r hearts. For all levels from beginners to professional. the necessary basic vocal techniques can be taught effectively in 4 to 8 lessons, though the process of becoming a successful artist continues during one's lifetime.

With a BA in Theater Arts from SFSU, and over 50 years directing, acting, and musical experience, including 15 years working successfully as an ESL educator, my experience has allowed me to help any student achieve their personal and/or professional goals.

I use vocal techniques and didactic methods that are based in science and the innate physiology of the voice. I believe this form of "evidence based practice" frees the natural voice and makes you sound like you! While I believe classical technique is the foundation for all healthy singing, I am well versed in the stylistic and technical demands of all genres.

About Michael
I earned a BFA in Musical Theater and a minor in Music, as well as a post-baccalaureate certificate in Speech & Hearing Sciences, where I studied vocal physiology and function. I have been coaching my peers since 2011 and began working with private students shortly after.

I had around two months of lessons with Michael before I left the Seattle area. They were great! I'd been singing along with my own guitar playing for year, but had no formal voice training. Michael met me where I was at vocally, and introduced exercises for building good habits and a greater awareness of how my voice works and what I can do with it. He also had suggestions for songs that were in the style I enjoy and would challenge my abilities, then helped break down and work through the vocals. I think as an adult (I'm 32) it can be intimidating to dive in to learning something completely new but I had an enjoyable, stress free, successful experience with Michael.

I have so much fun with Michael. As he once told me, he takes his work seriously, but doesn't take himself too seriously. This leads to a very relaxed and personable, yet professional lesson tailored to what you're trying to accomplish. His scientific background on the physiology of the voice was particularly helpful to me, as he could explain with biology what is happening when you sing properly. The best part is how much we laugh and joke around while we work through the more difficult parts of a song. I always look forward to our lessons and he is a pleasure to learn from!

Hello potential student! I have been teaching voice for the past ten years and I am a professional opera singer, but I love teaching all different styles! I received my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy from the prestigious Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD. I believe that anyone can learn how to sing, and I am very passionate about inspiring individuality and confidence in each of my students, no matter his/her skill level! In a half-hour lesson, we usually spend the first 15 minutes doing warmups and building technique with specific exercises that strengthen the voice, extend range, improve diction, etc. The second half of the lesson is spent applying that technique to a song. You can expect to learn all of the foundations of singing in a lesson, such as correct posture and breathing, diction, musicality, etc., as well as how to deal with stage fright, confidence issues, performance practice, ear training, and/or singing in different languages.

About Erica
Hello future students, parents and/or guardians! Thank you for taking a moment to read my profile. I have been teaching voice/piano for ten years and counting! I am a professional opera singer and a graduate of the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, MD, where I received my Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy. I have performed at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and have sung with many different companies around the United States including Seattle Opera, Tacoma Opera, Utah Festival Opera, and Maryland Lyric Opera, to name a few. Even though I am a classically-trained singer, I love working on various different styles with my students. And speaking of students, some have gone on to compete and win in voice/piano competitions, talent shows, and even audition for The Voice! What ever you or your child
's musical goals are, I will strive to do my best in helping you or your child attain them (and more). If you'd like to learn more about me or my studio, please visit my website, converystudios.com for more information!

I have a sensitive, positive teaching style and I will work with you very patiently and supportively. I have found so much joy from free, healthy singing and it is my goal to help you experience this same joy in your musical journey.

I have been performing for over 20 years and have experience singing for many different opera companies and choirs, soloing at
churches and restaurants, and currently sing in a local band. If you would like more information about my professional experience, please visit my website. http://www.stefaniegoldstein.com/

Have you seen the recent article about Adele (and many other artists) continuously losing her voice and needing vocal surgery? This is due to bad technique! So many teachers and producers out there are teaching with poor technique and only care about sound, not the health of the voice. It is finally coming to light that this is not a sustainable way to treat the voice. I have been fortunate enough to have been trained with healthy vocal technique that is very free, natural and beautiful (not "produced") and I would love to share it with you!

For more information please feel free to contact me, and we can discuss your personal singing needs.

I look forward to working with you!

The voice is precious. Please be kind to it. It's the only one you've got!
