I help my students build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of trumpet playing using my own material, classic books from the trumpet pedagogy, and current songs we learn by ear. I make an effort to find out what music the student is interested in and what they find enjoyable to play and shape the lesson plan around that. I find this approach makes the instrument fun to play!

I am an audiophile that enjoy all types of music and have experience playing in a wide variety of genres like jazz, rock/pop, ska/reggae and classical.

I thoroughly enjoyed having Matt as my teacher for 4 years.

Matt is patient, thoughtful, and talented. Matt helped me to improve my trumpet playing, and I also learned a lot about music theory and how to play by ear.

I highly recommend Matt!

hello:

Matt Hull was my trumpet teacher for 2 years, before he moved to NYC. Matt is a fine teacher and a fine person. He was always ready to respond to my questions and respected my own ideas about what i was trying to accomplish. Matt is patient, open, and prepared for the lessons. Matt is knowledgable about both classical and jazz teaching, and has a strong background due to his experience at Berklee. I think anyone, from beginner to advanced students would benefit from working with him

"Fantastic first lesson with Justin! My 12 year old learned so much in his first 45 minutes and is so excited and energized to practice and continue learning. Justin's communication is fabulous and he is incredibly on top of things! I received an email within 15 minutes of the first lesson with notes, things to work on, and activities to practice before his next lesson. We are beyond ecstatic that we found Justin and look forward to working with him for years to come!"

"My high school daughter has received trumpet lessons from Jonathan for over a year. He is an excellent instructor, very knowledgeable and patient. As a school teacher, he knows how to work with kids in a way that gives him an advantage over a non-teacher performing artist. We've done lessons both in person and online. I'd highly recommend Jonathan to any parent looking to have their middle school/high school student take private lessons."

"Beckie is fabulous - with children, too!

Our 5 year old son has been taking trumpet lessons with Beckie now for 3 months. He has done amazing progress, is eager to practice every day in order to please her, and looks forward to each lesson. Beckie is incredibly encouraging, kind, yet strict enough to keep child's play away from the lesson, and finds ways to make a small child understand the basics of music theory. She balances the lesson nicely between actual playing and theory, never tiring out the student too much with either one. She's reliable, always on time, and communicates very well with both student and parents about any wishes we may have. She makes our son feel special, and he is very sad having to leave her, as we are moving out of the country this summer. His own words being: "Isn't it sad that I'll have to stop my lessons with Beckie, now that we've just gotten started - I really like the way she teaches."
All this to say... we warmly recommend her, and regret having to stop lessons with her. And that we encourage anybody, adult or child wanting to learn the trumpet (or any other instrument Beckie teaches!) to use her services!"
