I understand that each person learns differently and has different musical goals. Because of this, I do not teach everyone the same. I do not teach out of any specific book or teaching program. Instead I design lessons around the student and their own personal style and goals. I feel that this creates a more motivating and driven curriculum and makes lessons more enjoyable for myself and my students.

Andrew is an excellent instructor. He is really knowledgeable in music theory. I took lessons for only a short time but was able to learn so much, because he used my knowledge of piano to help me understand guitar concepts and he focused on the techniques and songs that I was most interested in.

Hey! Nothing matters to me more than the music community, and especially the local music community. It's important for me to understand my students individually and create lesson plans that are tailored to the individual. Learning is meant to be fun. I love using references, analogies, and tools that match the student, creating a learning environment that is very comfortable. What makes me unique is I often follow up my students through text or phone call to assess learning. It's important to me to follow up throughout the week and answer questions at anytime. I like to think of my students as friends!

For the beginner we start learning immediately, by choosing what guitar and why. The different methods of sitting with the guitar, as well as standing. We then go over tuning your instrument, these things make us more familiar with the instrument. We then learn new songs by playing either chords (harmony) or melodic lines, (melodies or scales). The beginner will also learn to use "proper technique" which includes playing on fingertips, thumb placement for the fretting hand and other approaches. The picking hand techniques include and are not limited to finger picking, or the use of the plectrum.

For intermediate player it's all about theory and practice. This level of student will learn scale and chordal theory, and apply them to existing songs as well as learning the new songs with the theory in mind. More advanced picking techniques and the ability to know when to use what picking approach when reading the the rhythm figures on the staff. Knowledge of song composition is ...

- Mr Mandel is the most patient instructor, which is good since he's dealing with an 8 year old girl who's not sure she even wants to play an instrument. Somehow, he manages to instruct and motivate her even when she'd rather be playing computer games.
- I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely.
-I highly recommend him!

I am an adult who began guitar as an adult and I have taken lessons with Mandel for nearly a year. He is the single best music instructor I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable and versatile, welcomes questions, and will take time to explain anything even if it interferes with his planned lesson. He is encouraging and incredibly professional. I leave every lesson ready to try again and encouraged to keep practicing. I highly recommend him as a guitar and music theory instructor.

I've been working with Trevor for just over a year. His teaching goes beyond just dry technique and theory to answer the question "why am I doing this?" When you work with Trevor, there is purpose behind everything you do. He starts with your big picture goals and breaks them down into actionable steps that you can take feeling like it's going somewhere. This makes for way more efficient and exciting practice sessions. If you don't know exactly where you want to go with your playing, Trevor will help you find that as well.

Trevor is an amazing teacher! He works with you to make a plan to learn whatever interests you. I can bring in any kind of music or style of playing and he will help me learn all of the elements. He is happy to go as far into theory as you want or stay more high level. Also has been very helpful in transitioning from learning tunes to writing and recording my own songs. Highly recommend.

"I've been taking lessons from Mr.Connors for quite a while now, and I must say that he is the greatest guitar teacher I have ever had. A year ago, before I met Mr.Connors, I used to be a the worst guitar player ever. I used to spend hours over hours in front of the computer screen trying to learn a song or some music theory, but I never seemed to get any better. I still continued to try, though, because I had a particular interest towards the instrument, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that i wasn't going in the right direction and that I needed someone to guide me. Mr.Connors was just the person I was looking for. He identified my skill level immediately and steered me in the right direction. Each song I was taught had a unique skill that I needed to master to make it through to the end. This made me realise the importance of the subtleties involved in playing guitar.

I just recently dived into music theory and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the amount of theory that I have to learn, but Mr.Connors knows how to light my spirits up. Watching him play, I realise that I can take my guitar to the next level with just a little more effort. This motivates me to spend more time on the instrument, and I got to say I have never been more interested in the guitar than I am right now.

Overall Mr.Connors is nice, polite, patient, funny, and an exemplary guitar player and teacher (If that wasn't obvious already). Looking back I realise I've come a long way from a year ago, and I have Mr.Connors to thank for everything. I know I'm going to keep learning from him as long as i still want to get better."

"My Music background: Been in the church choir as a kid and teen. Love country and pop music. Never played any instrument whatsoever. Always wanted to learn to play the guitar. 2013 summer had taken beginner course at community college.

Lessons with Mr. Jeff: Taking group lessons at the community college, left me yearning for more as well as gave me the strong feeling that i was not learning my basics right. Hence decided to try private lessons. Was looking around on the web for Guitar teachers in/around Edison for couple of months. When i found Mr. Jeff online, and read his profile, I knew i had found my teacher. What impressed me most was:
1. His versatility in different genres of music. The vastness of his knowledge.
2. His specialized focus in finger-picking (My dream some day down the line!)
3. His flexibility in offering lessons - he even offers lessons on Skype.

Its been close to 6 months now. And i have enjoyed every moment in my music journey.

My greatest challenge was to unlearn many of the bad habits from the past. And Mr. Jeff has been greatly patient about it and has given me so many different options and tips/tricks to help me get better. He has a close eye and a sharp ear. There is not one note that i can slide under wrongly without him noticing. Right from handling the instrument right, finger positioning, to appreciating the playing of the instrument itself, he not only tells you how to do things right, but always backs it up with logical reasoning as to why he suggests certain ways. He never forces anything on you, but allows you to make your own choice - which i think is great, because since you are not forced to do anything that you are not convinced about, you have greater conviction to stick to it, because it was your choice.

While we follow the Hal Leonard's book for theory, from the very second lesson, i was encouraged to try playing songs that i liked - an effective approach to learn chords in parallel. And since i love to sing and play, (it was quite a challenge - which i didnt realise earlier), i couldnt just download the chords for a song from the net and start playing/singing right away. Mr Jeff puts a lot of effort in making the right chords for me, in the right scale that suits my voice and is in a comfortable range so that the end result is melodious to the listener. And given that am neither a great student (practicing regularly always a challenge!) nor a great singer, he has had to make so many versions in order to help reach my goals. Am honestly motivated by the fact he does not give up on me when i struggle with a song, but constantly finds ways of how I can conquer it. Maybe not how it is played in the actual record, but to an extent that gives me the satisfaction of being able to play that song within my capacity as a beginner. It is a great feeling when you play a song to tune for the first time.

Apart from being a keen observer, he is also very good with knowing the mood of the student and the student's perception to a particular music piece. He knows exactly what I think even before I can say it out loud. He clearly knows my strength and my weakness. This tells me that he is able to relate to me at my level and not from thousand feet high where he is. He is quick to appreciate when you do a good job and motivates you to stick on and persevere when it is not a great day at the lesson.
He also always remembers what was discussed in the previous lesson and the areas of improvement, so there is no escape. :) This has struck me most because, i know he is connecting to me as an individual student and that am not yet another student on the line.

He has also been most obliging with last minute schedule changes and has always accommodated me.

His home, where he gives his lessons is also very nice and warm. No awkwardness or discomfort of any sort. Thought i will mention this, because this was one of the thoughts in my head when i was searching for a teacher.

Overall I am very glad and thankful that he is my teacher. I will greatly recommend him to anyone who wants to start or take their skill to the next level, because he is not only knowledgeable and but "he can" teach. Hearing him play a piece, is motivation enough to persevere. I only wish I do him better justice by putting more time into practice.

Thank you very much Mr. Jeff."

"I strongly recommend Ahmad as a guitar teacher for all skill levels. I am highly satisfied with the music content and his clear, accessible teaching style. I also play clarinet and piano for the fun of it, and can read music, but the guitar has its own unique rewards and challenges. I love anything that has to do with the guitar, and Ahmad thoughtfully passes on information about players, recordings, gear, and websites that he feels might be of interest or use to me. Ahmad customizes each of my biweekly lessons to my current level of understanding and practice. As a result, I have steadily made progress. So far, we have covered basic rhythms and playing technique, scale patterns in preparation for playing lead and eventual improvisation, chord forms, including barre chords, and songs that are challenging to play, but in a motivating, not discouraging, way. Two things that struck me right off in studying with Ahmad is that, one, he really emphasizes practicing and playing music in proper time, which is crucial to playing well with other musicians, amateur or professional. The other thing is that he strongly urges students to practice in between lessons, which leads without fail to better playing and musicianship. With Ahmad, I am motivated to practice at least 15-20 minutes per day, 3 or more days per week. Also, he is quite patient with questions or challenges I may have with a lesson, and thoroughly addresses them before we move on. I'll close with how impressed I am with Ahmad's musical knowledge and guitar mastery, Over the years, he has developed an extremely comprehensive system of teaching harmony, and for me, it is the perfect approach to advancing my understanding of chords, scales, and the art of improvisation."
