I am a self-taught musician with 15 years of experience playing electric and acoustic guitar. My lessons begin by learning what inspires you as a musician, and working to take you where you want to go! Learning some of your favorite songs is often a great place to start. By learning a variety of music, you'll quickly begin to notice patterns & understand basic theory on what notes work together well. From there, you can apply that knowledge to improvisation, as well as songs you may want to write!

From those first few lessons, there's a million different ways we can explore the guitar together. With my lessons, I offer recording time in my home studio where you can learn how to write, record, produce, and mix fully arranged songs!

Reach out to say hi, and let me know what some of your immediate goals and questions are!

Specialties: Indie, Rock, Pop, Alternative, Psychedelic, Folk, Acoustic.

Mitch gave lessons to my son about 6 years ago (when Mitch still lived in St. Louis). He still picks up the guitar a few times each week to unwind, and often mentions things Mitch taught him while practicing.

I have been teaching piano in the Seattle area for close to ten years. I have worked with young beginners to intermediate and some advanced students. My methods are eclectic and I often draw from the Kodaly Method for beginners. I encourage my students to sing along while they play to reinforce learning, accessing multiple neural pathways.

I teach my students to read music and play with feeling and heart. I instill a love of music in my students by creating musical moments in them and expose them to a wide variety of genres and styles. Students will learn basic technique, theory, improvisation, and performance etiquette, all while having fun!

About Holly

I am an enthusiastic musician with a talent for teaching. I have worked as a voice and piano teacher in Seattle for over 16 years. Previously employed at The West Side Music Academy in 2003-2006, I realized my passion for individual instruction early in my career. I studied Music Education under D

Raised in largely bilingual household. B.A. in Spanish from UW (cum laude). English fluency slightly stronger. Extremely high level Spanish proficiency although the minutiae within humor can sometimes be lost. Excellent for those who need help with pronunciation, grammar (clarification of grammatical rules like the difference between a direct object and an indirect object, etc.), conjugation, and conversation.

DAVID IS AN OUTSTANDING TEACHER IN EVERY RESPECT. HIS KNOWLEDGE OF SPANISH SEEMS EXCELLENT, AND HIS INTEREST IN THIS LANGUAGE IS CLEARLY VERY STRONG. THIS ALLOWS CLOSE ANALYSIS OF SPANISH, AND STANDS AS A SIGNIFICANT BENEFIT TO THE DIDACTIC PROCESS. IN TURN THIS PROMOTES A SPIRIT OF LEARNING IN CLASS WHICH IS INFORMATIVE AND GOOD FUN. FINALLY HIS KNOWLEDGE OF SPANISH/ENGLISH COGNATES AND INDO-EUROPEAN ROOTS IS UNUSUALLY BROAD, WHICH MAKES LEARNING SPANISH WITH HIM EASY AND ENTERTAINING. I BELIEVE DAVID HAS A TRUE VOCATION FOR TEACHING, AND I HOPE I CAN GO ON WITH LESSONS WITH HIM FOR SOME TIME TO COME.

Evan has been really helpful for me as I get back into drum lessons after taking a break from formal learning. He helps me focus on the things that I want to learn, and breaks down challenges I face into parts that are easy to understand and practice. I value Evan’s humbleness, openness, knowledge, and general joy when it comes to drums and lessons. We are doing online lessons and I don’t think they miss a beat compared to in-person - in fact, it works better for my schedule. Thank you, Evan!
Jerker O.
Evan took extra time to check out some of my recordings before the lesson. Much appreciated, and it led to focusing on relevant stuff. Great first lesson!

I've been taking piano lessons with Jonathan for over a month now and I've been very pleased with his teaching. He's extremely knowledgeable and skilled, but what I appreciate most is his enthusiasm during lessons. He keeps the lessons fun, even when the subject matter is difficult. On top of this, he's just a cool, nice guy who I've enjoyed getting to know.

Working with Johnathan has been a joy.

It was my purpose setting out to study music in general, not just to study an instrument but to use the instrument as a means of approaching music in the abstract. I set out to study music’s mechanics and theoretical foundations.

Jonathan is very knowledgeable and very meticulous. He has a precise and analytical sort of mind, and very strong foundations in his classical training.

To have a wealth of knowledge in one's subject is not enough, one also has to know how to teach (which is a whole skillset of its own). It is clear Jonathan is an experienced teacher. I have never felt rushed with Jonathan, he is very generous with his time. He provides ample resources for study outside of our sessions, and is quick to respond to emails. He has lent me books, sent me links to videos, and provided me with plenty of homework.

Jonathan has also been very accommodating in allowing me to have some authority in planning lessons and exploring my own interests. Particularly I wanted to study modal music and found a folk song in the Locrian Mode. We took a break from the Suzuki work we had been doing and he helped me transcribe the song and practice.

I could not recommend Jonathan enough, I am switching focus from violin to piano for the time being and will be employing him as my piano tutor, and I’m very much considering taking spanish lessons under his tutelage as well.
Ian S.
Ian Really enjoyed his lesson. Jonathan is very knowledgeable and helped Ian with his basic skills and gave him great pointers. He also gave him an outline and daily practice requirements.

With her positive and encouraging teaching style, Sharon guided me to better myself as a beginning artist. Her teaching technique is uncomplicated and easy to follow. "I have always felt like I had a creative impulse I needed to express, but felt like I needed some solidified skills to be able to begin. I felt nervous about starting to learn something new at my age, but from the first conversation I had with Jessica, I knew I would feel absolutely at ease learning with her. Jessica is both an experienced educator and a truly inspired artist. One of the first things she taught me was how to look at the world around me differently and in a more open way that allowed me to translate that to paper. It was exhilarating. Jessica is absolutely lovely, knowledgeable and provides tangible instructions that are showing their effect on paper! I am so thrilled with the work I am creating with her continued instruction. I cannot more highly reccommend studying with Jessica!"
