I've been performing music for over 15 years. I've been teaching guitar for the past three years. I like keeping guitar fun! I will work with each student's individual needs and goals. I like all kinds of music and styles so don't feel embarrassed if you wanna learn a Taylor Swift song or Old Town Road. I like pursuing what the student is interested in while still teaching essential skills like strumming, note reading, chords, picking, etc. Reach out and lets chat about guitar!

Hi! I have been playing guitar for over 40 years. I was introduced to guitar by my older brother. He taught me Johnny B. Goode & we would jam for hours. I took some music classes at college but was a business major. Colleges only offered classical guitar & I was not interested in that. I have since studied six years with SF Conservatory graduate & classical guitarist Tim Lawler. Tim helped me learn to read music & develop my teaching skills. Thanks Tim!
I have been teaching for over 25 years, making a living at it for most of that time. I teach group & private lessons. Most of my students are beginners. Many start out as kids & stay until they go to college. I have a lot of teen & adult students also, with many diverse interests from classical, jazz, rock, funk, blues, alt, pop, rap, punk, metal, folk, country, game music, Americana, reggae, bluegrass. I also have those interests. Students are studying with me; we are both learning. I enjoy it as much as they do. I ...

If you are brand-new to the guitar, I'd love to jump right in and teach you a fun song right away during your first lesson. I like making this as fun as possible while you're learning a lot about the guitar. If you already know how to play, I'd like to help you gain a better understanding of how the guitar applies to basic music theory. I want to help you truly gain your independence as a guitar player. In my opinion, there are only two things that really matter when learning how to play the guitar: 1) Having fun and 2) Learning a lot. That's what I hope that you can attain by learning from me.

Hear From TakeLessons Guitar Students
Over the past 12 years, we've given over 3,000,000 lessons to happy customers around the world.
I've been playing since I was 6. As a teacher myself, however, I often devoted more time to my students' practice than to my own. My goal in taking lessons with Eric was to get back the technique, fluidity and creativity that I used to have.
In the first month alone, my fluidity was back and my technique was well on the way to being what it once was.
He reminded me of practice routines that I'd long forgotten and drills that I would have my students do that I had since stopped doing.
His knowledge of the fretboard and theory is amazing and his ability to relate that knowledge even more so.
Definitely worth it!"

Aaron's very knowledgeable, talented and is accommodating to our busy schedule. Plus he's very funny! I've also learned a lot in this process as an observer. I'd definitely recommend him as a teacher to anyone who is a beginner or would like advance their skills."

Jared is knowledgeable, experienced, respectful, flexible, funny, sensitive, patient, humble and kind.
I most appreciate his flexibility and understanding towards where I am in the moment, and believe that the ability for a teacher to meet the student where they're at is a true art.
I came to him for lessons in guitar, and am learning so much more. I have improved my skills on guitar, my understanding of theory, my confidence in song-writing, my awareness of the music industry, my comfort in singing, etc.!
Most importantly for me, is that taking lessons with Jared helps me be accountable to my own dreams of being a musician and he helps me take that seriously by celebrating the small victories and always being respectful to my ideas and efforts.
Jared has helped elevate and encourage my musicianship most importantly by simply being humble, human and easy to work with!
He shares his love of music and his joy in his students' progress, and he creates a community of learners that respect and cheer for each other at regular performances.
I am confident that Jared can help you learn what you want to learn, that you'll end up having fun and learning something you weren't expecting to learn along the way, and that he is humble enough to say if he ever gets stumped by a question and you'll end up learning something new together.
Have fun!"

I was a complete beginer and couldn't read a single note. Al showed great patience form day one when i came in with a broken string. Never once in all of my lessons did he hesitate to repeat, redemonstrate, or write it out. He is your choice if this is what you need in an instructor."

Also easy to work with"

I'm a student of Steve G.'s and am in my 40's. I had previously taken classical piano lessons from the age of 7 until 18, but I wanted to try my hand at guitar. Having come from a long line of teachers in my own family, I am well acquainted with the great (but often under-appreciated) skill it requires to be a quality instructor of any kind. A superb instructor (like Steve G.) should possess the following qualities:
1. Patient: Prodigies or masters of their art often lack the ability to convey their ability on a small scale to their pupils. Steve is an amazing performer and artist, and yet he is humble enough to walk alongside you, particularly when you are establishing the fundamentals of guitar technique. He will find the areas that need work and allow you to see how a small amount of persistence can result in large gains.
2. Encouraging: Steve is always optimistic. You can feel his passion for music in every word he speaks. He has the rare gift of making you see the flashes of your own talent, and he will help you build on those. He will not only help you figure out ways to overcome your obstacles in playing, but he will also deepen your appreciation of the instrument itself. He even went with me to the store to pick out an awesome acoustic guitar!
3. Individualizing: Steve doesn't have a once-size-fits-all method of teaching. He is a very keen and observant instructor who will challenge you based on your progress as well as your natural abilities. He will get to know you as a human being and as a budding artist. He will find ways to allow you to take your own inspirations and use them to drive you forward in your musical exploration.
4. Exemplary: Steve has tremendous integrity, not only as an artist but also as a professional instructor. He is also a tremendous guitarist with a broad repertoire, and watching him play will motivate you to become even better.
I hope this review is helpful to anyone who is considering taking lessons. Sign up with Steve and you won't regret it! Good luck on your journey!"

As with any top 10 list, ranking the best guitar soloists is not an easy feat. Guitar solos are incredibly subjective, and what pleases one fan might make someone else plug their ears. My list is based on years of listening to and loving classic rock, indie music, and pop. If there's anyone I left out or anything you would change, I hope you'll let me know in the comments. 10.
