Cello Performance from Northern Arizona University
Teaching Locations:

It is my foremost belief as a teacher that my students are truly capable of anything they set their mind to. I teach with positive reinforcement and never judgement to create a warm and comfortable environment that fosters and nurtures potential! I see teaching as more than teaching a person to learn the cello, but as an opportunity to accompany students on their journey towards embracing who they are, creating meaningful art, and connecting to the world through music.
No matter the age or prior experience of the student, you can expect a heavy focus on establishing a firm foundation of cello technique. Without this foundation, the student can only progress so much. With the foundation set and solid, the possibilities are endless! I teach tension-free cello playing. There should never be pain or discomfort anywhere in the body which is why I have such a large focus on establishing proper technique.
Ultimately, it takes courage to put effort towards learning an instrument and I ...

The first thing I do when I meet a student is to interview the student and find out why they want to learn how to play the guitar and what are some of their goals. Then I find out what style of music they would like to learn. I have the student come up with ten songs they would like to learn. I take this information and structure future guitar lessons around the essential elements of these songs. I design each lesson to teach the specific skills required to learn those songs. I create an organized binder guitar workbook and having a teaching degree I create all of the lessons to meet each students individual needs that include lessons on theory, technique, chords, rhythm, scales, arpeggios, songs, song form, and exercises etc. I use a color coded method to teach scales, chords and theory that I created that help students not only understand scales but also they are able to see visually where chords come from. I break down each song into easy digestible parts so students can learn a ...

I am probably Angela's oldest pupil (92) and I have seen many teachers, educators and lecturers in my lifetime, but none have equaled Angela for excellence. This young woman teaches the full time allotted to a lesson-a minimum of chit-chat. She is aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each pupil and teaches each with these in mind. She is endlessly patient and encouraging, and her enthusiasm for music is contagious; it lifts the spirits of the pupils. She has a thorough academic background in music and this fund of knowledge is used actively in her teaching-pupils cannot get away with anything. Her corrective measures, however, are not harsh or punitive, but gentle and subtle.
I am very proud of Angela and what she has accomplished, and very pleased and lucky to have found her as my piano teacher."

As a music educator and performer, I’m always interested in learning about new products and tools that can help students succeed. When I discovered the Loog Guitar, a 3-string interchangeable guitar designed with children in mind, I immediately took notice. I was excited to find out more about the Loog because I took guitar lessons when I was 8 years old, and it proved to be easier said than done. The guitar was added to the list of instruments that were uncomfortable for my tiny hands (w …
