Private Acoustic Guitar Teacher

David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playing guitar, he has released 4 CDs and written over 200 original songs. He has opened for major national acts like Journey, Maroon 5, Toby Keith, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Thrice, Story of the Year, The Bouncing Souls, Eric Hutchinson, Virginia Coalition and Graham Colton. In the process, he has performed at such notable venues as FedEx Field, Nationals Park, Jiffy Lube Live/Nissan Pavilion, the 9:30 Club, The Hamilton and Rams Head Live.

As a teacher, David has taught in numerous locations in the Maryland area for the last 23 years. H

is students generally range anywhere from 4-70+ years old and come from a wide range of backgrounds and levels of proficiency, from basic beginners to advanced. Some of his students have also gone on to pursue careers in music, others have just learned as a hobby, and some have been somewhere in between the two. All are welcome!

I had to switch the lesson to in-home roughly 3 hours before the scheduled lesson. David was great and accommodating. He gave me a crash course on scales, which I didn't know anything about, and explained them so that I actually started to understand.

My first lesson with David was excellent! He is very patient and knowledgeable. I now have extremely high expectations for learning to play the guitar. I highly recommend him. He gave me a thorough explanation about how guitars are made made, the parts, we tuned the guitar and I am ready to groove!

Kept missing class without any heads up so I had to just wait around and hope he'll show up, ignored my calls and messages to reschedule, so I had to just get a refund from TakeLessons. As a teacher he is good, but very unprofessional behavior in terms of accountability and respect for students' time.

Andrew is such a great teacher! I'm a beginner guitar player who wanted to learn some of the basics and work on my technique, and Andrew was so patient and really took the time to work with me. Very easy-going and helpful, even though I know I'm not the best player. He clearly knows what he's doing when it comes to anything guitar-related and I cannot wait to set up another lesson. I already feel more confident in my abilities! Thanks Andrew!

Justin is the quintessential professional in every way. His approach is to make you a better student of music not necessarily just learn guitar. He is patient with you and very positive and reinforcing. The passion he has for music is obvious from the first time you meet him. As with any good manager, just by the way he teaches, makes you want to be a better student.

We will play whatever songs the student would like to learn! I use the Hal Leonard guitar method book to give a good foundation to the students and a solid understanding of the fundamentals. I encourage students to pick songs that they hear on the radio or anywhere else that they enjoy and bring them to me for lessons so we can learn them together.

About Matt

I attended West Chester University from 2011-2015 and graduated with my bachleor's in music education. I performed in the marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, jazz ensembles, various trumpet ensembles, and a brass quintet. One of my trumpet ensembles made it to the semifinals in the National Trumpet Competition. I backed up various world famous trumpet artists during the International Trumpet Guild Conference at Valley Forge in 2014 such as Bobby Shew, Randy Brecker, Tine Thing Helseth, Canadian Brass, and many others. I took lessons from Robert Skoniczin and Jean Christophe Dobrzelewski during my time at WCU.

I can teach any style that you are interested in and can take students of all ages. I believe it is important to have a good musical foundation so we will go over music theory as well in lessons. I have extensive experie

nce teaching trumpet, guitar, piano, bass, ukulele, and saxophone. We will play whichever style of music you prefer. Lessons will be fun!

Private Acoustic Guitar Teacher

With beginners, I specialize in making the intro process fun and moving forward.

For intermediate players, I focus on:
- a unique online course only available to my private students that greatly assists in learning theory to make it practical and useful for guitar players
- fingerstlye techniques
- unique techniques with percussion, effects/looping, playing with pencils and fans and things

About Austin

I've been making music since I started piano lessons at 6 years old. I love teaching and have been doing so privately and in classroom settings throughout my career. My wife and are empty nesters of three children but no grandchildren yet... . Musically, I started with classical piano and progressed to jazz and pop music as a teenager. In junior high, playing trumpet in band progressed to playing bass in jazz ensemble. Finally, acoustic guitar satisfied my need for something to play songs with that was more portable than a keyboard. Initially, my desire to be a studio session musician resulted in pursuing a wide variety of musical skills, instruments, and segments of the music world. From arranging and composing for orchestra and rap albums, to audio engineering/consulting and music typesetting, my experience became very di

verse. Loving so many styles of music, I played professionally such diverse things as salsa piano, folk guitar, jazz bass, and funk drumming. I also love teaching and have developed curricula for several schools as well as guest-taught at numerous universities and conferences.

career highlights:
-international touring with multiple artists and bands, 45 countries
-record producer with 100+ projects and developed producer curriculum for audio trade school
-conference speaker and guest university instructor all over the world teaching music and creativity
-skill on multiple instruments and styles as well as extensive experience in the world of audio and teaching music theory

teaching highlights:
I traveled quite a bit as a guest teacher/speaker, so an exhaustive list is not practical. Some highlights include:

-Oral Roberts University - Tulsa (8 years in multiple roles)
-Southeastern University - Florida
-MediaTech Institute - Texas
-LPI Hernhutt - Germany (3 months)
-Created to Worship - England (2 years)
-and of course, numerous conferences, clinics, workshops all over the place

I've been asked numerous times "how many instruments do you play?" Well, I can get around on most anything. However, I don't play anything bowed (like violin or cello) nor the steel guitar. The instruments I teach are those I have the most background and have played professionally with.

Please contact me if you have any questions, I would love to talk with you!

Douglas
"I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for about 3 years now and couldn't be happier. I remember being amazed at how quickly I progressed early on, which i
nstantly got me hooked. He focuses hard on your guitar foundation as well a your music theory foundation, not just on how to play a few songs. Since Jimmy has his own studio, you have the capability to record your own songs as much as you would like. The studio also provides a new way of learning that no where else offers by going through your own recordings step by step to pinpoint problem areas. I look forward to going to Jimmy's every week. He is a funny, kind and easy to talk to guy with a passion for what he does.

"You can say that I'm a rookie when it comes to playing guitar. So, I decided to do something about it. I'm taking 45 minutes sessions with Nick and I have
to say that he is a really talented a teacher as well as he is a musician. While having fun during the lessons, I rake in so many new tricks up my sleeve. I love his individual approach, flexibility, and creativity just to outline a couple. For the short while that I've known Nick, he's been all, a patient teacher, a talented musician, but most of all he's been an inspiration to me. My goal was to learn to read music and learn how to play the instrument more fluently. But now, the whole world of new and fascinating opportunities opened up to me because of his mentoring and support. Thank you Nick! I wish I could take longer sessions with you on a more regular basis."

"Highly recommend! I initially only began with the idea of taking 1 month of lessons and now I'm in my 3rd month! Derek caters the lessons to meet my needs
- I'm a tactile learner, and he approaches teaching guitar to me from that standpoint. I would highly recommend him as a guitar teacher."

"I left a review as many have done at the beginning of my lessons on the site's request. I studied with Edwin for about two years through Skype, and wanted
to evaluate the experience after it was completed. Edwin was a very polite and skilled teacher. He taught me many new techniques and different styles of jazz guitar that stick with me still, and which I use every day in my playing. I recommend him to anyone wanting to learn more about playing jazz guitar."
