Learn to sing better with a vocal coach. A vocal coach helps you work on your unique instrument, your voice.

As any singer, you should know, not only does your voice need to be in tune and to have a good tone but you will also need to be your own voice doctor. You need to take care of your voice (just like any instrument)! One of the first things you can do is to drink plenty of water so your vocal chords don’t dry out. Then you will need to remember to warm your voice up with a few exercises that I can teach you. It’s best to warm up on a daily basis but especially before any performance. Also, learn what key or notes your voice sounds the best. Think of certain songs that you sing of other artist and find out what key they sing them in. Don’t be discouraged if you can not sing all the notes because with vocal exercise you can learn to extend your vocal range!

Vocal Techniques! This is gonna save your life as a singer and songwriter! Warm up and explore your maximum

About Jena

Learn to SING, PLAY, WRITE. PERFORM and RECORD, The Whole Musician Way. Balance your life through Music.

From my songs, I am powerless to power-girl, I became a transformational singer/songwriter, coach, speaker, workshop host and author of the book, Change the World - Write Your Song! I have written songs since my teens and I found a kinship to writing songs that was driven by dynamics, power and the transformation music has to myself, to others and to the world. All I want to be is a transformational singer/songwriter and now teacher. It's my turn to help you write your song. Find your v
oice whether it be singing, playing an instrument, writing or performing. I teach the Whole Musician Way! It's way of life!

I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Santa Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music at University California Santa Barbara. After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into my first love songwriting and started recording. In 2004, I released my CD, Faded Fiction. These were songs that I recorded in 1998, while attending school. Then in 2007, I released a second CD, The Ballad Of Calamity. In 2011, I self -published my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals and beyond for the Aspiring Singer/Songwriter. I have been busy working on book II, writing songs, working for a non-profit After school program called, Girls Rock SB, teaching privately, singing and acting with Santa Barbara Revels, performing with my band The Stone Phoneys - Linda Ronstadt Tribute and recording.

Special note to the Parents of prospective music students:

Many doctors and scientist are also musicians because it is a creative craft stimulating a part of the brain that academics does not. Music will always be around and when you learn music you also learn; math, language, history, reading and science. Whether your child continues in music or not, the benefits of knowing music are documented.

Together with your child I will help them realize their greatness. They can learn so much about themselves just by writing their song. I have a unique perspective on the pre-teen and teen because that is when I began writing songs. If only I knew then what I know now! This is something I can do for your child. For me, songwriting was my escape and my therapy. I survived my troubled teens through music. And now I want to teach your child all I know. Combined with some performance opportunities! Your child will love it! Most of my kids get a kick out of my lessons. I am very patient and yet provide incentives to inspire motivation for the possibilities of great things.

I like to teach the "whole Musician" meaning if a student wants to learn voice and guitar or piano to accompany their voice or to help them write a song or help them complete a song I can teach them. Students will begin by learning songs they like by singing, playing and performing them with my guidance. What ever I know I will pass it on! I love to teach songwriting. I wrote a book and believe that songwriting is very therapeutic and easy to learn. I mostly like to teach a student by ear but can teach them how to read music too. I also love to teach how to perform, record and to find their best singing voice.

I recommend Jenna to all levels of learners!

I knew nothing about playing the guitar before my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable right away and was able to help me learn quickly. She also helped me with my singing at the same time. She let me pick the music I was interested in and gave me tips on how to learn at home too. She is also very nice and patient.
Thanks Jenna!

Christopher C.

Camarillo, CA

It is very important that you have access to a piano for vocal lessons. I can help improve the discipline and talent of any singer right up until foreign languages are involved. I'm a musician, not a linguist! :)

About Christopher

www.pianomancan.com

My name is Christopher, or Chris for short. I am a composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist, and private tutor. I have taught private lessons in classical and contemporary piano performance, vocal performance, guitar performance, music theory, and musicianship to local students for the past 10 years. I currently have 36 weekly students all over Ventura County. I attended CSUN'€™s school of music where I received my Bachelor'€™s of Music in Music Composition. My other experience includes teaching at 2 different music studios (Perry Music Studios and Brookyln's Conservatory of
Music), teaching Confirmation classes to teenagers at St. Jude'€™s Catholic Church, and teaching English to Japanese high school students through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

IMPORTANT NOTE: My availability is very limited right now due to the amount of students I have, however please don't hesitate to message me requesting specific times that are currently unavailable -- I can often shuffle things around to accommodate different scheduling needs.

My philosophy when it comes to doing anything with music is that it should be fun! Whether you're practicing a piece, playing with a band, writing something new, or even learning music theory, music is primarily about enjoying yourself and the others around you.

The best way to ensure that you enjoy yourself is to learn what you want to learn and play what you want to play. In addition to a standard curriculum, I want you to tell me what kind of music you're interested in and what kind of pieces you want to play! Do you love classic rock? Do you love pop? Blues? Jazz? Folk tunes? Opera? Or maybe you're a fan of the classical masters? Whatever the case may be, my number one goal is to make sure you're having fun while you develop your new talents.

I'm comfortable teaching students as young as 7 years of age, although I can teach even younger if they are especially well-behaved.

Laurel S.

Ventura, CA

Improvement of singing pitch and range
Choosing the right songs for your vocal type
Learning to sing in a correct and safe manner
Balancing the voice from bottom register to top
Elimination of cracking, reaching and straining
Building dynamics and breath control

About Laurel

Laurel is a vocal coach and performer with a long history of singing in various bands ranging from cover bands to original rock as well as writing and recording her own music. She is a classically trained actress with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater Arts from California State University, Northridge and has starred in several musicals and plays in Los Angeles as well as Hawaii where she lived most recently before returning to the mainland. She has also worked as a professional actress in film and TV and was a voice over casting director for several years. Currently Laurel is the lead singer in t
he band Emergence which will be making its debut in summer 2017 in Ventura County.

Laurel has been trained through Seth Riggs Speech Level Singing and the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA). These methods help singers obtain optimum results using exercises specific to their vocal type to increase control and strengthen the mix between head and chest voice. Singers are able to sing in any style without straining, cracking or causing damage to their vocal cords. Laurel is passionate about helping her students release their true voices and unleash their maximum singing potential.

*** Lesson Details ***
Our method is derived from the Bel Canto technique of singing which has been historically used by opera singers though it can be applied to any genre of music. Teaching this method helps our students sing with a relaxed and open voice, adequate support and use of the diaphragm for breathing and control, and proper and effective use of vowels while transitioning between registers in the voice. Through vocal exercises customized to the student's individual vocal type and characteristics, the student will learn how to sing with a proper mixed vocal sound which is explained further below.

We focus on assisting a singer through his or her vocal range from lowest notes (chest register) to highest notes (head register), safely, effortlessly, without strain, tension or loss of control. The goal is to sing with a clear solid and connected tone free from breaks or forcing pitches which results in tightness, yelling or voice flipping into an airy-sounding pitch. The student improves their singing using a low and stable larynx which is the key to producing a mixed sound and mastering singing.

Ultimately the secret to reaching your full vocal potential lies in mastering the vocal bridges which assist in the transition between registers. This technique not only allows you to sing in a safe manner but will effectively balance and strengthen your voice. Once you make the commitment to taking consistent lessons, practicing and singing correctly as much as possible, you will become the singer you have always believed you could be!

Katina M.

Thousand Oaks, CA

A voice lesson consists of vocal exercises and warm-ups, followed by repertoire. Students may pursue any style of music with the foundational technique of healthy singing. Overall musicianship is also important, and for students who do not read music, some time will also be devoted to discussion of music theory and fundamentals.

About Katina

Everyone can sing! As an artist-teacher, Katina uses her training (Doctorate in Musical Arts from USC, Bachelor of Music from Rice) and 20+ years of performance experience to lead students in a fulfilling exploration of music. Her teaching style is highly influenced by the Alexander Technique, functional voice training, and bel canto singing. Her technical approach is rooted in physiological efficiency so that students learn to sing in a healthy way, allowing a versatile approach to all singing styles. Katina welcomes students of all levels, but requires a serious commitment. Prospective stude
nts must schedule an in-person interview and audition.
