She has helped me tremendously! We have a good time learning and laughing during my lessons with her. She had also helped me to stop listening to what others think about my voice and focus on believing in myself as I learn and progress. Risks l thanks

Desiree puts the fun in fundamentals!
I decided to take voice lessons for pleasure as a hobby to keep my mind off of the stresses of daily life. I had a lot of confidence issues to get over when I started taking lessons with Desiree; mainly because I didn't want to embarrass myself like those people I make fun of on American Idol. Her non-threatening teaching style has been the perfect fit for me...although she does raise her voice at me when I judge myself too harshly, but I won't count against her ;) My confidence has soared and I feel that I'm a much bolder and more comfortable singer. Iâm enjoying every minute of discovering my voice with Desiree. I've still got some work to do but I'm confident she'll help me reach my goals.

Voices are a Gift
Desiree has helped my sister and I develop our vocal skills and work to our full potential. She has also helped us realize that our voices are a gift and we need to treasure them. Desiree has strengthened our confidence in signing in front of people as well as signing in general. She is more than just a teacher she is a role model and a person we feel we can count on.
I have international experience as an opera singer and a wealth of resources for repertoire, technique, diction, and audition training. Coaching of specific roles available; able to work on diction in Italian, French, German, Spanish, and Russian.
I am a full-time pedagogue/performer with eight years' experience teaching private lessons in voice, piano, and acting to a range of ages and levels of students. Although the majority of my students are young adults, I have worked successfully with children, teenagers, and adult students (twenties to senior citizens) of both genders; I tailor my approach specifically to the goals and interests of each student; no two people learn the same way. I hold a Bachelor's of Music in vocal performance from West Virginia University (summa cum laude, WVU Outstanding Senior, Honors College J. and C. Na
th Outstanding Senior, Rhodes and Marshall Scholarships candidate). I regularly perform as a soloist in opera, oratorio, concerts, and recitals and completed training through the Ezio Pinza Concil for American Singers of Opera in Italy, the American Singers' Opera Project of North Carolina, and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. As a teacher, I completed a year-long vocal pedagogy course with Cynthia Bess which provided me with a thorough understanding of the anatomy and psychology of singing, as well as a systematic approach to the correction of vocal faults. In the spring of 2010, one of my students, a teen-aged boy, was selected to attend Eastman's summer program for high school students. Several of my students have performed leading roles in school, community, and university musical productions. I hold a full voting membership in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, am a Licensed Kindermusik Educator, am employed as Director of Music Ministry for a fairly large church, and was recently awarded the National Pastoral Musician's organ certification. I was also a teaching artist at Propel East Charter School for Greensburg American Opera and directed the Old Economy Singers (a twenty-voice historical choir) for six years.
*** Lesson Details *** I provide professional, knowledgeable, and individualized instruction in a supportive and encouraging environment. During the course of study with me, I expect voice students will improve vocal technique and sound quality, alleviate physical tension which may be interfering with phonation, expand their range, learn new repertoire, increase confidence, and grow as performing artists. My vocal teaching method focuses on correct breathing and resonance; I also incorporate some activities from Barry Green's "Inner Game of Music" technique. Although my teaching is grounded in a scientific approach to the process of phonation, I also believe singing should be a fun experience for the student. We sing to communicate! I believe that a thorough technical foundation is necessary for free and healthy singing in any genre of music. I am willing to work with students in the vocal styles that interest them most; although my professional performance experience is in opera and musical theatre, I have also successfully worked with students whose interests included jazz, pop, rock, folk music, contemporary Christian music, and choral singing. My piano pedagogical method matches each student with the right curriculum-- Alfred, Schaum, or Piano Adventures-- plus supplemental technical exercises such as scales, arpeggios, and Czerny and Hanon exercises. All students are exposed to theory through worksheets, games, and other applied activities. As soon as possible, I introduce "real" repertoire from master composers.
*** Studio Equipment *** Grand piano, electronic piano, music library, photo copier for copies of repertoire, music stands, Sing and See software.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide copies of music and exercises. If I am teaching at a student's home, I expect him/her to provide a keyboard instrument.
*** Specialties *** I believe that a strong technical foundation emphasizing correct breathing and placement will allow voice students to sing in a healthy manner in any style of music. My professional performance credentials are primarily in opera, but I also have musical theatre experience and have successfully worked with students whose interests include opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop, rock, gospel, Irish folk music, and choral singing. In piano lessons, I emphasize technique and musicianship through a balance of exercises, repertoire, and theory activities.

What I DIDN'T Know
Emily is an awesome coach and instructor. Yes I said coach! A coach actually encourages you, and that is what she did for me. Anyway, as for the title, "What I DIDN'T Know", there were things in film auditions that I didn't know that would were actually sabotaging my chances for auditions. Emily worked on these real quick and fixed them up.Long story short, I had an audition yesterday, and using Emily's lessons's the casting director said, "Wow, that was actually really good"
StaceyS1 December 1, 2010
I've spent years developing bad singing habits. Emily has been very patient and has helped me fix many of those bad habits one step at a time. I've made significant progress in a few short months and would recommend her to anyone looking to study voice.

When I teach children I teach them Music theory using colors. The formula I use is called the "ROYBIV" Approach. While it is a new idea to society as I very recently had it copy righted, I have been using it for three years and it really works. "ROYGBIV" has has helped make music theory more applicable and fun.

Jen has been working with my daughter for only 4 months but her growth in that amount of time has been amazing. She absolutely loves Miss Jen! Jen is an outstanding teacher and makes my daughter feel so comfortable and relaxed. Her favorite time of the week is when she can work with Jen. We are so honored and grateful that she is working with our daughter, we couldn't ask for a better teacher. The best around!

"Dr. Collins is an incredible voice teacher and coach. Under his guidance, my total beginner’s voice (not even karaoke) grew so much and so quickly!
has a natural ability to bridge students' personal ambitions with the appropriate balance of technical training, push and honest encouragement.
After just three months of lessons, I recently sang a French chanson in front of an audience for the very first time in his studio class. I had so much fun and completely surprised myself by the speed in which I surfaced a hidden talent and harnessed a power that I had always dreamt of exploring.
Thank you, Dan, I can't wait for next time!"
