Erin W. Portland, OR

About Erin

I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience. I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults. My voice students range in ability from absolute beginner to intermediate with significant previous musical and vocal training. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My beginning and intermediate students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and use a greater range. I also teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as they are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I have taught some beginning adults as well, as a ...

Awesome Teacher!!

I have been learning from Erin for about 6 months, she has shown me how to do things with my voice I never thought I could ever do!! She is really patient, but holds me to a high standard as well. Lots of fun, and easy to be around too. Great experience!

An Exceptional Instructor!!!

Erin is a very knowledgeable instructor in both voice and piano. I have been taking lessons from her in my home for about 3 months now and I have made HUGE strides in my ability to sing on key (which was close to zero before I started lessons with her) and my ability to read music and play the piano which I gave up on when I was 8 years old.

Erin is professional, patient, understanding and very reliable and I would highly recommend her. Her valuable instruction has opened a whole new world for me!

Erin is just wonderful--helpful, supportive, and fun!

I came to Erin after several years away from singing, and she got me right back up to speed quickly and completely--better than ever, in fact!

We've worked on pieces that I've always wanted to work on, but she has also exposed me to all kinds of music that I hadn't known, and each piece has been exciting, challenging, and rewarding to sing.

Erin has always been completely reliable and professional, and an expert communicator. The few times she's ever given me feedback or instructions that I didn't understand immediately, she was able to communicate the idea in another way, and she's always completely open to questions. She's really just completely comfortable to talk to. Even when I struggled in her lessons from time to time, I never once felt frustrated or discouraged, and always came out on top.

Working with Erin, my technique, artistry, and confidence have all soared, and each lesson has been a joy. Erin is as knowledgeable as she is talented, and simply a delightful human being.

I'd give her three thumbs up if I had an extra hand!

Jane is an excellent instructor. She is wonderfully enthusiastic about music and makes her students feel the same way. My daughter started with piano lessons but eventually switched to harmonica... no problem for Jane! In addition to the lessons, Jane recorded my daughter's music - very cool! - so now I have copies of to listen to. She comes up with interesting music that appeals to my daughter and keeps her engaged. She researches different artists to demonstrate different ways the same instrument can be played to give my daughter a broader perspective of what she can do with her instrument. Jane is a terrific teacher. We've been with her for years, from grade school up through high school, and wouldn't have anyone else.

Expanded my range and strengthened my voice.

Don has a lot of experience, worked well around my schedule, and is very professional.
From day one he gave me exercises and study material to take home. Due to his experience he could pinpoint my weak points and give me something to work on for next week. If I couldn't make it on my lesson day Don was very open and helpful with rescheduling.
Don is friendly, punctual, and can I say experienced one more time :) I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to expand there music knowledge.

JACK IS TERRIFIC!

I wish we had found Jack years ago. We hired Jack specifically to help my daughter prepare for an audition. The audition was a success! Jack's approach to teaching is no nonsense and precise, but he has a warm and gentle way about him that motivated my daughter in a way that others haven't. Aside from his teaching ability, I was pleasantly surprised with Jack's sense of urgency and flexibility in responding to special scheduling needs. This is the first time I have been inspired to write an on-line testimony. I hope it helps other students discover Jack's tutoring.

If I looked for a million years I could not have found a better instructor than Jack. He is a peach. I am an older student with Osteoarthritis and I'm hoping that violin will both help avoid Altzheimer's and exercise and stretch the fingers. Jack is sympathetic to my needs and is helping in any way possible. I always look forward to Jack and his sunny personality and expertise. I'm sure that I have reached the epitome of "difficult students", but Jack is always patient and pleasant. He is a true professional in every sense.

Great Teacher with Wonderful Energy

My daughter had taken piano lessons from a teacher she really liked for about 9 months before we moved to the Vancouver area. We did not know anyone here who took piano lessons so found Laima on Craigslist. From the first lesson, we knew she was a special teacher. My daughter likes her even better than her previous teacher and says that Laima has a better way to teach the piano (not the "traditional" method taught in the US). I enjoy Laima's energy -- she is just fun to be around but still is focused on making sure that my daughter advances her skills. We are so happy to have found Laima and are happy to recommend her!

Very professional and knowledgeable. Always have a great time. Makes learning fun. My child enjoys the lessons and then going home to practice. Flexible with arrangements when needed. Will continue to go and learn. Would not want another teacher for my child.

Wonderful Teacher

(Age and gender refer to my sons at the time of the lessons.) Laima taught piano to both of my sons from 2007 to 2012. She was an excellent teacher, helping them to discover a love of playing. From her, they also gained a solid base in music theory. Under her tutelage, both advanced easily (or so it seemed to me the parent) in the annual merit certificate exams. With seven years difference in age, each son had very different needs. Laima had the 'just right' approach for both of them. Gentle, supportive, but also clear with her expectations, she worked with them through ups and downs in their own commitment and effort. She also created wonderful opportunities for them to perform. Both continue to play to this day, with my youngest considering music as a possible career. We were sorry that she moved out of our area in 2012. I recommend her highly!
Brogan W. Portland, OR

About Brogan

Here is a little bio that by brother wrote about me: "Brogan got his performance start playing guitar at church in Oregon for several years in middle school and high school. As he grew more rounded and his musical interest became much more complex, a serious dive into music ensued. Brogan is a 24-year-old guitarist who’s musical accolades include radio appearances, playing with Paul Allen at the Experience Music Project Founder’s Awards in Seattle, and receiving a full tuition scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. But accolades have a weak grasp on the totality of Brogan’s love of music as a lifestyle. His fortes range from metal to jazz to modern classical, and he picks up styles from hearing music across the world due both to ambitious listening ...

If you want to learn to apply technique and music theory knowledge to the Guitar, look no further.

It is rare now days to find local guitar teachers who are willing to provide the necessary tools to help develop an understanding of music theory. My experience as a student with Brogan Woodburn has helped me refine specific techniques that I had trouble with; as well as providing helpful music theory tools to add more color and coherence to my playing as a songwriter. He's also a very mellow guy, open to any kind of music, and a lot of fun to improvise with.

Excellent Teacher

I understand that many people play the guitar and have degrees in music, however not many can teach and play or visaversa. I have taken numerous lessons from Brogan and he has always made everything, whether it be technique, theory or simple chords very understandable. He is a very good person and very humble with a great personality.I have never seen him challenged by a song, even if he has never heard it. He truly knows what he is doing and can teach all level types from beginner to advanced. Overall He is very talented and well worth giving a try.
