Michelle G. North Hollywood, CA

No two students are ever alike. I've learned that using only one method may not benefit all students. Therefore, I use a variety of methods, some of which include Hanon, the Bastien Series, Suzuki technique for Piano and Violin, and countless others depending on what the student wishes to achieve. I have found that my most successful (and satisfied) students are the ones that express to me their specific musical goals, and then I am able to find a combination of methods to help them practice, rehearse, and refine their style of interest.

Lesson Style
Lessons are uniquely tailored to the students' goals, be it to become functional with an instrument or to dominate at an audition. We will go through warm-ups that will place emphasis on technique, explore various methods so that the student may decide which one gets them the best result, and then work through the repertoire not only for proficiency, but also for interpretation, precise yet passionate phrasing, and of course, to ...

Spanish has always been difficult for me, but Michelle has helped me so much! She's the first Spanish teacher I actually look forward to seeing each time we have a lesson because she makes the lessons so much fun! She's very funny and easy to work with. Whenever I need to make a change to a lesson she always does everything she can to make it work. I've finally been able to raise my grade in Spanish after working with her!

At the risk of giving away my best kept secret, Michelle is THE BEST!!!

Not only is she an amazing teacher, she is an incredible talent, and awesome person. Her relaxed and nurturing nature enables you to feel super comfortable and excited to learn. She motivates you to try your best and focuses on your strengths, while building and improving upon your weaknesses.

I've taken singing lessons in the past, and after one class with Michelle, I realized, I hadn't learned anything! If you really want to learn in a positive and motivating environment, take classes with Michelle. Just don't sign up for my time slot...I called dibs and I'm going to be taking classes for a while! Lol. =)
Travis H. Los Angeles, CA

I teach all levels!

About Travis

I grew up in Los Angeles and went on to attend the University of Redlands .While at University, I played in the University Orchestra and a variety of other ensembles. In addition to violin, I also studied jazz guitar, so classical music is definitely not the only musical style I am familiar with. I am lucky enough to study with Jeanne Skrocki, who is currently the Concertmaster of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra and the Assistant Concertmaster of the Pacific Symphony. My musical experience with violin is not confined to classical! I also have experience with other styles, including Irish folk music and bluegrass. While classical is my bread and butter, I can take a more rounded approach in terms of exposure to musical styles if desired. *** Lesson Details *** My approach to ...

The best music teacher!!

My 11-year-old son has been taking violin lessons with Travis for a couple months now and loves it! Travis always has a smile on his face, comes on time, and is professional. My son had zero experience with this instrument before; so it was important for me to find a teacher who is patient, and Travis definitely is. He has a good sense for when his students are ready for a little push or need some extra attention in some spots. I highly recommend him!

best teacher I have ever had

I studied with other teachers in the past. What separates Armen from others is his passion, patience and professionalism when it comes to teaching violin. He makes something as complicated as playing the violin simple and fun. He analyzes the weaknesses and the strengths of the student and tailors a suitable program for the student to excel. In addition, he brings so much culture and flavor to his style of teaching, this from playing in world renowned orchestras and groups such as Yanni and others. He is by far the best teacher I have ever had.

Classical Guitar

When I started taking lessons from Ray I was playing the electric guitar, although I had a classical guitar in my house I did not play it that often. I took my classical guitar once to class and then I started to learn how to play the classical guitar. I went from playing basic peaces of music to playing Minuet in G in a short time. From playing electric guitar about 3 or 4 years to playing classical music in about 1.5 to 2 years. Ray has helped me to increase my knowledge of music.
James T. Van Nuys, CA

I started playing Violin at age five which lead me to study a bachelor of performing arts at WAAPA, Australia.

From there my music has taken me all around the world, playing in Orchestras in Australia, Europe and now America. The US government granted me an extraordinary ability visa in music, recognizing me as one of the best performers from my home country which allows me to teach and perform music in America.

I love passing on my knowledge to new students to help them grow as musicians, nothing is more satisfying to see someone learn how to play an instrument and watch them really enjoy the process.

About James

I started my musical career at the age of 2, on the piano, shortly afterwards moving to the violin, and most recently, the viola. Earning the music scholarship at school for best classical musician, and later on the scholarship for best orchestral instrumentalist at the world renowned music conservatoire WAAPA (West Australia Academy of Performing Arts). Earning my first diploma (A.Mus.A) at age 14, my music has taken me all around the world. I've played such places as the Australian High Commission, Rheingoldhalle in Mannhein, Dvorak hall in Prague, Australian embassy in London, Disneyland in Paris, and the opening the Australian embassy in Berlin, all before the age of 18. I have played in trios, quartets, as a soloist, and many orchestral ensembles playing major concertos, ...

I've always wanted to play the Violin, but finding the time was always an issue for me. Everyone I know who plays an instrument always comments on the hours of practice they have put in. The way James teaches is just incredible! Everything is broken down into easily understandable techniques and it has taken a lot less time that I ever imagined to be able to play the songs I love! After just a few lessons I was even able to play songs that my friends recognise, and everyone's really impressed with my new skills. I'd highly recommend having lessons with James, his patience and understanding are unsurpassed and his approach is just perfect. You'll enjoy every minute!

James has been teaching me piano for some time now. I've gone from a complete beginner to finally being able to play my favorite songs. I really never thought it was possible! He makes the lessons fun but at the same time informative so I always
know what to practice and I'm never left confused!

As an older student, I was stuck on the notion that my ability to play piano was just a dream that more than likely couldn't come to fruition. To my surprise, I was proven wrong quite quickly. Not only was I able learn the proper posture quickly, but James, being ever so patient, led me through a step process that made it clear to me what I needed to do in order play.

Upon recalling my prior instructors in youth, I don't think I remember having such a kind and adept teacher to instruct me. I really do believe that in less capable hands I would not have accomplished nearly what I have so far. Because of James, I am actually learning how to play the violin; something up until him, I thought was never going to happen. I couldn't be more pleased.
Brian B. Sunland, CA

I majored in violin performance and studied with the best Russian violin teachers. I have had decades of professional playing experience on the violin.

About Brian

I studied music; violin performance, at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. I majored on violin and minored on piano. I then spent many years playing and performing professionally in many groups. I played in groups like the Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra and other modern music and classical groups. Since I also like to compose, I picked up many other styles and learned a few other instruments. I taught music for over twenty years, being active in the Music Teacher's Association and serving as string judge for the Certificate of Merit several years running. I teach with the principle that anyone can learn anything that is given in the right gradient and this is what really makes learning music enjoyable; not learning a lot of worthless shortcuts but being able to play well ...

I highly recommend Brian as a violin teacher. Brian has proven to be an excellent instructor, teacher and coach. He professionally and gently pointed out areas where I could make improvements, and showed me how to do it. He has great patience and a very effective way of communicating with me.
He is a violinist and a pianist and is expert at both which really enhances my lesson experience.

Introduction to Violin Music Notes
The violin is often considered by musicians to be one of the most challenging instruments to learn. Its roots trace back many centuries and it was clearly a definitive instrument in shaping classical music all over the world. One of the reasons it is considered a difficult instrument to learn is that it's a fretless string instrument, making violin music notes appear to be inexact, yet fingering must still be done with precision. The reward for learning this sweet-sounding elegant instrument, ho
Beginner Basics: Steps for Buying a Violin
Your first violin purchase might seem rather daunting. If you haven't purchased a string instrument before, you may not be familiar with the different makers or size ranges. A good violin is an investment, which means that a bit of research may be required beforehand. Buying a violin will be a purchase that will bring you joy for many years to come. Knowing what makes for a good-quality student instrument before you walk into a musical instrument store will keep you from being swayed by fancy-l
How to Play the Violin Like Lindsey Stirling
The inimitable Lindsey Stirling has shaken the world’s concept of classical music. From sold-out shows around the globe to her top-ranked YouTube video for "Crystallize," she’s come a long way since being eliminated in the quarter-finals of “America’s Got Talent” in 2010. While Lindsey has experienced a meteoric rise in the music world, her success is rooted in the same principles that have guided countless artists to virtuoso status: training with a classical instructor merged with contemporary
How to Tune Your Violin: Online Violin Tuners & Resources
As most violin teachers and prestigious musicians would agree, maintaining your musical instrument should have as much attention directed toward it as caring for the family pet.  Although your dog or cat doesn’t need regular tuning, your violin certainly does - or your playing skills won’t be popular with family or neighbors! If this is your first experience with playing music seriously, tuning your instrument may not even have occurred to you.  Nor will you notice, necessarily, slight changes
