My 8 year old has been playing a few years but our local instructor moved. He really enjoyed his first lesson with Joe!

Joe is great! I'm a complete novice and he started me out at the very beginning. He's patient and willing to teach all different types of music, as well as recommend songs that are good for beginners. He's also completely understanding when scheduling conflicts mean I have to miss a week or two. I'd recommend him to anyone!

Joe is not only an incredible person and an all-around great guy, but he's also the best drummer I've ever had the pleasure of playing in bands with over the years. And his skills don't stop there - he is a very talented and patient teacher. And he's great with kids too! My daughter just had her first lesson with him and she loved it! Joe's great sense of humor and positive reinforcement really engaged my daughter (who is a hyper-active toddler) and she learned a lot in just her first lesson. I'm looking forward to her becoming a rockstar under Joe's guidance and to many more lessons. Thanks Joe!
I teach music reading ,walking bass lines, classic rock, funk, and how to read chord charts.
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.
*** Lesson Details *** I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompa
ny students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.
*** Travel Equipment *** They should have their own instrument and a music stand.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar. I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles. I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

I developed a desire later in life to learn how to play jazz and blues piano. I was very fortunate to start learning from Mike. He started me out with basic blues and over time I progressed into many of the jazz standards. Because he is also an accomplished guitar player, at all his lessons, he would accompany me while I played the new piece of music I was learning. He also does this if you are learning the guitar. This was very helpful in giving me a more complete musical experience, as I also learned to hear and play with other musicians. He is an extremely patient and upbeat instructor, constantly giving me positive reinforcement. I would get a new tune to practice as I became more proficient with the previous one. Each new tune became progressively more challenging. Having taken lessons from Mike for many years, I also witnessed his teaching and developing of younger kids. He really works with them in a positive way giving them as much time as they need to turn the corner on each tune and progress forward. They seem to enjoy it and he has developed some great musicians. As part of his instruction, he gives all his students an opportunity to participate in a Jazz Band he puts together. In this Jazz Band he leads all the players in working together though a jam session. Other players may include guitarists, brass players and keyboardists, young and older. Frankly I am forever grateful to Mike for helping me create the foundation to play jazz and blues piano both alone and with a group of other musicians.

I had been taking piano lessons for close to 6 years when I started with Mike. I learned more about playing jazz from him in a year than I had in all that time from a number of other teachers. Very easy to get a long with and makes class a lot of fun. Very highly recommend!
I attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and I have a BA in Music. I am a working pro musician, regularly playing all different kinds of gigs with different bands, as well as solo, and regular gigs on TV. I have taught music lessons, and guitar in particular, for 18 years. I play all styles, but my favorites are Rock, R&B, Country, Rockabilly, and Blues (I also enjoy playing jazz, classical, and other styles as well). My main instruments are guitar (electric and acoustic) and voice, but I play keyboards, bass, mandolin, and drums also.
*** Lesson Details *** I focus on a co
mprehensive approach, incorporating each student's natural abilities as well as musical interests - whether you want to learn how to play your favorite songs, learn all the skills to play with a band, or study music theory and advanced songwriting techniques, I can teach you! From playing as a hobby or to entertain friends and family to advanced college-level topics, we can cover whatever your specific goals are. Also, with student interest, I like to focus on music theory, and a deeper understanding of how songs/music work - in other words, rather than just teaching a student a song and being done with it, I like to focus on how and why the music works as it does, to enable students to put their own spin/style on it, play it in different keys, etc. I teach all skill levels, from brand-new beginners to advanced players.
Several of many possible topics of study include:
• Lead and rhythm styles and techniques -- both are essential to learn! • How to play solos and how to improvise • Styles and techniques of your favorite musicians/songwriters • Playing by ear and how to learn songs just by listening to them • Playing to accompany yourself or someone else singing • Developing parts and techniques to play with other musicians • Songwriting, and how to create riffs, hooks, and chord progressions • Reading chord charts • Music reading -- Optional, not at all essential to playing music, but a good skill to have
My teaching style is friendly and good-natured, I believe in positive encouragement and feedback, and don't believe in "guilt-tripping" or any other negativity toward students - playing music should be fun! I also love when students ask questions - I operate under the old saying that "there are no stupid questions!"
*** Studio Equipment *** Amplifier, music stand, computer with internet connection (for playback of songs from the internet or CDs)
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide blank manuscript/chord chart/tab paper. I expect the student to provide their own instrument (along with any related things such as amplifiers, guitar picks, strings, etc.) and to provide study books that we agree upon (if necessary). I am able to supply books if the student reimburses me at the time they receive them.
*** Specialties *** I tailor my teaching style to each student's aptitudes and interests. All music students learn differently, and it's my challenge as a music teacher to figure out what works best for each individual student to inspire them and to keep them excited and motivated about learning an instrument.

Mr. Mike T is very patient. He was very welcoming and made my son feel very comfortable at our first lesson. I appreciate his kindness and understanding in dealing with beginners. Can't wait for the next lesson! Thank you Mr. Mike 😉

Highly recommended: Amazing teacher!
Mike is a patient, supportive and incredibly talented teacher. From music theory to practical application, he's got all the answers... And he makes learning fun!
I took guitar lessons more than ten years ago and found it frustrating and I was terribly uninspired. Recently I took my old guitar out of mothballs and was determined to make some progress on the dang thing. A good friend recommended Mike and I've been taking lessons for nine months with him.
What's great about Mike is that he customizes my lessons. I'm not learning out of a book (which, I could if wanted) but I'm learning the songs that I love and learning the theory behind the chords, too. Then he keeps building on what we just learned. I go home from my hour lessons and play for another two hours because I'm so inspired.
I can't recommend Mike highly enough. He's a gem of a music instructor in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles.
I am comfortable in a variety of styles on the bass and teach students how to not only play fun and important bass parts - but how to embellish them and create original ones as well.
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.
I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick
-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music theory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.
I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.
Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.
My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.
Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.
*** Lesson Details *** Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.
Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.
I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.
And... all this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.
*** Studio Equipment *** Located in my home garage, it is equipped with a small stage, an upright piano, an electric keyboard, a PA system, amplifiers, a drum set, a lap steel guitar, a pedal steel guitar, 2 cellos, multiple guitars, 3 mandolins, a dobro, a 5-string banjo, a 4-string tenor banjo, 2 ukuleles, 2 accordions and 2 electric basses.
*** Specialties *** Styles: Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Metal, Funk, Progressive Rock, Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Various forms of Latin Music, Blues, and a few others.
Instruments: Beginning to Intermediate - Drums, Accordion and Piano.
I believe it is important to have fun when learning a new instrument. Because, why do it if you don't enjoy it? Therefore, I tailor all lessons per student to make sure you get the most out of your lessons. We can work on anything from learning new songs, to different techniques and theory or even performance.
Seeing individuals improve their skill set and confidence through music is why teaching is one of my passions!
My name is Moa and I am a singer, guitarist and bassist. I am a Swedish native who decided to pursue my music career and moved to LA 4 years ago.
Since relocating to Hollywood, I have earned an AA degree in voice and independent artistry from Musicians Institute and travelled the world playing cruise ships, US air force bases, high schools and clubs all over the US, and especially SoCal with several bands. My main focus and "baby" is my band, Dead Heroine, where I am the lead
singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist. We earned a slot at Warped Tour '15 and are currently writing new material for our sophomore EP while playing actively at high schools and clubs in the LA/OC area.
With over 7 years of professional teaching experience I am looking forward to work with you and help you in any way I can on your musical journey, wether it's improving your range, technique, confidence or you-name-it!
I am looking forward to working with you! :) - Moa H

Personable, talented, time efficient, prompt and communicative. I'm so incredibly happy we found Moa and she keeps exceeding expectations.
My 8 yr old daughter looks forward to her lessons and complains that they aren't longer. Also we really love that Moa encourages singing development while engaging the guitar.
The other instructors we tried were good, but they still are nowhere near the teaching prowess and energy of Moa.

Moa takes the time to understand where you want to go as a vocalist. She's knowledgeable, cheerful, patient and understanding. She's a talented, working rock musician in her own right, so she knows first hand what you will be striving toward. You really can't go wrong taking lessons from her.

"I consider myself an intermediate bass player. Learning with Alex has increased my knowledge of the fret board and he knows and plays various styles of mu
sic. Which is what I need to increase my vocabulary. He is patient, laid back, fun and a great teacher. He will take the time to make sure you understand what you are playing, give homework, and positive feedback. The only negative thing is that I can't practice in person and all day with Alex. He by far is the best teacher I have ever had. And your crazy if you don't learn alot with this guy!

My daughter leaves her lessons inspired. Cameron has a comfortable well lit studio in his home. He is an experienced teacher and performer, and has good advice and tricks to make learning easier.
