John C.

Santa Clarita, CA

About John

With a pedigree going back to Beethoven, a bachelor's in music and a certificate in theory, harmony, and ear training from Berklee College of Music online, I have a broad and versatile musical background. My training began when I was in 6th grade and started taking piano lessons. By 9th grade I began competing in national private school fine arts competitions, and aside from my solo performance background I have had extensive experience accompanying, writing, and arranging music.
I also come from a family of school teachers (both my parents, two aunts, and one uncle), and have extensive exper
ience dealing with and teaching children (like tutoring, substitute teaching, coaching, and teaching in a church setting).
Because of all this background, I feel well-prepared to not only bring a strong knowledge-base and skill-set to the lessons I provide, but also to helpfully convey that knowledge-base and skill-set to my students.
My lessons are catered to the student and aim to develop the whole musician, technically and artistically, incorporating a broad musical understanding with the goals of the parent and/or student in mind. Let's make some true musicians!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any travel equipment. The student should provide a piano/keyboard for lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Along with teaching traditional piano technique, I specialize in improvisation, arranging, songwriting, and composition.

John was absolutely the best. Very patient my 9 year old. We steadily saw a progression in our son's piano skills and we are sad that we are going to miss John as we relocate to a new state. I would definitely recommend John as an instructor for any young child looking to learn the piano.

Jacob has been a part of one of the musical projects I deem most important. We have recorded albums, and toured across the country together.

His sense of time is a true gift, and his enthusiasm for drumming is a joy to be around. I learn new ways of organizing rhythm within various meters which I had never conceived on my own.

He is an extremely insightful composer and arranger as well, and in general a brilliant human being.

I strongly recommend Jacob to students at any level.

Jacob has been an awesome teacher for my teenage daughter, Quinn - who started very much from scratch with the drums. He is super patient, and brings an enthusiasm and clear love for music that is contagious and inspiring. He was able to weave in a lot of basic music foundation for her, and helped her progress at a pace that was appropriately challenging without being intimidating or discouraging. He helped her learn the fundamentals, but also let her apply them as patterns to songs and styles that interested her. If he wasn't moving away for school, we would love to continue with him, he's been a wonderful teacher. We'd recommend him in a heartbeat.

Athan is such a patient instructor. With me being an "older" student who doesn't learn as fast as I used to, he is very encouraging and nurturing. He is very talented and overall a great teacher. I hope I will become as good as him as a drummer one day. =)
