Every voice is a unique "living instrument", strongly influenced by so many physical, emotional and psychological factors. In my classes I love to help students exploring their own voice beyond the simple concept of learning a melody and repeating it, showing them how to use their instrument at its full potential of musical expression. I like to teach the technique together with the interpretation, going through every musical style, pop, rock, R&B, soul, country, you name it! I firmly believe that there is something to learn from every genre, and I think that the listening process is an essential step to find our own personal voice. Throughout my career I worked with students of all ages, from 5 to over 60 years old, with different levels of music preparation, from complete amateurs to professional singers.

I will teach you a method of singing technique based on "Emotion Centered Singing" which was passed on to me by my teacher in Australia. This technique helped me immensely in finding my voice and expand my range. I'm thrilled to be able to share my experiences as a performer and teaching artist with you. This technique will truly help you understand music beyond melody and composition but also through text and individual interpretation and story telling.

I will help you choose repertoire for auditions and performances, birthday parties, celebrations. Most importantly is to have fun while learning.

As a musical theater performer, I perform a wide range of genres from pop-rock to legit-musical theater! No matter if you're singing Adele or Rogers and Hammerstein, it's possible to sing all genres in healthy way so that your instrument keeps getting stronger, without losing the joy for the music. With a background in the Alexander Technique and Linklater, I emphasize a healthy approach to singing. Lessons will be catered to the student's individual goals and needs, but will focus on releasing unnecessary tension and building a strong foundation for the voice.

Hello! I'm Carolyn Smith and I love being involved in my students progress. Helping my students find their true voice and helping them build power, versatiity, strength, and range is very exciting With all my singers I teach from an understanding of how the voice works and help my students to understand their voice. With this approach to vocal technique my students are able to sing in all major styles including musical theater, rock, pop, and classical literature. I am a very supportive and patient teacher and encourage my students to explore their voice while helping them maintain healthy vocal habits to avoid straining and abuse. When teaching singing, I especially enjoy diagnosing any problems with the voice and working together to solve them.
