I am a 22 year old senior music media major (emphasis in trombone) at the illustrious Norfolk State University. I study with the tuba player for the Virginia symphony and had a few lessons with one of their trombonists. I have been playing trombone since 2010, started off on trumpet before then. I play for 2 bands currently, Hot Gumbo Brass Band which is a New Orleans second line band and Infinite Flava which is an r&b group. At Norfolk state I have been in the jazz band, jazz combo, marching band (assistant section leader 2018 and head section leader 2019 for the trombone section), and symphonic band. I am well rounded in all facets of music. From classical all the way to the old tailgate trombone days. I have learned a lot from my mentors and think I am more than capable of getting my students on the right track. I prefer to teach beginner and intermediate, one of the hardest things to teach beginners is the pedagogy, how to make music instead of just playing the right notes. I have

Hello! I began studying piano when I was 4 through the Suzuki method and started teaching when I moved to San Francisco to start school. I am dedicated to the Suzuki method and believe in it; in case you're unfamiliar with the Suzuki method, it's a way of approaching music that focuses on fundamentals, developing the ear, and learning through emulation rather than solely on reading and theory. As someone who was taught by a more traditional teacher who was a strict adherent to the Suzuki method timeline, I have found myself to be much more flexible teacher who really wants to structure the lessons around the student to maximize an enjoyable relationship with the piano and music. For adults, of course, we start looking at reading pretty much from the beginning whereas for children, we steer clear of reading for a bit. I have a dog and two cats who are super friendly and who love to sit and listen to the piano lessons (I have had a few students who are scared) - just FYI! Looking ...

I've been teaching acoustic guitar for 7 years (since I was a teen myself!). Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to read and play from basic tabs, and as time goes on we can work on songs you pick yourself. I generally don't teach guitar students to read sheet music unless they ask; this is because in the "real world" of playing musicians, guitarists rarely use actual sheet music except in a classical setting. I specialize in beginner and intermediate acoustic, pop, country and fingerpicking style. Students should have and bring their own guitar. I will work with students ages 6+, but I recommend waiting until close to age 10 for guitar, as it requires some hand size/strength to reach many chord shapes. Ukulele is a fun option for smaller kids 6+ and I teach that too!

About Maya

- I am classically trained in piano and music theory (attended college for both from the age of 15) and have a strong emphasis on music theory and good technique in my lessons, but I also understand the importance of ear training. I practice with and encourage each student in developing relative pi

"My 7 year old daughter started taking piano lessons this year with Antonella. I am amazed that within such a short period of time she has learned so much. She has progressed from 'Mary had a little Lamb' to really beautiful more complex pieces in what seems like no time.
Antonella is a really excellent teacher, very patient and supportive, yet constantly pushing (gently) to make the student better. She is an incredible pianist herself and really encourages Aoife not just to learn and play the notes, but to really use good movement and techniques which make such a difference to the sound of the piece.
Antonella is professional, committed, highly skilled and very passionate about what she does. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as an amazing piano teacher."

"Knowledgeable about many areas of music (teaches many instruments). Very professional. Treats my child with respect and is good about focusing on the fundamentals of good playing so as not to develop bad habits which become harder to correct if not corrected early on. Gives my child suggestions and practice homework to improve techniques and proficiency."

"Lana has proven to be a wonderful teacher over the past couple of months since I have been using her. I have a demanding sales job in Florida that requires me to travel by car all of the time. Basically living out of hotel rooms a couple months out of the year, I have not been able to continue my hobbies so easily especially playing the piano. After having a dinner conversation with a co-worker, he mentioned to me that I take online piano classes. He knew of Lana through a relative that recently had a recital that he attended and was impressed with their progress. Sounded like a great idea. I reached out to Lana, put the keyboard in the trunk of the car, and the rest was history! I was a little hesitant of taking online instruction at first but it really has allowed me to continue my hobbies on the road and greater flexibility when I am home as well. The quality of the video streaming works well and I really enjoy the instruction that Lana has provided for me. She seemed to understand my pace of learning and had me fine tuning some technical issues that I was having. I am extremely satisfied with her services and look forward to our instructional sessions. I would definitely recommend her to anyone interested in taking piano lessons online or in person."
