Classical music is the foundation for everything else!
I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 13. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.
I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!
Please note: Home lessons must be at a location that I can get to easily with public transportation. I do not have a car.
About Emil
After graduating from Hofstra, I moved into Manhattan and continued my piano studies with Elena Wolkonsky at the Juilliard School. I also took a few lessons from Adam Aleksander, concert pianist, in Miami. So all together, I took lessons for 20 years with six different teachers!
I started teaching piano when I was 18 years old and taught all throughout college. After enjoying a successful career in data processing for 22 years, I decided to go back to teaching piano in 2003.

In my lessons, we will cover technique, scales, and repertoire. I do emphasize basic theory to help students better understand the music and learn pieces more quickly. While working on these technicalities, I also try to make lessons fun and engaging so that the music has depth and a natural flow rather than mechanical approach that tends to make music dry and robotic.
About Christina
Along side opera and other genres of singing, I believe basic knowledge in piano is extremely beneficial in improving musicality and an understanding of each piece. Piano greatly improves sight reading and ones ability to learn music quickly and efficiently. It can allow one to develop an understanding of harmony and context within each unique piece of music.
I would love to help and guide those interested in music, specifically classical voice, opera, musical theater, and piano. I would love to share the gre

About Iris T.
CloseHighly motivated piano teacher with a comprehensive background in performance, music education, and music theory. More than 20 years as a soloist and in a variety of ensembles. Many years experience of teaching private piano lesson. Students all get high scores on ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) exam. My goal is to let more and more kids enjoy playing piano, and learn strong skills.
About Iris
I have been professionally playing piano over 20 years as a soloist in a rich western music history background, and also play in ensembles, such as jazz band. I focus on classical music in most of my life. I have held several solo recitals in these years in Conrad Prebys Music Center.
I start teaching piano since I was a college student. I've be teaching over 50 students in the past few years. My students are all from different ages and experience levels, from beginner to advanced. I can teach in bilingual English-Chinese. Students can learn not only playing songs, but also a strong knowledge of music theory, sight reading, and ear training in my lesson.
I am an easy-going person, and I love to communicate and teach kids as a music mentor. Also, for my advanced students, I like to focus on more details such as voice leading, phrase build, and breath. And I will give my students more space to create their own music style.
Enjoy is the most important thing of learning music. Please join me and we will have a wonderful adventure in the music world together.

About Benjamin P.

When working with a student, I strive to develop the lesson around them. I teach at the pace they learn. I accommodate for busy schedules and assign only the necessary amount of homework for each student. I try to tailor my lessons to suit the needs of each individual student.
About Benjamin
Usually, I teach the James Bastien Piano for the Young Beginner to children and Bastien Piano for Adults to teenagers and adults. I have had a handful of students that preferred to learn by ear and I do not mind teaching that way either. I never use a "one size fits all" approach. Instead, I try to structure the lesson and the curriculum around the individual student.

He has introduced me to some music that I thought I would never like, but by the end, I found myself loving Classical music and seeing it in a whole new way.
He has a very structured approach to lessons and practicing. I like his way of telling you exactly what to practice for how long; the exercises he uses make sense and don't feel like a waste of time the way Czerny does.
I highly recommend him. I never thought that I would be composing, playing Jazz and loving Classical music.
