About Carolyn

Coming from a large extended family in Hawaii, I was surrounded by luau music, kachi-kachi dancing, Japanese bon dances, handsome local guys singing and playing their guitars and my aunties strumming their ukes and singing old songs. I reveled in walking alone in Nature or playing piano and singing

Carolyn is a wonderful teacher! Our 9-year-old daughter has been taking ukulele lessons (online) with her for a few weeks now. She came to LOVE her lessons, and has already made a lot of progress. Carolyn is an accomplished musician and singer (beautiful voice!!), yet she has no problem taking a beginner's perspective and explaining things in a clear, simple, kid-friendly way. She is fun and easy-going, and also incredibly patient. Overall, great experience!

My teenage daughter has been taking piano lessons with Carolyn for several months now, and has thoroughly enjoyed her experience. Carolyn is flexible and willing to adapt her teaching style to the way that works best for you. She is also kind, encouraging, and open to teaching my daughter the piano pieces that most interest her.

Dan is really a great teacher.. firstly, he’s personable, friendly and creates rapport with the student, By asking your interests he makes the lessons about YOU by accommodating those interests and the WAY you want to learn.

I’m an adult and have no interest in traditional approaches to learning an instrument; I’ve been there, done that and found it not only terribly uninspiring (twinkle little star anyone?) but In every way overly difficult by trying to mix too many skills together at the same time. Before you even have a relationship with and “feel for” your instrument and have the technical skills to play it even half way decently, you’re trying to understand how long to hold a dotted eighth note! This is the reason a lot of people quit playing before they even get started…

Dan knew exactly what I was talking about, met me there and then proceeded to get me to do more in one lesson than I probably would have done in a week on my own, and in the way I want to learn!! He knows how to meet you where you are, find your self prescribed limits and then push you through them! He’s truly skilled in all the ways a teacher needs to be effective with a student!
Johnny

She helped me locate my vocal range, which was huge, while making it feel so inclusive and safe! The joy of singing has returned to my life through Marye's skilled, sensitive and sweetly cultivated music space.”

"Fawn is original, passionate and a musical genius who makes learning fun

Fawn’s way of teaching is quite original, passionate and always to the point. She can make the most insecure person get out of their own way and become more secure. Working with her, I get a glimpse of genius in action. She really is a musical genius and I have been learning an incredible amount from her. My songs keep getting better under her training and guidance and I finally got a placement in a sitcom from her re-write. I look forward to watching my own abilities continue to grow and become stronger."

"Indigo is a fabulous and diverse teacher! I've been taking lessons with her for about 9 months. Although my lessons are "officially" for songwriting, we divide our time among that, guitar technique, and music theory. I've experienced so much progress and fun in several areas, and I attribute that to Indigo's teaching and guidance. I even wrote and produced my first solo song! Songwriting 101: Using the "Long-Line" Concept

One of the most wonderful and rewarding things about the art of songwriting is that there are many different ways to approach making your own music. Arlington,TX music teacher Ric F. previously shared with us his tips on using rhythm as a guide to writing. Today, Ric would like to add another aspect to your understanding of writing songs, something he calls the "long-line" concept. Unlike visual art where you can see it all at once, music takes “time” to reveal itself. Today I would like …

Songwriting Tips: How to Write Lyrics To Your First Song

Are  you learning to play guitar because you want to be able to write your own songs? Guitar teacher Samuel B. shares some tips to help you write lyrics to your first song... Just as writing a song on guitar can seem like work for only a select few, so can writing the words to one. Once again, this assumption and the truth are completely unrelated. You don't need to be Bob Dylan or Bernie Taupin to do it – you only need to have something to say. I first began writing lyrics as teenag …
