I am passionate about sharing musical knowledge with others and believe that the most important aspect of teaching music is creating an environment that is encouraging, fun, and individualized for each student. I have over 8 years of experience teaching piano, theory, and guitar to students of all ages and musical backgrounds.

Above all, our lessons will be about learning what you want to learn, no matter the genre. Curriculum for our lessons will draw from variety of methods. These include theory, ear training, sight-reading exercises, body mapping, technique, improvisation skills, composition, and songbooks.

Students who are intereste

I graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston with degrees in Performance and Audio Engineering. I have studied with extraordinary musicians and teachers such as Ray Santisi, Jennifer Elowsky-Fox, Doug Johnson, Yakov Gubanov, Tibor Putszai and Suzanna Sifter.

Summer was a well organized instructor, highly skilled at adapting a lesson to the level of the student, which in my case was very low. She was thorough in her instructions, and provided detailed explanations as well as suggestions to increase the ability to grasp and retain the material. The material she crafted to leave behind for practice seems appropriate to build skills and confidence. Overall, an excellent instructor.

Hello there! Do you or your loved ones have an interest in music? So do I! That is why I am here to teach and share my own passion for music. I love working with children and have two boys of my own. I love teaching music and instil passion for learning into every one of my students.

Having grown up in a musical family with my mother a professional violinist, I have been exposed to the joys of music since childhood. I learned how to play Suzuki piano at the age of three, and later percussion and string instruments from when I was six years old. In high school I joined the band playing flute. I loved playing flute and piccolo so much that I decided to take this as my career and went to Interlochen Arts Academy where I excelled in my performance. I later went to Prague Conservatory and Czech Budweiss Conservatory and played with the
Prague Film Orchestra. Even more recently I have been a teacher for the Flutes and Strings classes at Unison World School in Dehradun, India.

I have enjoyed having a very successful studio here in Tampa, and hope to enrich your life with music soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. For students who wish to excel in their school band, a more practical approach with technique specific warm-ups and exercises seems to be the best in general.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes music stands, sheet music, whiteboard, video recording equipment and microphone, and seating for parents/students. No pets. Parking in driveway. Siblings are welcome.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide metronome, and tools for minor instrument repair. Students should provide their own music stands and sheet music.

My son has been taking violin lessons with Hallie for almost one year. He started just after he turned 4. My concern when he started was that he was too young but Hallie has obviously taught kids his age before and knows what she is doing. She is creative in order to keep a four year old interested and engaged. She is also warm and positive. Most importantly, he's really learning how to play and about music in general - it is a wonderful feeling when he makes strides and does something that seemed so out-of-reach before.

Hallie is an extremely good teacher and is very, very kind. Although she misses nothing in terms of mistakes and weak areas, she always focuses on the positive and uses positive reinforcement to get the most out of the student. She makes very efficient use of lesson time and knows how to isolate any issues that come up. My child is a teenager and she connects very well with him. He has some ongoing issues with his form and she is so good about gently reminding him in such a way that he wants to improve and doesn't feel criticized. I'd highly recommend her. She's a very nice person and great teacher. So glad I found her.

Music shapes my life and has made me the person I am today. My experience in training in opera, musical theatre, jazz, and pop has expanded my musical skills and knowledge. Not only have I been trained in performance, but I have also studied music history, music theory, conducting, movement training, ballet, Alexander Technique, acting, yoga, stage craft, improvisation, other languages, diction and the International Phonetic Alphabet, voice science and anatomy, and vocal pedagogy. I have completed my Bachelor of Music in Operatic Vocal Performance from the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University under the tutelage of the legendary Carol Vaness. I have also studied with acclaimed teachers and coaches around the world including Dr. Kari Ragan and Maestro Dean Williamson.

This year has been w
onderfully packed with performance for Seattle Opera. I just closed out a 78 performance run of CINDERELLA IN SPAIN where I sang the role of CINDERELLA and was even on the poster! I also performed the roles for the Seattle Opera preview performances of GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL, VIOLETTA in LA TRAVIATA, KATYA in KATYA KABANOVA, and QUEEN OF THE NIGHT in MAGIC FLUTE. I made my Seattle Opera debut singing ALITSA and RACCOON in their touring production of "OUR EARTH", as well as performing on the mainstage in many productions. My upcoming performances include singing in the Seattle Opera kick off to the season SUMMERFEST in July; and OLYMPIA in LES CONTES D'HOFFMANN with Pacific Northwest Opera. My other roles include ALKANDRE in PENELOPE with Vespertine Opera in Seattle, WA; FRASQUITA in CARMEN with OperaBend in Bend, Oregon and Pacific Northwest Opera; and SUSANNA in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO with the Seattle Opera Guild. I also made my international debut in December 2014 singing GRETEL in HANSEL UND GRETEL with Opera Mariposa in Vancouver, BC. I have also been the featured soloist as "Christine" in Ten Grand's Phantom of the Opera at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA, and many lead roles in both opera and musical theatre: such as Semele (Semele), Marie (La Fille du Regiment), Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Countess Ceprano and Gilda (Rigoletto), Blondchen (Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail), Maria (West Side Story), La Fee (Cendrillon), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Cathy (The Last 5 Years), Rosina (Barber of Seville), and more! I have also been part of jazz ensembles, and won the Battle of the Bands at Indiana University with a rock group! I am proud to have won the Seattle Opera Guild/Opera Plus Young Artist Scholarship Award for the 2015/2016 season, the Encouragement Award in the Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions, First Place in the National Classical Singers Competition, the C.M. Teaching brings me such joy! To share the love of music and to educate the musicians of tomorrow is both gratifying and inspiring. *** Lesson Details ***
My studio provides musical knowledge through private lessons including healthy vocal technique, basic understanding of music theory, and basic piano skills. I encourage a fun and focused environment. Come ready to learn, and let's make music!

A typical lesson will include vocalises that detail proper technique, some ear training work, some music theory training, and will be followed by repertoire. During this time, students will learn how to produce clear and authentic diction (English and other languages), breath management, phrase shaping, smooth transitions between higher and lower pitches, stylistic ornamentation, as well as dramatic involvement of the piece.

Students will learn the importance of the foundations of breath support, and how to create a healthy sound for any genre while keeping the unique qualities of their own voice-- no cookie-cutter singers here! Students will also learn how to read music, practice effectively, perform authentically, and take care of their delicate instrument for a lifetime of singing!

While Skype is a marvelous tool that has revolutionized the world of teaching, nothing can replicate natural acoustics. In-studio lessons are suggested for a clearer and more personable lesson.
**Skype lessons are reserved for long distance students only**

STUDIO ABSENCE and CANCELLATION POLICIES:
Regularly scheduled and attended lessons are the best way to see positive changes in your voice! The smooth running of the Studio Schedule helps make that happen. Therefore, missing lessons is discouraged and make up lessons/cancellations are not given in the Studio unless:
- I have had a performance or rehearsal that conflicts with our lesson time and cannot have the lesson as scheduled. If this occurs, I will inform you of the event as soon as possible and give you the option of a make up lesson or cancelling the lesson.
- Notices of foreseen cancellations (family vacations, religious holidays, school functions, special occasions etc.) are eligible for rescheduling or cancellation if given before the first lesson of the month.
- Of course, life can throw us for a loop! Illness, emergencies, and unforeseen events may possibly be given make ups or cancellations and will be determined at the Studio's discretion. (In the matter of illness: standard procedure is that if the student can attend work/school, they should come to their lesson. A cold can easily be worked around. If the voice is affected (for singing students), Studio time can still be used to work on ear training, music theory, music history, etc.)

All other absences will result in the lesson being marked as "missed". A hard copy of the Studio Policies and further details will be given to the student at the first lesson. Please feel free to ask any questions or clarifications.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons take place in a designated area of my home. The room includes seating for parents to observe lessons as well as a weighted keyboard (88 keys), music stand, desk, and materials. No pets. Lots of street parking is available. Shopping and coffee/food located within walking distance.

Music Theory can be taught within an instrumental lesson (voice and piano) or in a lesson by itself. I LOVE music theory, and if you've never liked it or been able to grasp it before, it's time to change that! Beginners will master fundamentals such as note-reading, keys, time-signature, rhythms, intervals, scales, chords, and harmonic progressions. Intermediate to Advanced students will build on these skills and learn part-writing and score analysis (both tonal and atonal). Private lessons are an excellent compliment to music theory classes taught in schools, especially for any student who needs outside tutoring.

I am a composer with a Master of Music in music theory and composition from New York University.

r/lyricist, pianist, vocalist, and music educator born in Irving, TX and raised in Annapolis, MD. She has a Master of Music in music theory and composition from New York University, a Bachelor of Music in musical theater from the Catholic University of America, a certificate in vocal performance from the Peabody Preparatory, and is an alumnus of the famed BMI Lehmen Engel Musical Theater Workshop. She is also a pianist of twenty-seven years, trained under a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory.

In addition to music, Natalie has also studied child and adolescent development, psychology, and music education. She has been teaching music students of all ages privately and in classrooms since 2006. She personalizes her instruction to fit the learning style of each student, focusing on technique, theory, and repertoire while making sure the student does not lose his or her love of music in the process.

Keith is a an awesome teacher! I learned so much from him in the span of a few weeks. Every lesson is packed full of information and he makes sure you totally get and understand the lesson before moving onto the next chapter. I really appreciate that he corrects me whenever I make mistakes especially when it comes to staying on beat while playing the piano with the metronome. Lessons are also never boring with him. I feel that he truly cares for the musical growth of his students. Although, I'm taking a break from Take Lessons when I enroll again I will choose Keith for Piano/Music Theory.

Throughout my time at Berklee, NEC, and now Juilliard, I have studied with many great teachers and musicians from Wynton Marsalis, Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Tiger Okoshi, John McNeil, and Laurie Frink to Jerry Bergonzi, and Miguel Zenon. The diverse subjects we went over in lessons and classes gives me a unique knowledge of certain styles and musical ideas. I try to be as personal and individual as I can when it comes to teaching students. That was the thing that stood out amongst my favorite teachers.

About David
At 28 years old, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in New York and Boston’s jazz scene. Neves was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he was chosen to be a member of the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute. Through this program, David had the privilege of studying and performing with some of the most accomplished and well-known jazz musicians in the world, including Wayne Shorter, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, and George Garzone. Neves then attended the prestigious New England Conservatory where he received his Master’s of Music in Jazz Performance.

A world-class musician, David’s talents have sent him all over the globe to venues such as the Tokyo Jazz Festival, Torino Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, and the Newport Ja
zz Festival. In 2010, Neves traveled to Sydney, Australia, where he won first prize in the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Solo Competition. Recently, Neves was faculty at the 2016 Torino Jazz Festival where he conducted masterclasses, as well as the advanced ensemble that was featured at the festival, performing “April 14th, 2013” from his debut album, “Progress Report.”

In February 2014, David independently released Progress Report, his first full-length album as a leader and composer. This project debuts intriguing, all-original music, and David is joined by some of the finest young musicians in Boston and New York.

A recent recipient of the prestigious Artist Diploma in Jazz Studies at the Juilliard School under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, Greg Gisbert, and Ben Wolfe; David is currently performing and teaching in the New York, and Boston areas including a weekly Sunday residency in Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Birdland Jazz Club in Midtown Manhattan with the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra with Arturo O'Farrill.

Ms. B. received her second Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance at Manhattan School of Music studying with Dr. Tara O’Connor. She received her Bachelors and first Masters from Lynn University Conservatory of Music and studied with Jeffery Khaner and Renee Siebert. The theory department at Oberlin conservatory is top notch. During my time there I was able to take courses in functional harmony, voice leading, atonal harmony, serial music, emotion in music, the visible in music, and performance and analysis. I emphasize practical theory in my lessons and always make sure the student knows how to apply this information to a musical end. I use approved collegiate level texts in my teaching.

About Lenny

While studying with me we will work on many facets of music including technique, sight reading, critical listening, music theory, improvisation, and how to apply these skills to a piece of music to truly express yourself. My goal is to instill a deep understanding of music to my students while letting their individual sensibilities show.

STYLES: I can teach all styles of American music (i.e Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, R&B etc.) as well as classical and fingerstyle.
I have a degree in classical
guitar and have performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra as well as done concerts in the USA, Italy, and the UK.
I have experience playing in many different bands in many styles including: Rock, Reggae, African, Blues, and Jazz groups.

SUZUKI METHOD: I am trained and certified in the Suzuki Guitar Method and spent 3 years teaching Suzuki in studio with children as young as 5. This involves a significant parent-teacher-student commitment and regularly yields impressive results.

ON TALENT: I agree with Shin-ichi Suzuki that talent is irrelevant and a myth. I believe that the potential of all my students are the same but they come to me with various starting skills levels and all learn at a very different pace. I believe that the myth of “talent” really just means that the individual has had a long exposure to music. This is why I emphasize critical listening in my lessons. If you have a large knowledge of music and sounds in your head it makes it easier to make connections and better assess your ideas.

Lenny is a great instructor. He's both personable and patient, brings extensive theory knowledge as well as technical guitar playing abilities to the table. His rates are reasonable and he's flexible with scheduling. I highly recommend lessons with Lenny, regardless of your level of experience.

Lenny was my daughter's first instructor for guitar, she had two years of piano - she was not as motivated with the piano instructor as with Lenny. He took his time with any questions she had, he was totally patient with her, he really has a understanding of music and is able to explain it in a way with minimal if no confusion. No matter what kind of day he may have had at school he remained absolutely consistent from week to week with how he taught during the lesson. His focus was where it should be, even when other family members needed to take my daughter he was undaunted yet caring. I would highly recommend this young man hands down. I told him personally through emails how thankful and blessed we were with him as a teacher. I have other children, older, and I have had them through various teachers with various instruments and Lenny is definitely a 5-Star.
