I have always had an affinity for the acoustic guitar, and I enjoy helping students learn to fully utilize this amazing instrument. I specialize in teaching fingerstyle and using the acoustic guitar as an accompaniment instrument for singing.
He holds a Masters Degree in Music from McGill University and a Bachelors from The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where he was a recipient of the Charlie Byrd Memorial Scholarship. He has extensive teaching experience in private lessons as well as group classes in guitar, music production and music ensembles. I teach all areas of Guitar. I teach you how to read the music, understand the theory, and to play many different styles as well as genres of music. I also work on playing by ear and transposition as well as how to follow a lead sheet or chord sheet.
She graduated in 1997 and has been teaching professionally, both in schools and privately, since that time. She has taught General Music grades K-8 in the Parochial School System. She has been the Music Director and Worship Leader for several Churches where she has directed Adult Choir, Praise Team, Bell Choir, Chime Tone Choir, Orchestra and Children's Choir. She has accompanied all these ensembles on Piano, Guitar, and Organ.

A major priority of my guitar teaching is to have students making expressive music every time they touch the instrument.
I begin by working on tone production on the open strings of the guitar, so that students are able to produce a full, beautiful tone on the first day. From there, we study left- and right- hand techniques in the context of real pieces of music, giving students the chance to apply the mechanics of guitar playing to the expression of musical ideas. At the same time, I work with students through progressive studies and warm-up exercises that have built-in expressive goals, so that they can learn to rely on their own ears to further refine their playing.
As I believe that a good guitarist is, first and foremost, a strong musician, I fold a number of diverse activities into weekly lessons, developing skills in music theory, ear training, sight reading, composition, and improvisation, all of which reinforce the acquisition of strong technique.
In 2010, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical guitar performance and composition from Stanford University, where I performed solo recitals of Bach, Mozart, Turina, and Henze, collaborated with the Stanford New Ensemble on contemporary chamber pieces, and played lead guitar in the heavy metal band Full Metal Apocalypse.

I am passionate about seeing students grow. I strive to be energetic yet patient when teaching to create a comfortable dynamic in my lessons that encourages excitement about music.
I have been playing guitar for 9 years, and have performed professionally with groups playing styles ranging from jazz, country, rock, blues, funk, and even musical theatre. I am capable of teaching beginners as well as intermediate students.
My lessons encourage a strong knowledge of fundamentals, so that a student can continue to develop years down the road with their acquired understanding of music, but I also am also careful to tailor lesson material according to a student's interests, personality, and natural learning methods.

I believe that learning music should be as fun and inspiring as it can be to play. We all have a vast wellspring of creative energy within us, and the goal of the relationship between the student and the teacher is to help nurture and develop that latent talent. For this reason, my approach to teaching music is highly individualized. I start out with the premise that the student has unique gifts and my job is to help them discover what those are, and develop and refine them in order to make beautiful and deeply satisfying music, through whatever instrument and in whatever style they are drawn towards.
Depending on one's starting level of experience, some basic exercises will be assigned to develop core skills, with increasing levels of technical challenge and complexity. Being so inspired by those who helped guide and teach me I decided that I wanted to teach and pass on the same care and guidance I received. I began teaching private lessons at the age of 16 and had many students from ages 6 to 45. It was there that I developed a passion for working with youth.
After High school I was accepted with scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston MA. At Berklee I was able to study under some of the best musicians in the world and focus my studies on education and performance. It was during my time at Berklee that I had discovered after school music education opportunities in Boston, and went from volunteering to running a summer camp, and eventually becoming the Music Program director working with funding from an amazing group called the Music and Youth initiative. As Music director I taught youth age 8-18 in a variety of settings. I also played a major role in creating literature and teaching guides for the program. One on one instruction, group lessons, recording studio time, ensembles, and seasonal showcases were all ways to teach and guide our students.
