Throughout my professional career I have toured and played with bands such as Soul Fire, 3 Door Down, and others, and have performed for companies such as 4 County Players in Virginia, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, and Carolina Players in NC. Chicago native Sarah Balzer began studying the oboe at age ten. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance at University of Maryland, College Park in 2013 studying with Mark Hill. She received her MM in Oboe performance at DePaul University studying with Eugene Izotov and playing with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. Sarah has performed with the Quad City Symphony and the Elmhurst Symphony among others and has attended summer festivals such as Banff Center, Domaine Forget Academy, and YOA Orchestra of the Americas. A graduate of the YOA Global Leaders program, Sarah has taught and performed in venues across Chile, The Dominican Republic, Honduras, Jamaica, and Mexico. My focus for each student is to insure that he or she learns oboe with strong fundamentals that will serve them well their entire oboe career. I have been studying oboe for over 10 years, many of those years under the instruction of Robert Sorton, former Associate Principal of the Detroit Symphony. I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in music education at Ohio State University. In 2018 I was recognized as a winner of the Ohio State Concerto Competition. In the Summer of 2018 I will be attending my second year in a row at Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina.
